His face...so calm and confident....years of serious study has filled him with truth and facts....very satisfyingly to watch....!
Vicky Devine it is the confidence and security one attains after achieving authentic purpose, add to that the fact that he is well-read and his social skills are superb. This is what a role model should look like for many men.
MagusKali Totally agree!

"It's a MORAL OBLIGATION to do what we find meaningful".
Chills.
PaiN ExoTiC That's only if what you're pursuing is melovence
jbp has already covered totalitarian ideologies. he's talking about individuals, not organisations/ideologies.
*"jbp has already covered totalitarian ideologies. he's talking about individuals, not organisations/ideologies.
"*
Hitler wasn't an individual? Never knew he was an ideology or organization...
*"That's only if what you're pursuing is melovence"*
What is your point? You can't find meaning if your meaning is based on hatred or anger?
would be better to rephrase to something like "It's oneself's moral obligation to his soul to do what he finds meaningful"
what you find meaningful doesnt need to be the correct moral/universal law.
but you still will hate life as long as you won't do what you truly want that gives it any meaning as to any reason to keep going.
if a person has no meaning he usually gets depressed and kills himself if directly or indirectly. most people dont know the truth but still have enough bs meaning in thier lifes to keep on living.
Yes. Tingles. Happens when you hear deep truth.
I live in a Favela in Brazil. And yes, Mr Peterson is totally correct. My life is totally different( way better) by the time I learned about Mr. Peterson and 12 rules for life.
Thank Mr. Peterson, being a victim will never improve people's life. Even people from very poor places.
Good thing!.. I agree.. I really understand what you said, can we talk sometime? Thanks
Glad you're doing way better! 💟
Have a great day ahead of you! 😄
God Bless! Stay strong, stay safe and take care of yourselves! Wishing everyone the best! 😇 💗
One of the most intimidating experiences I've ever had, was actually achieving ambitious goals I set myself. I set them so high I didn't think I could reach them, and when I did, it terrified me.
Success is frightening. It makes you realise just how much power you have, and therefore how much of your own suffering you are responsible for.
For reference, I have fought in Afghanistan. This was less terrifying than success.
Very very true..yet Its so hard to believe. Mostly it is you that stands in your own way.
Care to share what that success was ?
"It is luxury to persue happiness, it is moral obligation to persue what is meaningful." WHOAHHHH
@@KENNETHTXMMA fulfillment and meaning
@@KENNETHTXMMA God Bless!
@@KENNETHTXMMA according to Dr. Jordan Peterson, he says that happiness is fleeting and that there will be times in life where you will not be happy because there are many tribulations in life. But, if you have a profound sense of meaning in your life that will be the thing that sustains you and will keep you going no matter how difficult life can be.
Hope I helped. Wishing you all the best and your family! God Bless! Stay strong, stay safe, and take care of yourself!
Ging Freecss amazing explanation. Do you have a link of any of that? I have a friend I want to send that to.

Damn i just got fired and this is the first thing to make me feel okay.
I got hired after 9 days without a job.
Frank Burnham hey congrats man! Happy for you.
Frank Burnham I‘m so happy for you. Hope your new job is better ! :)
@@FrankBurnham cool! God Bless!
This man changed my life, I’m forever grateful. God bless
This is a rule from his book that still gets misinterpreted a lot and gets strawmanned as "Follow your bliss!" in many UA-cam rebuttals, so I hope this helps to clear that up a bit. I also think that this is one of his most motivating arguments he makes.
Bite-sized Philosophy correct, and what is implied in that message is sacrifice. Something meaningful, by Peterson's estimations, is something that will not just benefit you but everyone else now and especially into the future, hence the sacrifice part. Expediency is all about quick fixes, i e short-term gratification.
@@dragons_red Thanks. I mull over this rule a lot because I (used to) love to make art. The thing is that throughout the years I learned that my art is mostly serving myself and not others (there is plenty of good art out there). It also doesn't generate an income, and it became obvious to me that maintaining my relationship and an income (= responsibilities towards myself, my GF and our shared future) requires significant time and energy, and leaves little room for art. It's still unclear to me whether I should/will be following through on art - that thing that gives me purpose, and, as JBP says it: "creative people who don't create just die" - .. this might be a sacrifice that I need to make, or, on the other hand, I might "die".
@@1pauluzz1 I relate to what you said about art. I also relate to having doubts now and then about pursuing a career in arts, or just dropping it.
I've heard many philosophers and psychologist talk about creative people and their relation with arts, and they all reckon for us this is an existential NEED. We just have that drive, it is in our DNA and we use it as a mean to letting go off stress and develop as individuals. So I don't think it is a good idea to drop it.
Then, pursuing a career in Arts is usually tough and you don't always get to make it. So my advice would be to keep it as a hobby. Try to talk to your family and gf and explain to them this is something important for your emotional stability, and that you need to make some time for it. I'm sure they'll understand.
There's a saying that goes: "Everyone should have 3 hobbies in life: One to keep you fit, One to develop your creativity, One to make you money". Seems a damn good advice to me.
Hope it helps ;)
@@eduardocastillo1869 thanks for the amazing explanation and for clearing some things up.

Give this man money.
There are many people who agree with you: www.patreon.com/jordanbpeterson
The best part is that he actually does a lot of good things with the money and it upsets his critics the more support he gets.
Bite-sized Philosophy What does he do with his money?
I would recommend everyone to do the future authoring Programm, did it last week and it’s life changing
Such strong, powerful and inspiring words.
“Well You should be afraid of taking risks and pursuing something meaningful but you should be more afraid of staying where you are if it’s making you miserable”
This man really change people not just in the west but worldwide wherever anyone can understand English. I really would like to put subtitles on his lectures, debates and interviews so more people can get an access to this good and wise material. I don’t know if it’s allowed by the doctor to do that. Anyone can help ?
Bander Winston I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.
"There is no faith and no courage and no sacrifice in doing what is expedient. There is no careful observation that actions and presuppositions matter, or that the world is made of what matters. To have meaning in your life is better than to have what you want, because you may neither know what you want, nor what you truly need. Meaning is something that comes upon you, of its own accord."
this is exactly what i've been looking for. I've read and read that chapter but wasn't sure what is included in the word Expedient. thank you.
Love myjob.
Yes its exausting. Yes sometimes i feel frustrated. Yes sometimes i dont want to be there because is phisical and emotional exausting.
But yes i love my job. 8 years ago i decided to do something that makes sense for me. Was best wised choice i made.
No i dint take a risk. I was forced to start over. So i did.
Glad i did.
Now i hv another goal. But in the same line of work.
Wow wonderful JP thank you again for good counsel and advice 🇨🇦☀️😊
thanks, i definitely have to pickup that book again.
1:16 that line literally became his one of the most popular quotes

Challenge what you believe about diet. Disprove your own theories. I would advise checking out the nutritionfacts(.org) channel here on youtube. I hope that helps
Thank you Jordan Peterson.
Just quit my job and staring a new one in 4 days, thank u jordan peterson.
I was 10 years in the military, quit and went after an expedient goal of mine, money. In the last two years I earned more money than I could have dreamt of, but, always felt like something missed from me. Watching Mr. Peterson helped me realize that what is meaningful for me was being in the military was being someone that others can rely on me for that is my purpose in life, to lift others. I shall return to my military career and help young joiners be prepared for the life that awaits for them. Most ex or active military people will tell you that they joined not because they had a happy life before or that everything was good for them. Thank you
Our teacher put this to us in the last course day of the year! (Switzerland, Economics)!!

1:16 this man speaks the truth
This man is awesome
It's so weird seeing him in an interview where the interviewer is not trying to trap him
Yes, yes, yes 👍
Thank you for validation of abandoning all that is not my dream. Bottom line, I refused to sell my soul to the harlot of money. Sacrifice? Yes. Scary? Yes. I trusted, and still trust God. F*** strategy. I followed my body and I have never regretted a day. Miracles abound continually when I see God as the Source of all supply.
100 percent right on the money. Take full responsibility for your circumstances and get out of your own way. Engage !!!!
It's a luxury to pursue what makes you happy it's MORAL OBLIGATION to pursue what you find meaningful!...that hit HARD😮
I didn't notice how he was talking about us working our way out of our bad lives last go around.
Shows you how attentativee I am!
Anybody know where I can watch the rest of this interview?

Oh man the father archetype at work...
I cant do it anymore
First I thought he meant by „pursue what is meaningfull“ the equivelent to „what makes you happy“
❤
What is Peterson's definition of meaningful vs happiness?
well it's not like he's written books on the subject ...
Happiness is fleeting and superficial, that's why it is a worthless persuit. You can't be happy all the time, and even if you somehow were you would quickly lose desire for it. We are not wired to be happy all the time. Meaningful is much deeper, it connects you to the past the present in the future, and it's the thing that allows you to bear the pain and suffering that is inevitable in life, as Peterson would roughly put it. It keeps away the bitterness and resentment and makes you feel at with the world fulfilled.
Happiness is heidenistic, meaninful is fulfilling and nurturing.
he means to say if your survival is dependent on meaningful activity or actions which is not making you happy..what’ll you choose to pursue??
"Always check your premises" Ayn Rand.
Why do you do what you do?
Why do you believe what you believe?
nice reminder, thanks

Who's the host of this interview? What's the channel name?
If I only do what I like, I would be at home playing video-games and watching shows.
It's not just me is it? He's getting sexier
Pagan Pilgrim Intelligence is sexy. But more beatiful than just sexy.
Si!!!
Daddy peterson 😩
I left my previous job because I was miserable on the new account they put me on. I'm on a new job and I'm also miserable. I reliazed that no job will help me, but early retirement takes millions of dollars. But now I'm thinking I can save enough that is equiavalent to my salary +30% and I could have a solid runway of a year to just focus on my business idea. Meanwhile, I can still work and the discipline that I build in waking up early while working will also help me when I hit that monetary savings goal and am able to quit my job. The best part of tis is that my wife supports me planning.
Nice Accent!
🇨🇦😆 don’t have an accent do we? I know I speak exactly like him so thank you 😊
WHAT A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS REPORTER AND CATHY NEWMAN
What if your passion happens to be illegal?
Choy Sum find another passion
Pursue it to be legalized, make a movement.
Depends what it is. For instance, if you want to smoke weed to help alleviate physical pain, then that would improve your life and if you work toward legalizing it for medical purposes, then you will be helping others as well. However, if you just like using it for recreational purposes, then while there's nothing wrong with that on a moral level, it really falls into the category of hobby. It's not exactly the kind of significant, meaningful pursuit to which JP is referring.
Que guapo que se ve el doctor Peterson, en este video!
The question isn’t really related to chapter seven...like at all actually.
“Meaning is the place you live when you are guided by love and speaking truth and when nothing you want or could possibly want takes any precedence over precisely that.” -JP
What Does He Mean By Meaningful?
In line with your values.
@@megb4930 Makes sense
What/Why is my moral obligation/responsibility to live meaningful if I am single? What is the point of life?
But what is meaningful and what is expedient? I mean it is easier to identify the expedient. But how can you define the meaningful?
Thank you for posting all these diverse people !
This song I wrote alludes to expediency i.t.o. getting the job done: ua-cam.com/video/DJjGlq28HiU/v-deo.html

God bless "bite sized "
This might be helpful if I actually thought anything was meaningful.
How long before they find something wrong with this guy
If hes right.
You should be afraid of taking risks and pursuing something meaningful, but you should be more afraid of staying where you are if it's making you miserable
And if you're miserable in your job (life) now and you change nothing in five years, you'll be much more miserable & you'll be a lot older..
01:19 Ok that means that anyone can do anything than lol. I can find meaning in murdering people. I can find meaning in playing video games all my life. I can find meaning in practically anything. What defines meaning more than the person themselves?
To find something meaningful, you must first have an ethos, If your ethos is to murder people and play video games, that's a very strange ethos.
My point is that is argument is flawed and can backfire AGAINST what he's preaching.
The point is you are misunderstanding what meaning means
How so? What is "meaning" than?
Nolan, what you are saying doesn't conflict with what i'm saying.
