I like how Peterson manages to distinct himself from his messages.
Thus avoiding creating a cult or gaining merely "Followers" instead of real sorters.

But also he always says that these ideas are not his own. And they are indeed not his own.
Even his interpretations are not necessary original - I think that it's just apparently he is the right man (his eloquence and linguistic skills) at the right time.

i feel/know that i am in the right place and time, when i actually live according to my values.
That moment that someone feels that things are aligned, is when it corresponds with deeper values. Figure out what your values are, try to put it to action and these moments of meaning will become more and more.

"That's Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods. So you're chasing that, and every now and then you get it, and everyone wins. And that's meaning."
Ah, Dr. Peterson is such a Jungian. That is the Jungian interpretation of the story Hymn to Hermes. Apollo and Hermes represent complementary aspects of personality, Apollo the dominant conscious aspects and Hermes (Mercury) the unconscious repressed aspect. Hermes wants acknowledgement from Apollo and causes trouble, and in the end not only gets acknowledged but also forms an beneficial relationship with Apollo. Apollo integrated his shadow, Hermes (Mercury), and both became better together than apart. Thats what Jungians call individuation. That's meaning. And I like Dr. Peterson's spin on it that when you get it, not only do you win, but everyone around you wins.
    Great stuff!

He's not a Jungian, he simply separates the wheat from the chaff. Just so happens Jung has a hell of a lot of wheat. Peterson does criticism Jung when necessary and appropriate. It is the case though, that Peterson (and me) are temperamentally inclined towards Jung's work. It's high in Openness.

Watching this clip now, and realized straight off the bat that Dr Peterson has grown in his ability to relay his ideas and thoughts. Not taking anything away from the message at all. Simply an observation that he now he is more controlled in his delivery is and less gesticulate.

I’ve been watching this series, and it has all resonated to some degree. This one though, while resonating like the rest, was also very sad. “The Zone” is a very lonely place. Not alone, but lonely. There are so few people who care, or even acknowledge that excellent and meaning exist, that striving for it is a very lonely prospect.

Holy shit man! Now that was seriously fucking beautiful those words! Me personally, have always been strongly opposed to the idea that suffering is the most real thing and therefore the ideal precursor to consciousness, though not to say it's completely invalid or useless. But perhaps in order to achieve the highest level of awareness or being, there has to be something more, deeper and more profound than only a deep connection with the body through intense emotions and feeling. Perhaps it's significance, some kind of flow state, a body-mind alignment as Mr. Peterson suggests.

    • @psc93krp
      @psc93krp 6 років тому

I might be talking out of my ass here, but in my personal experience the manifestations of suffering are mainly when I should be doing something that I know is good for me but I don't. Main cause for this is laziness or finding something of less importance to do right then and there. Another manifestation is when I'm working on a project / some uni work I don't like as much. Even though my work is completed, I don't feel any satisfaction, rather disappointment of lost time that I could have invested in something I really wanted to do or believed in. My suggestion is to try and do things that you think are good for you every day even if for 10 minutes and see if within that period you get that feeling of meaning. If so, try doing it for a longer period of time or find something else that gives you that exact feeling and it may inspire you to transcend this to other stuff. Good luck.

Your advise, insight, and instructions in this video seems strangely similar to the Nagual Juan's, in the book "Power of Silence" by Carlos Castaneda. Jaun speaks of a person being able to "shift" their "assemblage point" in order to cause a "heightened awareness" within themselves. As a teacher (Nagual), Juan was able to push, or force, a student's "assemblage point" in order to cause a "heightened awareness".
He explains that during a period of "heightened awareness", a person's perceptions and clarity of mind becomes extraordinary. Unfortunately, the untrained person will be incapable of remembering the knowledge and understandings gained during their experience.
Only with years of self reflection and practice, can a person begin remembering the revelations and knowledge gained during these events. After years of practice, an initiated person will become skilled at shifting their own "assemblage point" to cause a "heightened awareness".
(I dont know, I felt that it was an interesting simi-parallel concept from a extremely different culture / realities.)

Something I've been wondering about: would Hitler describe his desires and vision and meaningful? Could he say his life FEELS meaningful because of it? He FEELS _that_ physiological embodiment of meaning? GPT said it couldn't find Hitler explicitly describing his actions as meaningful. Maybe it was lost the the German translation? Maybe he didn't experience that physiological sense of meaning, if not, that's very interesting, if so, that's very interesting.

This is great and completely agree with his definition and value of meaning. But can't understand how expedience can't be meaningful as well. Under the same terms, can't expedience also put you in the zone? if you are an impulsive person(low self discipline and high excitement seeking) then you will value expedience and doing them can feel meaningful, can it not? Obviously, expedience has to be done in a reasonable manner, otherwise it is easy to see how it can negatively impact your future, but i don't get why meaning can't include expedience. The way the rule is written "pursue what is meaningful not what is expedient" clearly separates them as in what is expedient can't be meaningful. His definition also clearly separates them with notion that meaning is useful for the your present and future while expedience is essentially harming the future. While i do agree with that, can't lets say an hour or so of expedience a day that will also put you in "the zone" be meaninful and not really be so harmful for your future. Why can't meaning include some expedience?

You cannot do more of 'that.' 'that' is living. How in all mystical realization are you permitted to escape living? Your mortality, on your knees for that allah, allah, allah, is your doorway to the perception of Divine, No, experience of the divine. "Things line up." "Right place, right time." Unfortunately there might be a 'chosen,' or an 'aristos.' The Calvinists come to mind, but they disapprove of matters biology. Okay, I'm lost now, but be 'there' I did, Alma Venus. But they both fall into childish 'movie,' 'concert,' , 'basketball,' when Peterson begins with suffering, tragedy, malevolence. I do not wish to oppose the perceptual value of art as aid towards that which is all around us. But your chance toward immortality can only utilize mythos following your 'arrival'. WTF do I know?

"I don't know how [J.K. Rowling] figured that out": careful Jordan, just because she is a woman does not mean she does not have talent !

He didn't say J.K Rowling doesn't have a talent to write, are you kidding? He just curious about how J.K Rowling find out the golden ball representation in the Quidditch Game which is very rare people know that (including ton of other male too). He's not talking about gender at all. Be careful with your comment, people can see your stupidity inside it.
