*"Rule 12 - Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street"*
This one really hit me in the strangest way. I recently lost my best friend, my dog, and I was absolutely heartbroken because of it. One day I was walking aimlessly in the streets, like I many times did with my dog, when a random cat caught my gaze and came towards me. The only thing that I could do was the most obvious one: I petted it. After a few minutes, we both went our way. I don't know how or why that happened, but it truly was like a ray of light piercing through the dark clouds of my mind. It made me realize that, despite death and sadness, life can still go on and offer moments of shining beauty.

*Rule 08 - Tell The Truth* -- I've been doing that for so many years. Not a single lie. I don't go out telling other people what I think of them, that is being rude. I answer SPECIFICALLY what they asked for, not more, not less. If for some reason I don't want to answer the question, instead of lying I have a trick that is super complex to normal people, I say "I really don't wanna answer that, if that's ok for you." and ta-da, we change topics. I'm not saying it's easy not to lie in a world where people expect you to lie, but with therapy and courage, you can. I learned that every time I lie, I'm being ashamed of who I am.

    • @stuarthall3874
      @stuarthall3874 4 роки тому +57

"I learned that every time I lie, I'm being ashamed of who I am." - I like that line. I think valuing to tell the truth has been one of my most beneficial qualities, greater that my intelligence or congeniality. As I've gotten older, I've found it harder to not deceive. I have come across people who will look for ammo against me and use partial truths as basis for lies against me. It is then hard for me not to lie in order to hide such truths. I also fear that I lie to myself more than I realize. That may be the biggest challenge to be truthful. Overcoming that necessitates having others in my life who love me and value truth. So many of us construct stories to uphold our own sense of worth and it might be a lie to think I am not vulnerable to that as well.

I remember reading this book like 25 years ago. Remember him talking about having the power to choose who lived and died in the concentration camp based on how he ladelled the soup (IE, if he scooped from the bottom the person would get more vegetables and meat but if he scooped from the top they would only get broth and there wasn't nearly enough to go around so he made the choice to give the veggies to the people that looked the healthiest. Wow. I can't imagine having to make that choice and then actually doing it.)

That is why you get sad or mad and literary seeking for peace, putting your concern at ease and you trying trying and trying but you often break down and crawl toward distractions like p*rn, s*x, or cigar and any other sorts of addiction which it could even be eating food or not carrying about self and then, at the end of the day you feel impurity, defiled, self-loathing. #5 is a really tough one for me. I have a son with autism, and I work with children, who have behavior disorders. Nearly all of the parents whose children I have worked with struggle with #5, because our children have difficulty conforming to social norms. We have to shift our feelings about what is appropriate and likable about our children when they have profound disabilities. If we do not, we will certainly dislike them. Sadly, those around us, who do not know our families, may not shift their ideals, and when this happens, sometimes our entire family becomes socially outcast.

There's a lot more information about autism now than there was a generation ago, enough for someone on the functional side of the spectrum to understand what's different about them and learn how to understand social cues and modulate their behavior. The world is "neurotypical" and it's unreasonable, not to mention unfair, to expect the majority to redefine the norm so people outside it feel better. People have a duty to be kind to those who are different but if those who are different don't undertake to learn how to interact normally with others, they will always be outsiders and never fully participate in life. Harsh but true.

I remember when I was about 10 years old there is a girl that was bullying me and I want my dad to come in and protect me but he refused and he says go fight your own battles because there's going to be a time when I won't be there for you and that happened at a early age in my life..
I lost my parents when I was under 21 years old..
And I had no siblings I could depend on I grew up very fast I lost property and a house that was willed to me because of a crooked lawyer I became very independent to the point that it's very hard for me to accept any help from anyone especially being an only child.

A thing that I always remind myself - If I want to change or aspire to make a difference, then it starts with me. It's far easier to campaign hate than love and much even normal to just coast through life than go after your goals. Instead of being that person who laughs at someone's failures and keeps asking how someone got the perfect end-result, I'll always be on the other side of the coin who struggles and thrive for the better.

For many years my husband tried to convince me to start listening to Jordan Piterson. I wasn't so impressed in begining. After a lot of talking with people in help center for depression I decided to take a book and read it. After this 2 books I changed everything. I start a new job. Cut bad relationships even with my husband. He wasn't expected that but in book I found answers for some things that I was thinking that I am wrong and silly, so it became clear how much I was under bad influence off some close people and how they manipulated me to believe that my point of view was wrong. Thank you Mr Jordan Piterson for all good explanation in books. They helped me to come back to myself and to respect my self. Wish you all the best.

what is so brilliant about him? He is just a seller, a good one. Nothing he said, especially here in his book isn`t new or brilliant. Pet a cat, let your child ride a skate!? Common, ask a child to tell you about his philosophy and you will here something similar. He is just an advertiser, selling books and talking what you want to hear. Nothing special about him. I am here because someone recommended this book, and I am sceptical, because I know what he sells, but I respect that person who recommended me. Now, I am sure, I am not going to read it. Positive psychology is for women and people who cannot bare the truth, the life, as it comes. And what is that, if you don`t tell the truth, at least don`t lie? There is no middle, like if you don`t say it, it is ok. No, it is not, you have to say something, and it better be the truth. Yes, truth hurts, but if you are strong, you will take it. If you are a pussy, read positive psychology, but it will never help you. I will go back to Andrew Tate, because he is real, this guy isn`t.

Give every ounce of love and presence and positive life force you have into that minute, that moment, because it's only a moment and the moment's gone. But that's how you find joy in sorrow. Spiritually speaking, that’s when you are one with your world, and are nothing less or need anything more.
Those intoxicated by their youth do not appreciate life’s last hour that comes inexorably as they squander time that would have been better used for self discovery.
I have been on that journey of self discovery in the last four decades. It hasn’t been a smooth journey because there were not as much resources back then, but the struggle has been worth it. I have been challenged and have surmounted the obstacles on way to feel today I am worth it.

Dr. Peterson: I actually HAVE met someone whose parents made them too independent. They let the child run free and undisciplined and unsupervised from a young age. In my observations over several years of this child, this resulted in the child becoming very insecure. I suppose it was because the child was thinking, "Well, who's watching out for me? I'm responsible for myself and my own survival." This seemed to be terrifying to the child (and rightfully so) and resulted in the child regressing to thumb-sucking at an "advanced" age among other fears.

#1. Stand up straight with your shoulders back: Slouching often happens on the people who are shy and less confident. It happens to myself and my teenager daughter except I'm now gaining more and more conscious about it and will correct myself whenever I realize I fall back to slouching position, but she still doesn't put any effort into it despite I have reminded her many many times. She was getting irritated when I was trying to remind her again and again when we walk together. Any parents here have some good suggestions on that? I, on the other hand, use her as a reminder to myself not to slouch because it really looks awful. So with her standing by my side, I will always remember to stand up straight. I guess that's a silver lining.

12 rules for life here as a blinklist production of 14 minutes is way better than the book. Quick, no fat or filler, relevant, vital. thanks Blinklist.

My parents have constantly discouraged any form of betterment. They did it not because they didn’t see potential. They didn’t want me to fail at anything. As a rebellious teen. I did everything the opposite.

In to accordance of the life I imagined 3 years ago. I am more in the middle , or as some would say in the journey of what I imagined. Speak what you want and go after it; And don’t stop for anyone or anything! Become unconscious to the feeling of pain and the thought of failure. Life is to short to not go after your dreams.
