If you just look at the Ryu vs Ken screen you’d probably mistake the game for Karate Champ 2.. In hindsight it’s funny there was so much bickering between devs in the 80’s over which fighter ripped off which..
i have beaten SF1 it is not good but also not bad. What is bad is that when doing a button input for a move, that it doesn't respond, but when it does it feels so great and puts a smile into the players face. I remember getting angry at the game not detecting the input, but when it did it was hella strong and always made me smile. After i was in eagle i finally figured it out and it was making me happy. It is quite hard but i still managed to beat the game. I played Hydlide 1 and 2 btw. and freaking loved it.
Hydlide 1's poor reputation is because of its sub-par NES port. Ask anyone in Japan and they'll tell you it was a much bigger deal in the computing scene. Hydlide and Dragon Slayer spawned Zelda.
Capcom are absolute masters at making remakes. I don't understand why they havent rebooted or remade SF1 with modern controls and quality of life features.
Hitting a special move in SF 1 was like a hitting Super Move in todays fighting games. It gave the sense that if one could throw a real life Hadouken at someone, it would almost kill them!
From what I read SF1 was commercially successful in Japan at least which makes sense because they only make sequels to stuff that made money. And yeah it's hard to find a game from 87 that looks as good as that
as a kid i couldnt do any of the special moves consistently in the arcade. i was taught by older kids and could only pull them off once in a while. the pc engine version came out and you see people in the stores doing dragon punch with a gamepad. i got the dos port and a pc arcade stick. i tried so hard to do the special moves i literally cried over failure. my parents had no clue why i was so upset over a video game. sf2 came out and i was a local pro. 😅
@@kyokusagani8869 i am not sure who made the port but pretty sure it had specials. this video shows fireballs and barely rising dragon punches. now that i saw it again i must have pulled them off at some point, but again not consistently. ua-cam.com/video/Ach7ekDFVSo/v-deo.htmlsi=jUllWS5-uB4b4o-_
Why is it seemingly not politically correct to like SF1 when it’s just fine to like the original RE?! Kinda the same situation.. Double standards.. MKII was also leagues of improvement over the first game yet that’s rarely mentioned either
I felt more accomplished pulling off a fireball in this game than beating Street Fighter II in arcade mode.
Now that's something.
Because it would half kill them! And the slow motion when you landed a special added to it.
Glad to see that other people enjoy this classic!
Once you get use to the controls, it’s dumb and fun to play a the same time!
Interesting perspective and very objective review of the game. Keep up the good work Kyo!

awesome video!
im glad street 1 is getting some love
Great video! Glad to see someone not just crap on this game

Wow, someone who actually likes the OG Street Fighter.
Random question: Does Capcom have a profile on that guy who punches the wall in the intro?
the guy punching the wall in the title screen looks like Joe
It might be Charlie
It is rumored to be an early version of Terry Bogard according to Takashi Kishiyama, game directer.
Most say it's Joe. Others say it's Cody or the same guy from the SF2 intro.
The guy in the intro is Joe.

My goodness, you were robbed! The DOS port doesn't have ANY special moves. Capcom had no involvement in Tiertex an US Gold's work.

Great Video....even if im still not a fan of this gmae
It's not that Street Fighter 1 was bad it's just that Street Fighter 2 was a HUGE improvement over 1.
And in comparison, that makes it LOOK like a bad game. That puts everything into perspective with normie gamers!

which of course makes a ton of sense because one would expect the sequel to be a lot better.
Once you figure out the fireball it's an easy game to win. I couldn't do it when it first came out.
What strength!! But don't forget there are many guys like you all over the world!
Unpopular opinion: i actually prefer Ryu with red hair rather than brown hair.
We got to see dark red hair ryu one last time in the Alpha Series before the anime asthetic was loosened. That was my favorite Ryu Design by far.
It's way more fun than every other Street Fighter game, that's for sure
I Like Street Fighter 1 As Well
