      Even if you just start with the recent movies it's good, but the Next Generation, Voyager and Picard are all shows based on or centered around the borg.

      The Borg are a merger of biological life with machines. With mechanical hearts, internal monitors, and Neuralink our species is becoming more like the Borg.

    Actually we can do all the things you mentioned… ie, fly, etc. We just have to use our technology instead of our biology 😉 Indeed we are clever little critters. 🤓 Thanks for bringing us mere mortals the latest and the greatest! You’re AWESOME!!!!

    Dear Madam, I have a wish that you can upload a new video every day. The way you elucidate motivates me a lot to be a biologist, especially a molecular biologist. Pardon my English, I have been trying to improve my language ability. Hope someday I can present and talk then understand everything in the scientific articles as you do.
    P/s: I have a question, could you please do me a favor, Madam? My capability of reading biological articles is quite slow :( because of my bad English, then it usually takes me at least a whole week to understand a few parts of the articles. Everyone says that they read in this order: abstract first then the conclusion and results, introduction, and finally the material. I try but until now I realize I cannot find the right way to reading an article. My appeal to you is "Madam, could you please make some tutorial videos to instruct newbies like me how to read scientific articles and reading some articles about biology (genetics, immunology, cellular molecular biology, etc...) for example then present why you should read first, how you find, connect and improve the ideas in articles, Madam?
    I want to send you a big big "thank you" to you, Madam. Hope you and your family are still safe and well in this pandemic. I truly apologize to you for my bad English and my inability to express my ideas. Take great care, Madam
    Much love from Vietnam!

      Like any other thing, the more you do of it, the better you will be at it. You may need to build solid background (eg, through textbooks) first before you can read and understand scientific papers. The starts is always hard and slow but as the time goes, it becomes easier. Browse prestigious journals such as Cell, Science, Nature, NEJM, etc., as their editorial teams do a great job presenting research and the research itself is high quality. Lastly, you can have a Twitter account and interact with scientists and see what they're up to.
      For your English, it's also the same. Practice makes perfect! Watch UA-cam (YT) videos of people speaking, so you can improve your listening. Speak with your friends family, etc, to know how to speak. Read books and stories specific for improving English language. Write as much as you can, eg, through YT comments, etc, as you did here.
      Good luck!

    Your description stated that the borg assimilate biology. Not entirely correct. They assimilate whole species, biology, technology, everything. They enhance biology through cybernetic augmentation.

    Methane as a greenhouse gas is a non-issue. First of all, there is a high overlap of the absorption spectrum of methane with that of water vapor. And there is a lot more water vapor in the atmosphere. Second, free methane in the atmosphere gets broken down within a few years under the influence of oxygen/ozone and solar radiation. That's why methane in the atmosphere is still low despite tens of millions of years of nature continuously putting methane into the atmosphere.

    Interesting.
    But why is this a breakthrough? I mean, why are Borgs more promising than the genome I'd the methano-archea which contains the methane metabolic pathway itself?
    Like, it sounds like regular plasmids which also contain useful genes in bacteria, just longer?

  • @peterz53
    @peterz53 3 роки тому

    mmmm....Independent of direct human intevention into these genomes it seems that rising levels of methane might create a feedback which accelrates the evolution of these organsims, or to expand their numbers, so as to increase oxidation of methane. Results being a slight inhibition of atmospheric methane. But pure speculation. Seems more plausiblbe, given climate modeling, that there will be a period later this century when the rate of methance release could exceed the ability of any intervention to control. More importantly, a reminder of how much we, collectively, do not understand about the natural world.

    Well, yes, methane is more potent GH gas than CO2, on per mole basis, however, methane has very short half life compared to CO2 (I would say days vs 20 years). Not interested.
