Wow when I saw you run the 68 I fell in love with it I was really impressed even more the lights work as well cause I don't have DCC but I bought the Achilles cause I couldn't get the destroyer Thank you Ian king
Hi Peter excellent loco and a nice sounding sound file. I've fitted the Olivia's sound chips to both my 68s and they're very similar, although the function numbers are slightly different. The one main difference as I can see is the cab light function, the Olivia's chip allows the front and rear cab lights to be turned on and off similar to the hattons 66. It's also got the same rear light mod. Like yourself straight out of the box and it can run absolutely great. I've been asked to do a video on the Olivia's sound chip by another UA-cam channel so I'll do it on my scotrail 68. Excellent update Peter atb Andy
Hi Andy, yes one of the services that Olivia's do, I got a class 33 from them and got them to do all the extra work on that but all comes at a cost. One day might get round to doing the cab lights as they all can be done if you know what to wire and to where. Will look out for your video as I'm sure I will add another 68 one day and it's good to compare things. Take care Peter
Hi Peter, new to your videos; I was looking for info on Hatton 66 problems and found your video(s). I have a Cemex 66 from Hattons and I have to say I had one axle box fall off but did not notice any wobble when I ran it - but based on your videos I will get it back out again to re-test and see if there are problems. I have another 66 that I haven't yet tested since this in the UK and I am here stuck in France (Covid and all that...) so there will be a testing phase once I get it this summer, hopefully. The Dapol 68 - brilliant machine. I have four - two DRS for freight and two bought in anticipation of the Accurascale MK5's coming out soon. I have to say I did have one problem with a Transpennine version in that the interior lights did not work. But on removing the cab to fit a driver I noticed some issues with the wiring - got out the soldering iron and rectified the problem and all is well. I got the sound versions directly from Dapol and I am as pleased as punch. This have to be one of the best class of engine I have ever purchased. Just one interest on the TTS class 66 sound chip used with Railmaster; one can program the sound elements together such that startup has all of the sequencing first and then kicking in of the engine (and cab door if you wish) so you can obtain the same effect as with a more expensive sound chips but with a simple bit of programming. Another element about the Dapol DRS version - I was really interested in the Compass livery and for the cost of a further £15 Dapol were selling them individually (a cockup on a previous model)I was able to buy the compass body and a simple change of bodies give me what I wanted - so if anybody out there wants a Class 68 DRS original livery body then I have 2 going cheap!!!
Brilliant locomotive Peter, I have just had the Class 68 Achilles delivered. I have a sound chip with Logomannbiffo sounds I will be installing...Simon
Excellent video Peter! 68’s have got to be one of my most favourite classes of locos! Best modern Diesel engine sound. TPE is my favourite livery just looks stunning and can’t wait for 68023 and 68032 to arrive at my layout 🙂
super model Peter!..i have Brutus and yes it was perfect straight from the box..top quality loco and love the livery..see the real thing quite a bit up here and even that looks great lol....take care, 😊👍 cheers dave
Excellent video Peter, really enjoyed it as always and an impressive 68. I thought my eyesight had gone wrong at first as I was expecting another 66 lol! Susannah
I purchased the 68 Oxford flyer with the factory fitted sound. Well pleased with it. Works perfect, unlike you I like seeing the cab light on even though it's not how it would run in real life, I just need to add a driver. I did change the coupling to a hunt elite one 😁 Well impressed with Dapol.
Hi Roy, your world your rules :) Not to hard to fit a driver but he wont have legs :) just gently prise apart the body so you can release the clips thats holding the cab in place, need to lift it out over the contact pegs thats in the roof of the body shell but its not to bad to do All the best Peter
Hi Peter, looks a great loco, I'm waiting for mine to arrive from Hatton's, and will get the Road & Rails sound chip and speaker when I can, (I've spent far too much on my layout last few months!) Cheers Reggie
Hi Peter, Watched the video on the 68 starts and to me they all seemed a bit different but the 1 st one was a good'un so would you do a video on your two 68's showing the different sound files on them? Keep well and safe and not as yet been contacted for my jab. Cheers Robert.
That looks a great model, I'm gonna have to get a couple of those, I've just got to find a retailer with stock. I take it that fitting the sound gubbins was very straightforward? Stay safe Peter and thanks for posting.
I've got 6 DRS Class 68's with 2 TPE's (Achilles & Destroyer) arriving this week and yes I absolutely love these models...they're not perfect but great job from Dapol. Isn't it refreshing to just run it out of the box compared to the Hattons 66's.

Hi Robert, have to honest, I have never seen the real loco but now have two sounds for it with my DRS and TPE, the first DRS locos sound like its a steam engine when they pull away and I don't get that as I only have youtube videos to go on and I can't hear that.
