      @@alexkidd4979 Just look up Eddie's gear and what type of gear sounds like it if you don't have the budget for all of his stuff. The pickups in his guitar, the pedals he uses, the amp and cab. Probably like 45-60 minutes of research and you'll be able to find it. Or just at look Andertons "Sounds like..." series! I'm sure they've done a Van Halen video before. Hope this helps.

      No different really from identifying a brand of amp from it's tonal characteristics, like how people recognise the Marshall and Les Paul sound.
      I think pickup makes have certain characteristics across the entire range regardless of style. If you have enough experience with a certain make, you'll recognise it when you hear it.

    As long as Rob was listening to the guitar, rather than basing his opinion on Bea's playing, he was spot on. It's funny that he initially missed on the Les Paul, but that was because he heard the change in playing style and assumed it meant that he was playing hollowbody. This is crazy to me. The one with the table leg for a neck makes you feel muscular and simple.Do you drive? It works with cars. In a Merc I'm all 'get out of your way? I don't think so, peasant'.If I'm in a Porsche I'm 'GET OUT OF MY WAY, LOSER' (and playing Wagner or The Cult way too loud with the windows open).Before I got the Merc I had a FIAT and I actually waved my arms around and shouted to people on the street 'Eh, pretty lady' style.

You do get that neat, creamy, singing midrange when you add a decent amount of gain. You can get a good Gary Moore tone with them.

    Why no 335? Why no 175 or 330 for hollow bodies? These are the guitars people think of when you say “semi hollow” or “hollowbody electric”. I mean feel free to throw in whatever others too but these are the guitars that people have been playing for years and years on records so it is a shame to leave them out.

    Love these blindfolded vids with Bea playing and rob and lee listening. More informative than rob and lee playing blindfolded bc it’s (almost) exclusively about the sound and not build quality, neck finish, preconceptions, etc. Keep these up 👍👍👍

    So no real hollowbodies, and certainly no big body hollowbodies? Should redo it with something like an es175 vs Es335 vs LP

    Technilcaly, arent modern chambered Les Paul semi hollow guitars?

    • @Jason-wk8oh
      @Jason-wk8oh 5 років тому +1

      Weight relieved or solid depending on the year, but not chambered. They only chambered around 2007-2008 (except for special models) and then went back to either solid or 9-hole weight relieved depending on the year.

    More of these guesses were based on the type of pickups in the guitars than whether they sounded like a hollow body. "They wouldn't put those pickups in a hollow body." "The only P90/Humbucker combos we have are Duesebergs."

    For someone who's wracked with analysis paralysis over the next guitar he's (i.e., me) buying, with body style being a big factor, this was incredibly insightful. Brilliand idea and a lot of fun to watch (especially Rabea's faces when the guesses were spot on). Cheers!

      Very similar to the ES-339; smaller bodied semi hollow that sound kind of "woody" like a semi with a bit of solid body presence dialed in. If I didn't already have the 339, I'd be all over one of those Gretsch Streamliners.

    • @seb5542
      @seb5542 4 роки тому +1

      @@gdsmith4246 yeah I'd be all over a 339 if all the ones I've seen weren't really expensive. And if I didn't really like what grestch has to offer at a good price point.
