- Trying out the Children of Bodom Alexi Laiho rig, His Ripped LTD guitar, the Marshall JVM and ALSO the integrated preamp booster.
After listening back to the results, I wasn't that happy with it. The sound in the room was way better. Just something to remember. Not everything sounds as good mic'd up. Blaim it on my production skills.

Can't believe it's been 2 years since his passing.. rest easy Alexi
Nearly 18 years for Dime
@@TheGazza83 next week 21 years for Chuck Schuldiner
edit: misspelled his last name..
I swear 2020-2022 passed by like 1 year. EVH also passed in 2020 :(
@@FlunaOwO i always remember his birthday and his death date, and i cannot believe that we still have a Chuck Schuldiner superfan 🖤🤘🏽
@@amiraliheydari4887 Chuck and Alexi are 2 of my biggest influences when it comes to screaming and guitar
Been sleeping on this one, it was time! hope you enjoy the video! Also Happy Birthday Finland!
Would love to see a cover of “hold your tongue” great song
I dig the video. I’m really impressed with that Marshall
Hey ola would we be able to get a video showing the process of installing the preamp.
Thanks
Thanks Ola! Sounds really cool!
Nothing better than a Ola video on Finnish independence day about a Finnish guitar legend! Timing on on point!
Hyää syntymäpäivää! and Rest in Power Aleksi
Happy independence in afterwards :D From a Swede. We love our finnish neighbours. Even tho we rip at eachother sometimes.
Alexi was such a beast. That early 2000s Era had so many killer players, but Alexi was a standout talent.
RIP Alexi, your playing lives on.
1998-2004 Alexi was on another level! He still was until his sadly passing but those 1st 4 albums were epic.
Ola: "That's too much gain." There's a first time for everything.
JVMs just sound so visceral, man... Definitely the best high-gain Marshall ever.
Been using a JVM410 since they pretty much come out, it does everything I could want it to and more.
@@69mosshead Same.
Hard agree! The JVM410 is glorious and acts like a Swiss Army knife of tone to boot.
One of best high gain amps, ever. Had mine since 2012 & no need for another head.
Don't sleep on the 205H, either! I want to buried with mine. Surprisingly great clean channel, too.
Holy shit you nailed that intro solo to Needled! Good job Ola! 👏
Yeah I had my app closed and thought that was the actual track!!! Killed it.
Yeah man! Pretty cool! I thought it's the actual track!
i missed it, i was studying while watching the vid and didnt notice where he played needled solo?
man it has the tone of alexi on his fingers, its crazy
@@gabbavelli1487 no the intro! There's a very short solo in the intro as well, that's what was pointed out!
Great timing for this video Ola, one of the Finnish guitar heroes for Finland's independence day 😄
Wildchild will live forever in our hearts!! He fucking rocked and was a super nice guy too. I got my boys (10 and 12) listening to Bodom now and they are loving it.
Good man 🤘
Father Of The Year Award goes to this man🏆
Probably my largest guitar influence of the modern generation. Jimi made me pick up a guitar when I was 8, Alexi pushed me to get great.
For me, kirk hammett made me pick it up.. Alexi kept me playing
That Needled 24/7 cover at the beginning was literally perfect
God bless his soul my guitar hero ,, Rest in power Alexi ‘wildchild’ Laiho
The band that got me into metal 13-14 years ago, so glad I got to see them live before Alexi passed. R.I.P.
Alexi was an absolute monster, so many catchy riffs and melodic solos. Sick gear review!
Hello, at 5:45 was that freestyle or some riff of a song? Thanks!
@@DistarBute Sixpounder by COB
Love how ola went from never hearing the a few years ago to loving them and honoring alexi laiho. He's the living dead beat. He'll never die
Sounds like a bandwagonner
Great Video, Ola, and thanks for keeping the Legacy alive! Nice to hear you appreciating the Bodom Tracks. To me Alexi and COB is probably what Dime and Pantera means to you. Well prepared and performed!
This gear video is pure gold for many of us that chased his tone! A huge influence to an entire generation of metal musicians is an understatement. Forever in our hearts, the original Wild Child!
Sick sound. Alexi was a minimalist with his gear. He let his skills speak for itself.
RIP Alexi. I wish I got to see him live before he passed. He was always one of my favorites since middle school but I was never big on going to concerts until after the pandemic ended.
One of the coolest videos from Ola... badass sound, legendary musician, excellent amp, and kickass riffs in one video.
That high gain, spongey Marshall tone is just the best 🔥
Absolute chills! Thank you so much for this video Ola I’ll always remember getting my mind blown by this exact tone shaking the whole theatre I was in when Alexi’s sound tech walked his guitar out on stage just prior to their set starting to test chug open C for 10 secs. I never thought I’d quite hear it the same again.
Great tone, hellacious guitar.. Alexi would be stoked! It’s a shame we lost him so soon, would have been so cool to see him on your show man. I also didn’t listen to bodom much growing up, but have recently developed a huge amount of respect and appreciation for his music in recent years. Got to see them live back in 2008 on gigantour at merryweather post pavilion with JFAC, in flames, and megadeth.. extremely grateful for that experience
absolutely love when Ola makes CoB/Alexi Laiho videos! Has been my favorite band since middle school and a big part of my life growing up.Thank you sir! Btw if ever in Finland they just opened a Children Of Bodom bar in Esbo/Espoo
One of my favorite guitarist.. his playing, songwriting, stage presence and authenticity was so inspirational!
Great video, and awesome to hear Ola is checking out and enjoying more CoB tracks!!🤟🔥
I actually have one of Alexi's JVM's. When he ordered those, he ordered one extra for his bedroom amp which is was in reality for me. I was young mofo back then and Allu supported me heavily. I also have one Roope's ESP prototype random star and one of his old jackson RR custom.
Priceless guitartifacts
When you were talking about od1 and od2 being the same, you might have been thinking about the Joe satriani signature jvm. That was something he requested for his model.
Glad you came around to Children of Bodom. Amazing band. It'd be great to see you learning Alexi's solo's from the first two album.
Awesome video Ola! Finally the long waited episode of Guitar Gear, loving it! 🤘🤘
Alexi was my intro into metal music
You really nailed it on this video. Thank you Ola! I'm getting goosebumps when hearing that exact tone. Alexi was the guy who made me want to pick up the guitar.
You really nailed Alexi's tone!
Damn that is sooooo chunky.
Your play style and the tone in the intro made me remember of the final solo of Hatebreeder.
I'm still get goose bumps when I listen to it.
That's a great tribute to a great guitarist gone too soon!
Well done Ola.
Alexi's sound is so fantastic and it is bone simple.
@@BassRacerxBy hitting the first gain stage with a 18 dB boost just blows the rest of the signal chain.
The simpler, the better!
The Man and the band that pulled me into metal music.Always will be my hero/heroes, always blasting CoB everyday when im going to work🤘🏻Thank you Ola for this amazing content!
Good call on getting the Alexi MM-04 booster installed, the midboost is essential for the Alexi sound. Don't be afraid to try different settings with the dipswitches. If I recall correctly, one of his techs mentioned online that he changed the settings around over the years to match different pickups and the 2+4 settings listed in the manual are old.
So happy to see Ola doing a video on one of my favorite bands and guitarists. The playing was on point
I always loved that tone. Great job Ola!
Glad to hear you've got more into the CoB. There is always something you can bring with you from Alexi's playing. Rock on 😎🤘
Absolutely love the cinematography on this video
I'll never forget the day we lost him, as it fell on my birthday. Wish he was still with us. RIP, Wildchild🤘
The description says you weren't happy with it, but I think you NAILED the tone. Great stuff.
He did nail it. I would have been curious to hear a side by side of perhaps a stock LTD Arrow or something. He really nailed the COb tone, I wonder how much was in that booster he had installed?
Cool show.
thank you so much for this video Ola. Alexi was my personal hero along with chuck schuldiner. Ever since his passing its never been the same, just like with chuck and dimebag. RIP alexi and all the legends that left us
I LOVE THIS! Great video!
I remember a few years ago during your live chats heavily recommending COB and you kept saying how they were too “happy” of a sound for you, glad you came around!!! Alexi was a legend of a shredder…
ty! RIP Alexi!! great vid as always Ola!
Killer playing, Ola!!! You nailed Alexi's tone and style! Thanks for doing this video! :-)
Aw man, _yeess_ I waited for that one! Alexi is one of those people that I discovered _way_ too late, but who ever since had an enormous influence on my guitar journey and everything surrounding it; Petrucci made me pick up the electric, but Alexi made me really _play_ ...
Rest in fucking power Wildchild, may your legacy live on for a long, long time!
I’m a 54 year thrash semi crappy guitarist who like yourself didn’t listen to them early on, but I’m really glad that I did hear them before I moved on because. The guy was good and had a good time doing what he loved. I happy I can hear it all now. Allways learning new riff etc and boy, was he full of them ! thrash on all. It’s worth the listen. Love ur stuff as well mr.ola. Keep it up. Thanks for all ur work my brother. Peace
Finally! been waiting for this! Thnx Ola! Great video!
Thank you for making this was waiting for this vid since you got the signature guitar
Someone has been practicing their Bodom! Absolutely killer stuff.
RIP Alexi.
That guitar gear sounds awesome Ola Children of Bosom Rock 🤘 RIP Alexi Laiho
Awesome video, dude! Children Of Bodom are my favorite band, fullstop, and Alexi was and still is one of my biggest guitar heroes.
Cool stuff as always, RIP Allu 🖤 Great choice of day for posting this, so happy Independece Day to Finland 🥳🥂🇫🇮
Thank you, Ola. For honoring a legend. Rest in peace, Wildchild
This is my favourite amp of all times..i love it and u made me really happy to hear it again
Great demo Ola, that sounded awesome man 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Holy shit Ola, the tones and playing are on point here for real !
long live Alexi. great stuff Ola
Awesome video, Ola! It would be sick to see you do one on his preamp setup that he used most of his career too (Lee Jackson GP1000), or even the early guitar setup (Jackson with J50BC pickup and JE1000 gainboost) and maybe see how they compare with this.
Love your content man, happy finnish independence day to you.
I was aware of COB and Alexi as a teen, I really liked his work in the Finnish super group The Local Band and listened to the album “Hexed”… but that was basically it. Until he passed it caught me by surprise like I’m sure everyone else did… dove into their earlier works, it was right up my alley, especially if I was younger lol… it’s a damn shame I didn’t get into them earlier… R.I.P. Alexi
Absolutely killed that intro solo!
Always have a beer for Alexi when you are out... Shred in heaven forever brother! so glad to see them live in Oslo
A fine gift for Finland's birthday, thank you Ola!
I super love this amps gain structure!!!
Awesome sick guitar and upload Ola🔥👍🏻 what I really like about Alexi is that his composition talent, ideas, unique style, metallic melodies. He’ll be one of my fav top composer on metal guitar. RIP “wildchild” ❤🤘🏻
That playing is so badass. RIP Alexi.
Nailed Needled 24/7! My favorite Bodom tune. Sounds great!
Great to see you liking COB more. You nailed that tone and playing. By the way, one of the rig run down videos I watched, very simple rig and Alexi told that he had chorus pedal always on interestingly.
Woooowww this was awesome can't tell you how much impact Alexi had on an old metalhead like me and how much he influenced my son Will
ola makes my day happy 😊
hell yeah. I was waiting for you to upload this
COB is a great band. The guitar work was always awesome. Glad you reviewed the guitar. Love the look
His black and pink LTD is something I am still chasing all these years. I saw him with one in a Zzounds magazine I used to get back in 2007 and that's what lead me to look up Alexi. CoB immediately became a favorite of mine.
after his death the original ones are nearly impossible to find and to afford. Also the first black yellow one after he changed from jackson
Man, it warms my heart to see you getting into COB. Alexi was my favorite guitarist of all time. 🤘
Hi, at 5:45 was that freestyle or some riff of a song? Thanks!
@@DistarBute "Sixpounder" by Bodom.
Saw COB in 2015 with Megadeth, nothing will ever top that show. RIP Alexi 🖤
RIP ALEXI, awesome shredding Ola, you've really improved the last few years
RIP Alexi! Legend!!
How cool is that, awesome, and unbelievable, cause just from yesterday I was thinking a lot about Alexi, and reminded myself some stuff about him, and here is Ola's new video, incredible how this energy flies through the space
you definitely nailed it! obviously you said it is set to his settings but i swear there are a ton of videos with him shredding and nailing those riffs with less gain. obviously he was a master!
Dud, the intro is just sooo in your face!!! Amazing playing Ola!!!
As much as I love and admire Alexi, it was refreshing to hear one of their songs played as tightly as you did in the intro.
Great timing to do a video about a finnish guitar legend like Alexi because today, the 6th of december is indepence day in finland.
Alexi just wrote the perfect compositions. His performance was from another planet too. Absolute LEGEND
One of the best reviews ever very unbiased
Alexi Laiho was definitely my Favorite guitarist! I really hope his latest ESP/LTD guitar’s never get discontinued! I’m still sad that he is gone!
I remember the video of you listening to them essentially for the first time in glad you came around because Alexi is one of the best imo
All the orchestra hits 😆
Sick!! R.I.P Alexi he's definitely missed!
Alexi has been my number one inspiration since I discovered Bodom 17 years ago. I finally worked my way up to mastering the solo to Kissing The Shadows earlier this year, definitely the peak of my journey as a guitarist. Incredible that he wrote and recorded that (as well as countless other masterpieces) at such a young age. RIP Wildchild.
I saw somewhere that they wrote and recorded Kissing the Shadows in like 2 days because they needed another track for FTR… absolutely mind blowing
GG to you for mastering that beast of a solo my man!
Upload a cover of it if you're comfortable with that, ppl would watch :)
Discovered CoB from my driving instructor back in the day 😂 been casually listening to them ever since! Alexi was a master! 🤘🏽🔥
Hell yea! You opened with Hatecrew Deathroll. That’s one of my warm-up songs, and I also didn’t listen to them back in the day. I just remember when it came out back in the day, I watched Alexi’s Guitar World lessons on it. He was an incredible guitarist!
Holy shit that tone and playing, also your bass tones are always really sick I gotta say
Awesome Ola 👏🏼 🎉
i have been waiting for you to upload this for years haha
Got the same guitar, plus the Scythe. Installed the preamp in them both as well. Dialed in just a hint, only to get a bit extra clarity in solos, as the pickups already sounds badass on their own!
5:41 was such a killer transition!!!
I sold my JVM for A Bogner Ecstasy. It was a good choice. But if I was to rebuy a head, it would be a JVM. Channel 3 orange and red were the most amazing saturated goodness, especially with my Les Paul. Underrated metal amp that can do every style. But the Bogner takes the gain staging options and the cutting clarity to a new level.
Great vid, Ola. I'm watching you all the time again, and totally diggin' your channel. The OG!
And "Needled" is definitely my fav Bodom tune! Memories...of the good ol days...
Hi Ola, thanks for that really nice contribution.
But that's the first time I notice a lack of synchro between sound and image.
Still a very special video that I loved.
Thanks again.
Alex was so talented
Totally ripping it up Ola, you absolute God 🤘
I actually really dig that single in the neck with that distorted vibe. It gives it a different kind of tone.
Wait til you do this with a Telecaster
@@joshbittner Why?
@@RokDAWG1 cause it sounds awesome, and then the tele bridge pickup is also awesome
@@joshbittner ok
@@joshbittner, like Jari from Wintersun did in the 2000s
Thanks for this video. Alexi was, and is, a national treasure for metal music.
Great to see this done and demonstrated.
Had one of those preamps installed in a guitar, you can find a good setting, if u mess around with it.
Think there's couple videos showing how they affect. It's always a taste thing, anyways.
