Here's a comment on the size comparison. The Big Boy is HO so 3.5mm to the foot. The 9F is OO at 4mm to the foot. So the Big Boy is undersized by an eighth! I bought a slightly older model but it seems to be the same tooling. I used the electrical connection to the tender to provide tender pickup. Therefore my tender light is deactivated. I also use quite large radius curves on my layout so am able to use the closest tender coupling. Mine has DCC Sound by Loksound. The only criticism is that the whistle sound is not very loud compared to the overall sound, despite tweaking.
Thanks for the info, it is a great model 😊 I have been considering adding sound to this one 🤔 Think to the decoder goes into the locomotive but will have to check to be sure 😬 Thanks for watching the video 👍🏻
Nice one 😊 The tender on mine doesn’t have a NEM pocket but looks like one could be fitted. Do you have any clearance issues on your layout? Thanks for watching the video 👍🏻
Yes I did, but I made a few adjustments by moving the stations back a few inches. I would suggest you widen the tunnel a bit & move your stations back a few inches.
Hey, just found the video and your channel and i think its great. I was wondering if the big boy managed your points from your second radius loop to your tbird radius loop?
Hello 👋🏻 I believe I have done it a few times but it does derail doing it every now and again. My point installation wasn't the greatest so could be down to that. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video 👍🏻

Hello 👋🏻 I'm not sure how they're constructed but will take a closer look soon. So that the loco and tender can handle the tighter curves you can adjust the position of the tender on the connecting bar. There are 3 coupling positions to choose from. I've had the loco and tender on R1 without any issues. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍🏻
@@LocoLeighton Thanks for reply. On the BLI model, there is no adjustment option. But they've engineered it well, because even though it's close, that's not where the problem is. It is the tender itself that derails.
I have had it run on 1st Radius but it is better suited to 2nd and above. Coupling the tender to the furthest hole from the engine on the coupling bar also helps with tighter curves.
I've got one of these and struggled to find a video of someone showing it going around R2 and R1 curves. It does look a bit silly on R1 but good to know that it will handle it. Any idea if running this on R2 will leave sufficient space on the R3 curves for other rolling stock? The boiler overhang looks significant unfortunately but would be a good test to show. Also, I'm looking at getting mine DCC sound fitted in the future. You might want to look up TRS trains here on youtube, he can add a synchronised steam system to this locomotive as well. Looks amazing 😁 but probably not cheap unfortunately.
Yeah it does look a bit unusual on 1st radius and I'm not too sure how reliable the running would be on a 1st radius loop as I only have one curve on my layout. It does run well on 2nd radius and I had a new Hornby 9F with coaches running on the 3rd radius loop without any issues. I'm looking to fit a sound decoder too in future. Hopefully there might be an option using the new Hornby HM7000 system. I have seen TRS Trains on UA-cam as well and their system looks great but think will be out of my price range for now 😬 If you have any more questions just let me know and thanks for watching the video 👍🏻
Think of the logistics it would of actually taken to get a big boy to england to see something like this. It prob would be easier to get the coaches to america but I wouldnt look as good as this does
It would be great if Big Boy could do a UK tour like Flying Scotsman did in the USA. Hopefully I’ll be able to go back to the US and see Big Boy in person one day 😊 Thanks for watching the video 👍🏻

Nice, but it's way too big for your railway. However, if you love the engine, it's your choice. I have a much smaller 0-6-0 Bachmann American tender engine, a pair of Disneyland Theme Park Carriages and an Ore Car and a caboose. Those go round 2nd radius curves more easily, and would suit your railway a lot better. I'm worried your Big Boy might eventually derail.
