    I got my first BLI Big Boy in the mail a couple days ago for the 2024 run. I got 4014 in the glossy finish for the Promatory excursion. Very impressed. I ordered it from Train world. My first BLI locomotive and will definitely be buying more.

      That’s sick dude! I got the standard finish 4014 in this morning in the mail from TrainWorld too. I was on the fence between the glossy and standard finish. They both look great. I hope you enjoy it!

    I just got my shipping confirmation on the Broadway Limited Big Boy for 2024. I figured I'd search for this model to see what to expect. I'm glad that the quality on this model looks so amazing. Can't wait to get mine soon 🙂 Thank you for the video.

      The Big Boy came in the mail today. I will leave the review to such awesome UA-camrs such as yourself, but I will say that I was indeed blown away by the amount of detail in this engine. It is gorgeous. I don't have a layout just yet, but for now, I'm looking to display it in my living room. I am 1000% impressed with this model!

    Having a love/hate relationship with this engine, got my father one in December 22, the pigtail between loco and tender was broken so exchanged it, got the new one in January, he got it and the same day when he was picking it up and the pigtail pulled out of the connector. BLI fixed it but took about 9 weeks and ~$60 in shipping.
    While waiting we built a bigger layout and I got him a digit tax zephyr so he can use the functions. Got it back, don’t let him pick it up anymore so I put it on track we have run it about an hour or 2 and the wires on the pigtails are starting to break where the bend down from the tender connection. So I guess it’s another 9 weeks to get it repaired. Seems like they have a fatally flawed design going on here.
    Your review was spot on, it is a beautiful piece of machinery.

    • @modelrailroadingthesouthwest
      @modelrailroadingthesouthwest  Рік тому +3

      That's rough man. Having the same issue multiple times can be really annoying. I have not looked at the pig tail on mine, I hope there isn't anything wrong with it. I hope you no longer have issues with yours. I don't have much a layout and I have to remove engines to run others. I always cringe when I move mine on and off the layout. I'm always afraid that I'm going to break some details or something. They are so fragile. You are correct none the less, it is a beautiful piece of machinery.

    • @pipedreamin
      @pipedreamin Рік тому

      @@modelrailroadingthesouthwest Just be extra careful and you should be okay. For us younger types probably not a problem, but for folks with decreased motor skills it's just not feasible.
      Also, saw your other video about it derailing, check the coupling between loco and tender, it's a little 2-finger thing that has to have both fingers inside the loco's receiver, if only 1 is in it will cause the front of the loco and back of the tender to set slightly high and it will derail on any bend. When we got it back it was derailing constantly, they didn't get the coupling together right and correcting that solved the issue.

      @@pipedreamin Oh you know I didn’t even think to check the fitment of the drawbar. As soon as I have a chance I’ll go and check to see if the fitment is good on the drawbar and the pig tail too. Thank you for the advice!

    Your review, details and format were among the best that I have seen in HO scale on U-Tube. Two or three things you might think about including are showing the underside of the model > the thoroughness of your discussion concerning the mechanics there was so good that it somewhat obviated the need for that in this case. The 2nd thing was that if possible...it might be better to weigh the engine and tender separately since the combined weight takes away the ability to determine how much of a factor the engine weight has on the models tractive effort since the tender weight is simply parasitic and has nothing to do with tractive effort enhancement... for the people trying to assess the models ability to handle long trains on a club layout, for example. Lastly,
    most of your competitors have dynamometers to show what the drawbar pulling power of the models is like. Again, your videography is very good already as is your presentation. Keep up the good work!

      @modelrailroadingthesouthwest  Рік тому

      Thank you very much the compliment. Thank you so much for the suggestions. I do appreciate that. I would like to add a drawbar pull measurement to my videos. That’s actually a good idea to have weighed the locomotive and tender separately. I will definitely consider these suggestions for my next videos. Thank you!

      The best one that I can recommend is the MRC Tech 6. It is both DC and DCC. Runs $119.99 at Trainworld.com. It can do almost sounds with the function buttons and you can change CV values. I enjoyed it for about 10 years until I got the Digitrax DCS-52 which is a full on DCC system that runs $199.99 at Trainworld.com. I recommend both of them, just depending on your budget. If you have additional questions let me know.

    I was gifted one of these for Christmas last year. The details are nice, but it sounds like the same crappy sound files Broadway has had for years. Not at all impressed with the sound from either this or the UP 844 I also have. I expect better sound than this for a locomotive that costs as much as these do.

      I know what you mean about o gauge. I’m getting into it slowly and it is expensive. For DCC I recommend a Digitrax DCS-52. There are other brands like NCE Power Cab and MRC Prodigy. I prefer the Digitrax. Just don’t do the Bachmann, not worth it. You can get the MRC Tech 6. That is a DCC/DC hybrid. I used it for a number of years but it’s not equipped to do the same stuff that the Digitrax, NCE and MRC DCC systems can do.

    What radius curve do you have the engine on at 8:17? I’ve been trying to plan around making my railroad without having articulated engines hanging out front too much around corners.
