Love that #Throwback footage.
I want to post the whole thing one of these days. Maybe for members. Not sure. But that was the man, the myth, the Bob in there... :)
“Sorry I’m just pulling a Doyle” has to be the greatest joke in this entire video
You lucky son of a gun! I’m stuck with my 1970’s Lionel AFT 4449, where the synchronized chuffing is literally just the rods clanking lmao
Same
It’s realistic, I guess? 😂
O O F.
But the real question is, does it have four chuffs per wheel revolution?
Yes, sync'd with the valve events too. :)
Nice that you got to see the E.A.S.
Mark, Dusty, Brett, and Layton got more done in a _day_ than Lawrie got done in two weeks, and that's with Layton doing MOST of the work!
Is it Layton or Leighton?
Leighton. Lol. Lawrie's series has been very fun to watch... :D
I guess 4449 turned into 8888 for a bit.
can we get more videos like those ones. i like it
I will do what I can! Thank you. :)
@@Hyce777 thank u :)))
Quick where's YTP man!
As a volunteer with the Friends of 4449 / 197, I'll say if you're ever in the area and looking to make a video, I'd love to sort out a collaboration. I'm always looking for new ways to help show people that we are working on these absolutely beautiful engines and cars.
Also, I love that you never actually explicitly said 4449 was your favorite for a sliver of plausible deniability haha.
Sold.... send me an e-mail / discord dm / whatever - I will gush about your facility and choochoos as much as I can. :)
@@Hyce777 AWW SEE IT NOT WHAT YOU KNOW BUT WHO YOU KNOW, GO GET THAT VIDEO HYCE. Maybe an interview with mr McCormick too?
This is really cool dude! So much detail in each module!
Dude! Isn't it so cool? It's such a good time. :)
Yeah it’s awesome!
With those couplers, you could say the Daylight was running a Slipcoach service lol! Awesome video, and a very beautiful consist indeed!
Baby Hyce is the cutest😊
Yes, and somehow sounds exactly like a pitched up full-scale Hyce :D The text was not needed!
That's the loco that got me into trains too! I live in Portland, so it's always a big deal when it gets out. (unfortunately rarely, these days) At least you can see it at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center. Great museum, you need to see it if you ever come out to OR.
Yeah... The folks at the museum said that its too heavy to run on some poor sections of PNWR's tracks, that they were complaining about parts of the tracks having deteriorated support under the rails and thus bending and flexing.
@@rtg Yeah, and UP won't let them run either (no outside steam). PNWR runs sets of (borrowed UP) SD70Ms on the OE line between Albany and Eugene, which together weigh about as much as 4449, so I don't see how that logic works. It's sad how it's so hard for a preservation association to run on the mainline these days. SP&S 700, the stablemate of 4449, just finished its 1472 and now has nowhere to run. At least BNSF is still friendly to steam, and we have smaller self contained steam operations.
I've actually spent a day helping Doyle on his former PA back in '18. ORHF is fantastic.
Aww. I missed this one. Happy you got to use it. Was happy to meet you there too. The model is excellently detailed.
I picked up one of these made by one of the "cheaper manufacturers" (rhymes with rock man), it doesn't have all the fancy dcc sound and stuff, probably doesn't have anywhere near the detail I mean it is a "rock man plus" brand! But it does smoke!! (not in a bad way) 🤣 That said, I picked it up for $10 used, instead of the heaven bundred that BLI sells it for on their site.
That's assuming you can even find the BLI ones now, they've proven to be very popular. My LHS can only get wartime black and BNSF...
I used to have a Rock Man Rhymes model. It did what I needed and wanted it to. $10, is, a fantastic price, for any locomotive that moves, in any size... lol! The BLI one ain't cheap, and I am very spoiled that they sent me this one. I've always wanted a nice one like this.
The Train Show this year was a lot of fun!
15:00 If only the train had come apart at the tender, we would've had ourselves a West Texas drawbar.
I think that place where you filmed 4449 25 yrs ago was Kingston ferry terminal! and I film trains down there all the time now!
Yes Brackett’s Landing
Correct! Filmed from the former offices of Pacific Fast Mail (PFM) - the brass model importer. :)
Even with half the usual consist of other Daylights and coupler shenanigans that would undoubtedly make the FRA raise an eyebrow, the Hyacinth Daylight is a thing of beauty.
Oh, Hyce.... you've seen 4449 under steam, in person?! I am turning green with envy! She is my favorite locomotive, but I've never made it out to Portland, or anywhere on the west coast when she's been under steam.
4449 was my holy grail locomotive for my HO collection when I was a kid, too. Never could find her in Daylight colors... until well after my models and my "layout" (an elongated oval with no scenery) were packed away in my parents' attic. I recently picked up a Broadway Limited #4449 of my own, though I went with the 1981-2000 Excursion configuration (in Daylight livery, of course) since that's what she looked like in all the VHS tapes I had of her as a kid. Now I just need to find space for a layout and/or time to join the local model railroading club so I can actually, you know, run it!
You need to go see her. I've seen her under steam twice. Magical both times.
@@Hyce777 Someday! It's on my bucket list.
Nice, A young Hyce flashback
"Hopefully I can get a full set of coast daylight cars some day"
I'll take famous last words for $500 Alex lol ;)
I blame Bubbles. lol!
I am in the process of selling off most of my collection. However, I decided to dump way too much money into my Daylight. I kept my old DC Bachman, but everything else was replaced. I have ended up with a 20-car set that is modeled after a real-life train from 1944. Just because I could (and wanted to), I got an old Rivorassi cab forward to use as a helper. I will eventually get a shelf up in my office to display all 19' off it. It just so happens that the shape of my office will allow me to recreate a specific section of track north of SLO where the grade is over 2%. I will definitely be putting my shelf at the correct grade.
Very awesome
I just got this locomotive. It arrived about a month ago and yet run it yet. Beautiful model.
Looks like a fun day! And I'm positively surprised FREMO actually got across the pond (even keeping the E in its name), meaning people across the big lake could still combine their modules on one exhibition without the need for any weird adapter pieces and such =)
@Hyce your module was “built” in a day, the scenery just wasn’t completed in a day. You could run trains in a day, I call that “built”!
I appreciate that! :D
Favorite Locomotive class for me...
Narrow Gauge: D&RGW T-12 Class, because I loved to sit next to 168 while attending Pikes Peak Community College (Now Pikes Peak State College)
Standard Gauge: Can't rightly say, liked the Dash 9 from Railroad Simulator, but that's it...I'll admit I'm having trouble telling North American Diesels apart...
British Narrow Gauge: There's just something to be said about the Motorail Simplex.
British Standard Gauge: The Furness Railway K2 "Larger Seagulls"...I grew up watching Thomas the Tank Engine and I like Edward the Old-Fashioned Blue Engine, ok?
At some point I want to look into getting into FreeMo, but I've never had the fortune to run into any clubs for it. The one based here in Colorado Springs seems to have stopped meeting from what I've been able to tell. Of course, before I get back into Model Railroading, I need to see about getting some maintenance equipment (Don't even have a Soldering kit), let alone replacing hornhook couplers with more modern ones...
4449: *cruising right along, minding her own business.*
Car: *derails*
*ginormous hand comes out of the sky and rerails the car*
4449: Da fuq?
I thought the other "children" were about to kill you because of you sneaking up and playing Kenosha near them...
It didn't blow up, I wasn't sure this was even a Hyce video.
The module you guys put together came out really nice. (The ca. 1889-1910 farmhouse with all the gingerbread work is fantastic.)
The 4449 they gave you is a sweetheart. (And apparently says “SacraMENto SacraMENto SacraMENto” all the way up the Pacific subdivision lol 😂. Appropriate)
I got to see 4449 through Montana in 2004. Plus, SP&S 700 in 2002 on the same route!
Let's all tell hyce what our favorite locomotives are just for fun.
Mine would probably be... The Jupiter I won't lie the 4-4-0 alignment always shouts out to me the newer ones when they made them didn't look as good but that classic Transcontinental railroad look what's beautiful on that locomotive.
Adding to the how cool was that throwback moment with a young Hyce! And that is quite a layout, great to see the model railroad shenanigans.
If everyone made a list of what they considered the top 5 most beautiful locomotives in the world, the 4449 would not be at the top of everyone's list. But it would probably be the only locomotive on everyone's list.
Hey now. 611 exists.
I’ve had Bachmann’s DCC Sound model and MTH’s model of 4449 in my collection.
Not sure if I wanna spend more money to get this new rendition 😅 But I’d like to get a Stealth one so I can put a LokSound chip in it and give it the 1990’s/2000’s whistle.
I kinda want to do that too. I love the accurate sound, but my nostalgia does call for the older whistle. lol
That looks like so much fun!
Daaaamn, that looks awesome! I have one of the Kato N-scale GS-4's and Daylight car sets, but unfortunately it's a first run GS-4 and does not run well (bad axles and DCC unfriendliness). I should probably try and find one of the later releases.
Also, I heartily support getting involved in a modular group. It's a great way to have a big model railroad without having space for one at home. My On30 club likes to do actual operations, with switch lists and orders, when we meet at shows.
I wish I had the option to run my long trains on a layout like that, but my locomotives are all analogue. If they would have been digital my collection wouldn't be so big, considering the difference in pricing. I do have a bunch of trains with 7 cars or more. My longest one being a 14 piece ÖBB Nightjet behind a Siemens Vectron locomotive of the Dutch Railways.
Very nice loco and consist Hyce. I do have a few items from BroadwayLtd and they are all super nice. Take care. P.S., Now I've got to get you into G Scale LIVE steam. 😊
what does a standard gauge engien chant instead of Alamosa? "SanDiegoSanDiegoSanDiegoSanDiego"
Yeaaaah Daylight! I can already tell that I'll love this!
It's always fun to get some Hyce lore
I consider myself lucky that 4449 is in walking distance from my house
Edit, I’ve even rode on her!
Hyce lost wifi first thing pops into my head is the line " in ten minutes you're going to have 200 tons of locomotive smashing through Central Station on it's way to Marshall Fields.
Oh nice young Hyce got to catch 4449 in it's very brief war baby livery due to BNSF not wanting a competitor road pulling a BNSF sanctioned excursion. She is a gorgeous locomotive I've gotten to see 4 times, once at speed hauling the Freedom train through town in the Chicago burb I grew up in then on display a few towns over when I was not all that much older than Hyce was and then a third time in Daylight livery when it was in the Chicago area back 2010 2011ish. In that case once on display and then at speed on the old Milwaukee Road C&M out of Chicago making every bit of the maximum passenger speed limit.
Daylights been one of my favourites since I saw it on Erics Trains. got 2 HO models of different brands now.
Nobody robs trains anymore!
Nice Daylight set, I'm in the process of building my own San Joaquin Daylight set, 40's-50's era.
Glad you where here at this show! I remember seeing you you might not remember me but I was with the Moffat Road Railroad museum lol glad you found at least some daylight cars! Some is better than none!
Hyce, come to N scale! You can get a proper consist in the same amount of space ;)
Just bought an AC-12 Cab Forward! Shockingly less than BLI is charging for these..
Beautiful models! Looks like Leighton’s cars needs new couplers!
The true West Texas Drawbar incident, when Hyce pulled the 4449 off the track in the middle of West Texas.
I hope to someday get a Broadway GS-4 and complete my GS-4 Tri-Force
My top 2 favorite steam trains 1 Union Pacific big boy 2 southern pacific daylight 4449
What app are you using for steerin it, I use Z21 by Fleischmann and Roco and it works great.
I would love to see the sunbeam. The T&NO Beaumont to Dallas main line went through my hometown of Sacul, TX.
A very nice model. I've got a full daylight set with no gs4 to pull it. It is a VERY heavy train when you have the full consist
You need to run at Greeley CO! The Colorado Model Railroad Museum is a huge layout! It takes 2 whole hours to run a train from one end of the layout to the other end!
we have a free mo kinda like that in NC and im a part of it and we use our phones for throttles too. Amazing video and Great job on the modules. Also The volume button for the Train Driver app controls your throttle and makes it easier instead of touching the phone screen.
I got 3 of those 4431 and 1980s to 2001 4449. One has a custom Gold Coast flyer decales
Does it have the air horn sound? That would have confused the uninitiate, it certainly did me when I saw it on a VHS some years ago. 🤣😜
If you ever find yourself in north carolina on a saturday, stop by rocky mount to visit golden east model railroaders. We'd love to have you.
BLI makes fantastic engines was thinking bout getting a daylight but skimped out for the big boy at the train shop because of course.
I wasn't expecting a runaway, but probably should have
This will be a great layout once it gets to running smoothly. On Saturday when I was there nothing was running but some of the modules were looking great.
Lucky man! I just bought a broadway limited sp&s northern.
some kadee 118s help a lot with uneven modules and under coupler height cars
Hey hyce the galveston railroad museum has a piece d&rgw standard gauge rolling stock
4:20 No Hyce, you're not allowed to bring out the hand of god until you've provided the cup of pee to the relevant authority :P
I got a dcc bachmann gs4 and was debating what sound decoder I wanted to put in it. Definitely have the answer to that question.
would love to see you make a video on the trains and rail system of the "miniatur wunderland" in hamburg germany!
gosh this makes me want to pull my VR C class out from storage and run it on my (currently non existant) layout
I would Love to assist you with my BigBoy 4014 and my UP 844 😂
if youre ever in the area you should check out the san diego model railroad museum, they have ho scale models of the goat canyon trestle and tehachapi pass with accurate scale and scenery. my grandpa used to take me there a lot when i was a kid
I'm starting to get into Diesel Locomotives; really impressive Train!
I have the 2008 MTH 4449, smokes like crazy and sounds pretty decent. The sound and details on the Broadway are better in my opinion but I practically stole my MTH model so that’s what I’m sticking with for now. So fun to see you enjoying such a beautiful model.
Gotta love that. When I was younger I wanted the MTH one. Glad it worked out this way though.
When will we see more model railroading on the channel man?
I wish I could have been at that show. None of the shows up here have room for layouts that big!
was waiting for the 777 and 39 cars comment , when you lost control
9:11 yayyyyy im not the only one who has to deal with connectivity issues at train shows!
One of my local clubs insists on using NCE. NCE's wireless straight up does not function at shows due to interference from all the other systems.
@@SpawnofChaos thats what happens to even the most robust digitrax setups at the edison Greenberg train show
A step up from my Lionel S-2 turbine, I think…
Isn't that the Train from the tv show Shining Time Station closing Theme.
Yo it was so awesome to meet you there! I wish I got a picture with you :( was too tired tto think at that point but thanks for the coin :)
I’ve been to that event center for one train fest and quite a few Boy Scout events. Good times.
You found that 4449 with wartime livery😮
That is a beautiful model! I always love the collaborative layouts where everyone makes a section!
it's not a real model railroad convention unless there's at least one daylight present regardless of the territory
Nice GS-4, but those cars roll pretty bad oO
Damn I didn’t know schlatt did model trains.
Reallllly love the high desert modules, they look phenomenal
6:48 I swear to God this guy's girlfriend better not see the way he smiles at that train
That part about turning the smoke unit off is no joke. About 10 years ago, I somehow melted the smokebox on a BLI C&O 2-10-2…. With the layout powered down!
...holy crap.
1:13 baby Hyce seems to be and looks like baby me from 15 ish years ago
I had a chance one time to possibly get my hands on like the smallest scale model of the Jupiter and I begged my dad to get it for me and he wouldn't get it and I'm pretty sure the guy that was selling it he was currently at the hospital and I was at a flea market and his friend was selling his stuff and all and he was going to give it to me for like 80 bucks and the guy was in the hospital and I'm pretty sure he died because I haven't seen him there since and I will never forget the chance that I had to purchase that locomotive just to have it sit on a shelf just knowing that I had it would have made me happy every day but my dad refused to buy it because it was too expensive and it made me sad.
Slow down and try a full stop haha. Don't worry about it, you've got your whole life to collect trains!
Need more Model Railroading Vids MAN!!!!!!!
Hey hyce! i was also at the train show! I actually got to run some trains too!
If I get 100 ft of track in front of me, no one is stopping me from highballing it. That's a nice track to do at least twice the speed shown here, especially with an engine like 4449.
Maybe a class J, Hudson, or Niagara. But I only have the last one, and it's o scale.
I played high speed and it didn't work out, and was a bit frowned upon, so I was being nice. :)
Nice trainset. I really like the close coupling of the passenger cars...that alone makes the trainset look real. 😊
