What’s goin’ on Spoiler Skwad? My name is MT and welcome back to the HS show! And listen, between you and me, this is actually your 15th time watching this breakdown of the first Men in Black movie from 1997. You just forgot about it. But don’t worry…I GUESS I’ll tell you all those easter eggs and production details that you missed AGAIN because I’m nice like that. Just pay attention this time, will ya?
Opening on July 2, 1997, the first Men in Black movie would earn $51.1 million dollars on its opening weekend and a total of $589.3 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run…making it Sony’s most successful film until Willem Dafoe stabbed himself in the balls with his glider in 2002. It is, of course, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld whose previous works included the 1991 Adam’s Family movie and its subsequent 1993 sequel “Addam’s Family Values”, the 1993 film “For Love OR Money” and 1995’s “Get Shorty”. Men in Black is also executively produced by cinema legend Steven Spielberg, who had recently dropped the second Jurassic Park film a few short months before this movie.

Let us know your thoughts on the movie below
This is so hilarious cuz I was just binging MiB movies cuz I was watching the series 😂😂
Can we Get a The Crow breakdown?
The Wil Smith begging tour has started.
i just re-watched this last night
@@Apexthebeast me too lol
MIB 3 surprised me by having alot of heart and touching 3rd act. Making MIB a solid trilogy
Vincent D'Onofrio should had been nominated for an Oscar just for Edgar's amazing physicality!
This actor is SO underappreciated
As per the commentary (least on the blu-ray disc) he based (somethings?) off of Peter Sellers.
@@battlescornHe is great in everything he is in! If I meet him in real life I’d probably cry because he freaked me out so bad in The Cell.
This is a big reason why I like Heavy Spoilers. I look up and they choose a refreshing movie like the OG Men in Black to cover out of the blue. Nice.
Another thing I noticed about this movie that no one seems to bat an eye at is the scene where kay lights a match for a cigarette only to be put out by the slime dropping from the ceiling revealing David cross stuck to the ceiling. Kay has never been shown smoking before or after that moment.
The little alien walking around behind the tall bald man in the customs scene is played by none other than Mini Me himself, Verne Troyer
Rip king.
@@JustinMoralesTheComposerI thought Vern got eaten by Seth Rogan? Or was it Seth McFarland? Either way, rest in peace.
Wait! I’ve seen this 15 times already? Well I guess a 16th time won’t hurt.
Looooool
@@heavyspoilers I don’t remember writing this… but it’s still true; bring on viewing number 16!
Man, the third movie does the first / and frankly the trilogy JUSTICE! Holy crap, when I saw MiB3 and the plot twist/ending… I legit cried and made this movie so much better on a rewatch!!!
The 3rd one is my favorite!
For sure it makes sense why K picks J from the other recruits when he seemingly is the outcast
@@theshillpill6937 True, Prob helped that J showed with his actions that he naturally thinks outside the box for better or worse to.
"Or is this the timeline where ......"
@@Dlf212 gotta love Griff!
First movie is the best movie for sure. Badass breakdown MT, always a pleasure!
I can't believe they tried to reboot this franchise. This movie was a product of it's time, and it's marvelous.
Also, Old will Smith also doesn't have the best judgement, lol.
That big bald arkillian is also Lurch in the original Adam’s family movies. 15:54
Eddie Murphy once said, "There is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve; success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind. Its a blue print, and i folliwed it my whole career, its very simp, just do these three things:Pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your fucking mouth.”
Fun fact: the joke about Rodman’s appearance being “not much of a disguise” was a callback to Rodman’s appearance on Third Rock from the Sun a year earlier
This is one of my go to movies when I'm bored or need background noise- thanks for the breakdown.
28 DAYS LATER next please !!! 🙏🏻 🤘❤️
Yes I second that
I named my wifi network Orion's Belt 😂 I love MIB
One detail I noticed but it wasn't mentioned is that when K and J meet with Beatrice, she offers them lemonade. When J takes a drink of the lemonade, his lips pucker cause there is no sugar in it since Beatrice used all the sugar for the alien bug's sugar water.
The line with J and K that ends with Imagine what you will ‘know’ tomorrow. I’ve had that on my wall ever since
I want the "Is it worth it?" "Oh yes, it's worth it...if you're strong enough." to be added to my retirement video stream or gravestone
So that's why I'm watching this at 2am. Neuralyzer got me again
Loved this breakdown, MIB was a great choice also. So many fun facts I didnt know about this movie, Awesome job MT!
Man, I love this movie and the premise. I even bought the sunglasses and soundtrack. This was the first movie that I bought the VHS for because I wanted to pause it and look at the stuff on the screens, like all the famous aliens.
Look up Will Smith explaining why he passed on The Matrix. You can totally understand why he did.
Better than newrockstars
So much better
Always better
Can someone tell me why he left new rockstar and he came here
@@bikibalami4829 he didn't leave he was let go by new rockstars in very bad fashion along with a handful of other hosts including Whitney vanLanningham and Tommy Bechtold. New rockstars really messed them all around.
I don’t think he left, I think he’s just sharing
Hell ya do Men in black 2 and 3 too please. You can skip mib international lol
Awesome pick, great job MT
So happy to find MT, thank you
man i was sorta obsessed with this movie in 97 lol. 7th grader me thought this movie was so bad ass...and i loved the song. I was still discovering how songs were sampled too, so finding out the original Forget Me Nots was a treat. The cartoon series on WB was awesome too
MT Is my favorite. Glad he’s here. HeavySpoliers keep it up!
Once again love the videos but am asking for The Crow movies plz and where are the rest of the alien movies 😂
Will Smith is the real alien. Dude went back in time to take a high school pic just for this movie to work.
Love MIB. Thank you, MT! Would love if you broke down MIB 3 too!
Another random fact: the first film says it’s a Marvel comics property but the second film lists them as Malibu comics property.
I can't wait for breakdown on MIB 2
6:00 - An implication to the Neuralizer having a "Male", a "Female", and "Alien" mode is that human neurology has DOUBLE the complexity of ALL the alien species in the universe, combined.
In the french version, it's not Dennis Rodman who is mentionned at the end, but Michael Jackson... I think it's funny considered the "bad disguise" quote, and the appearance of Michael Jackson in the second movie
I’m kinda sick of hearing people make jokes about Will Smith not having good judgment about picking which movies to make. The most commonly known example was when he picked Wild Wild West over The Matrix and people thought he was crazy for it, in hindsight of course.
I believe it’s exactly the opposite, I believe he knew he wasn’t right for that role in The Matrix and I totally agree. Could you imagine The Matrix with Will Smith?! It never would have worked.
Also, looking backwards, people clown him for missing out on how big The Matrix turned out to be, but I believe the only reason that The Matrix was an unbelievable success was because of Keanu Reeves.
I believe Will made the right choice
It's a good day when you get an MT vid on the feed 🐐
The thought of Edgar being skinned alive by the alien still scares me 😱 😰😰
Do a shot every time MT says "But anyways"
I'm half in the bag already!!
At the time this movie came out the animated series came out. Well it was on the WB OR when Jay turns the card around shows W/B. Maybe not but I like the thought.
I love your narration, MT. You have such enthusiasm. Another great video.
much appreciated
Hi all and welcome to heavy spoilers the best UA-cam channel ever.
MT I love how you equate Will's bad judgement of pulling out of The Matrix with his dumb decision to marry Jada 😂😂😂😂😂
3:29 Also the petrified dragonfly in Jurassic park. Cant believe you missed that Easter egg.
You forgot the cameo for Rick Baker. He’s one of the checkers when th Arcillian is going through customs. He’s the white ponytail with the gray streak.
I wonder if the MIB knew about The Doctor.
Never realized Kingpin was the bug guy
You missed the mild foreshadowing of the Firefly hitting the car, and The Bug crashing into the car.
Like George Lucas says, "It's like Poetry, its kinda parallel with eachother, like a dance between partners, or like the twin engines of a Pod-Racer"
Tommy really shook that pug
Always gratifying when I see a breakdown from HS and think this has to be MT.
Love Danny Elfman's score at the movies start
1 of 2 Will Smith franchises where he dies offscreen and gets a painting put up
Honestly I love all the MIB movies. The first 2 are gold but 3 and 4 are decent as well
Just watched this the other day. It made me watch the animated series, which made me remember how awesome that new jack theme song was 😂
Me too. I wish they would do a new MIB animated series. Stories are good but the animation hasn't aged well
Keep on rockin', MT! I'm diggin' your breakdowns.
MT dun done it again! My boy! Nice work
I've met Barry sonnenfeld! Awesome guy! He had an awesome house out in the Hamptons we worked on. Big movie theater lol
Great post tyvm for sharing 👏
I loved this movie back in high school. I actually did a Agent K monolog for a acting competition my senior year. Keep up the great work MT!
Ive been wanting to watch this movie. Thanks guys. Lol
Really cool video! Thanks, MT!
I love the whole franchise.. My favorite.. its hard to choose a favorite. I even enjoyed the international one.
Thank you MT!
Great vid, please cover the sequels too!
Saw this movie in the theater with my dad
The celebrities that are aliens bit is pretty clever
Just a comment to support my man MT!
Awesome job MT!
Love ur voice MT..thank u for ur content
Awesome breakdown choice! I am always floored but how well put together this first movie is.
MIB 3 is my fav movie. Thank you for sharing this video.👽
funny thing is I was watching this movie while eating lunch today
Ohh snap, could've never tell that Kingpin was in the movie as that Bug alien, crazy...
What’s the best 1985/86 alien movie between. Explorers vs Flight of the Navigator? Both amazing and I hope they remake them. I love flight of the navigator best. It was more emotional with a better story. But Explorers rocked too.
Clicked for MiB, stayed for the memes. Will Smith slapping Chris Rock will never get old XD!
After seeing MIB 3 K deleting J's files is a lot more meaningful
A surprise to be sure but definitely welcomed
legit my new favorite youtube channel
This one is my fave
Great breakdown y’all. Love this channel!
missed opportunity to just use a png of the memory erase device at the end there pointed at the camera 😂
I love that since new rockstars let him go Mt. Just took all the ideas they were about to do and did them first. Serves them right for firing all of those people... Some of them were better than the people they kept.
I never realized will Smith starred in back to back Alien invasion movies...huh
Truly one of the best 90s movies
19:21 - one of the funniest edits I've seen in a while!!! 😂😂😂
Very good voice, tone and rhythm. Pro!
The movie neuralizer does help convince the traget to do things to. Its alot more vague. But we do see several times including thing they should do as if it was their ideas. Ie Kay telling her she'll be better off without him, and Jay Telling Edgar's widow to go buy dresses and decorations for her house. I know that one is more played off as a joke, but still. I think it's the same thing. Not full on hypnosis but at least convincing them of thoughts directly after the missing memories.
MIB is unironically my favorite trilogy. And i dont even hate International. It wasnt as amzing as the originals, but i still enjoyed it for expanding on MIB
Another good video 👍🏼
Sylvester stalone, al roker and Danny Davito being aliens makes way to much sense 😭
I actually find it kind of sad that you have to go into that much detail about beam me up Scotty, that expression that was never said in the show. LOL
I recall the July 4th weekend being named the "Will Smith Weekend" through the mid-90s. Pretty fun flicks!
Honestly I loved this movie and I went and saw it in theaters. It has aged so well!
0:09 why did I think about this for a second, like have I? Are they doing it over? 😂😂😂
MT, you're awesome. That is all.
You missed the part in beatrice's house, when drinking the lemonade J spits it out because it was unsweetened, because Edgar eate all the sugar in the house
Bravo!
Literally just finished watching this movie with my Son. Hes 6, he loved it
In his book, Will Smith says that he did turned down Men in Black but that Stepghen Spielberg in person made him change his mind. He doesn't mention Jada having anything to do with his decision...
I've watched this movie at least 100 times and I have shut my eyes EVERY TIME the neuralizer was used....
9:35. Wellllll 🤔 according to Men In Black 3. Agent K met James as a kid. 🤫
I always thought that the guy at the kiosk when they go to interview the Pug looked like the guy from Rocky Horror picture show.
Great!
