After my friend's family let me stay in their home for two months (rent free) I installed an AirCon unit. Here's how it went.

Ah, that makes sense. Was wondering while watching. Nice of you. You won't in this case but what is nice about these units is that it is also easy to remove and you leave very little trace of it having been there.

I thought the air conditioner was were you reside. I can't they were working with live wires. I personally would go to the circuit breaker box and cut off the electricity. Were they purchased the unit, was it similar to Amazon like in the United States?

Try using it on dry mode. 💦 On the remote. It's the best way to run a AC in a humid country. It cools the room without putting extra moisture in the room as the standard cooling setting does.

This is a good way to say thank you to your friends for allowing you to stay there for a couple of months rent free, by leaving behind a nice new aircon when you do go back to Phuket. And finally keeping you cool in the meantime. But then again I think you are pretty cool yourself in your videos , hope to meet you one day when I finally can get back to Phuket ( maybe by Nov. - Dec when I have booked to return ) , no more quarantine.

Seeing those sparks fly when he was twisting the wires together freaked me out. Plus, Thailand has 220 volts, not 110 like here in Canada. Extra jolt for your buck!

Circuit is very likely protected by an RCD main circuit breaker (called a GFCI in the US) they don't have these in the US, once it hits 30 mA of leakage it trips, so likely not really that dangerous. But it will turn the whole building off when it trips.

I Bought and had installed that exact same 12,000 BTU TCL unit as a gift to a friend. I purchased it at Thai Watsidu for B8900 and had it installed by their installers for B2000 + B500 to haul an old dead unit away so just about the same cost as yours.
That was 3 months ago and so far, so good. Quiet and fast cooling, economical as well. She has a 35 sq/m studio and since she works most days, it only operates at night. She pays the B5 government electric rate and so far, for Feb., March & Apr. has never had a bill over B900. Not bad for a 12,000 BTU unit. I have developed respect for TCL products. Yes: Chinese and Yes: cheap but they manage to produce quality products from my experience with them.

Hey Rob, we put an air conditioner in yesterday, our second one. I put one in my master bedroom on the second floor last fall and I use it all the time. We were originally gonna put this one in my friends bedroom on the 3rd floor but he spends more time on the first floor because that's where the big screen tv Is so we decided to put it there. 555
It does make a lot more sense to have it on the first floor because thats where the kitchen and dining rooms are and the living room too. It makes a lot more sense.

Concerns me. There seems to be sparks when he joins to the live wire. There shouldn't be unless there is a path to neutral or earth somewhere. Perhaps he had the unit switched on which would explain the sparks, but if not then there is something to be concerned about regarding leakage currents on the newly connected wire. Nothing is illegal in Thailand unless the only two rules are broken of not pissing someone off or not being around a person of authority who needs lunch money at that time.
