The ASKII Ambient Fantasy Music Series continues - After the journey under the open skies of Natura you are about to step through the gates of the underworld into the Vaults of Obscura. Travel through deep dungeons, cavern mazes and ancient catacomb cities. Discover their sad history and cruel secrets, and maybe you will find the treasures and fortunes you are looking for. Though, be aware, adventurer! You should hope your presence may go unnoticed by the evil lurking in the dark!
Whether you need background ambience for DnD sessions, the right atmosphere for reading or just enjoying some dark Ambient music, Obscura builds tense horror soundscapes inspired by RPG like The Elder Scrolls Oblivion/ Skyrim and The Witcher. Like the first Video of the Ambient Series (Natura), Obscura features 1 hour of non-repeating, original Ambient music with sound effects suitable for DnD sessions.
-- Story --
Your journey begins in the brutal Dungeons of the Old Emperors, a huge underground complex built deep into the mountain. Numerous myths and legends are surrounding the prison. Whoever was incarcerated down here never made it out alive - they were condemned to fight for food in gladiator arenas and work in the mines deep below the dungeon. It is abandoned since a big riot a century ago, little is known about the incident. Town folk says criminal scum likes to use it as hideout now, so better be prepared!
Through the old city’s sewer network deep below the dungeon you make it into a natural cavern system that leads you further into the mountain. It seems inmates of the Dungeon working in the mines overwhelmed the prison guards, teared apart the separation walls and tried to escape through the cave system. Little did they know what they were running into...
Dozens of references throughout the whole realm tell of the First Civilization. Primal and cruel, they built huge cities miles underground - vast temples to worship their Lich Kings with Pagan rituals. Only few of these ruins have ever been found, with their capital (in the books referred to as “Obscura”) remaining lost - just like the adventurers who tried to find it. Nothing is known about their fate. But step in and see for yourself!

One aspect of Fantasy Music I always wanted to try is Dungeon Music. Thinking of the Ayleid Ruins of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, I clearly remember the intimidating atmosphere wandering through those dungeons, even in the late game as a skilled character. But it wasn’t only the zombies, the faint lights and deadly traps, but also the music that created this immersive atmosphere. An impression that lasts till today.
I decided to take a similar approach as I did in Natura on the underworld journey, going for different chapters. I chose a dungeon, a cave system and an underground tomb complex. Each got a short, drafted background story, a main potential threat (bandits, monster spiders and undead creatures) and based on all that, its very own distinctive character in music. I wanted to create some connections to my game memories, but also add my own interpretation of how it should sound.
To make the experience as immersive as possible, I didn’t want to stick to an animated still image, so I chose to dive into the world of the Unreal Engine 4 creating a level scene with some asset packs - the world of Obscura came to life.
I hope you enjoy the journey! If you like the video, please consider hitting the Thumbs Up button and share it in your community. Really appreciate your support! Cheers ;)
This was fascinating to watch and to listen to. Thank you!
@@a.b.7469 Well, thanks for watching! :) Glad you like it
Yaaaassss!!!
Oblivion dungeon music is exactly what I'm feeling right now. I think that's okay!
Especially while I build a terrifying, brutal D&D Horror Adventure, with slimes, undead merfolk, necromancers, blights, banshees, spectator (which is like a beholder, but will attack it's own kind...very aggressive monster), a puzzle, a timer, a vampire, his mind controlled doppelganger to set a ruse, and end it with a pit fiend. Maybe even a couple of mimics for good measure? A lich too??
The possibilities are endless, you see...
@@KiX-K4T13 Loads of ideas, sounds like a fun DnD adventure! The spectator intrigues me ;-)
Me going downstairs to get a snack at 3:00 am
Or at 5 am, when parents are sleeping

I wanted to put this on as background music but ended up so engrossed in the incredible animation that I sat and watched the whole thing! amazing work on this, i hope this gets the attention it deserves for all the effort you put in and how gorgeous the level is. would love to actually play through something like this!
Thanks a lot, it's great to read such a comment! Glad you enjoyed it so much. :)
The animation is not for sale, but you can use a UA-cam Downloader to rip the video for personal use :)
I was also gonna put this on as background music, but I find myself watching it too. Awesome job!
Oh that's unfortunate, I was just about to ask what game so I could play it :(
This is EXACTLY the type of music I've been looking for to build a sense of suspense/dread in my players when DM'ing tabletop RPG's. Excellent work, hits all the right notes, will definitely be using this in future games.
Glad it works so well for your sessions :) Thank you, Daniel!
@@askiimusic Hello ASKII, id like to know if you would be willing to create music for just such an environment in an actual game teaser.
Put this on while trying to sleep.
Will never sleep again.
Here is very scary , dont be gone alone never , l as well wouldnt go where
There is bogyman killer where, l think this
You mortals and your idea of a nightmare. I'm not afraid to live in a world WITH monsters, I am afraid to live in a world WITHOUT monsters.
I'm a dragon. I need prey to hunt slay and eat. You wouldn't understand.
I just have to say, this feeling of immersion is phenomenal. This music is so...tense. I've watched this completely about 5 times, and yet I feel like if I was actually there I would still get lost. Plus, the music adds this sense of paranoia. From the video, nothing comes out to get you, but you FEEL like it will. Every turn of a corner, you're just waiting to get jumped. I LOVE IT!
Thank you so much for your comment! :) Glad to read what I attempted worked out like this. The basic idea is that you hear the threat, but don't see it. The rest is experience from computer games I guess =) Thanks again!
This absolutely needs more recognition. I will be using it in my sessions for sure and I will talk praises of it whenever I can.
Thanks a lot mate! Your support is much appreciated :)
Can't help watching for the whole hour to find non-existent jumpscares XD Love this, inspiring
Thank you very much! :)
I wouldnt go down never , here is a place darker damned where aswell what there is existence or monster ? We dont know . It is too dangerous to discover there , when you go alone where , you may be locked inside of the door on the point of not to be opened never . I suggest you where Dont be gone alone
@@serhankapucu5885 all those reasons make me wanna go in more XD
I believe the idea is to let the conjurations of the mind come up with the monsters to fill in the blank. And that is exactly what I am here for. To let it soak in, and let it manifest, and let it show its self.
This is the way it tends to work for me, as I sleep, I dream of a place somewhere out there. A place where few heroes dare to go, a place that is dark, eyrie, and mysterious. Naturally curious with a drive to explore unknown challenges I step in, my talons silent on the smooth stone floor. The monsters sensing a presence step forth from the darkness, expecting to find foolish prey who has wandered too far from home.
To their horror, instead, they find me. In a swift furious flash I pin one, biting down on them, though it is a dream I taste their succulent flesh, yet, because it is a dream my hunger is not quenched.
As I venture deeper, I find fewer and fewer monsters as they wisely hide, and I easily slip past traps, and find a stash of treasure.
I then wake up, still hungry and still wanting the shinny trinkets. My mind fixates on where I am, VS this place, and I realize, this was no ordinary dream. This dream came from mighty Bahamut. Of all the Copper Dragons he could have chosen, he chosen me, because I am a good hunter.
Seeking the hunt to be made real I take to the sky, flying off to this place, hopefully now for real. The next adventure begins. Tails to be told to mortals such as yourselves to be made.
Epic music is like a sonic journey through the peaks and valleys of emotion. The dramatic highs and lows in the music create a powerful narrative that resonates with the soul.
From Abyss of Souls to the end, I kinda got reminded of the Blackreach ambience from Skyrim, and I just loved those parts! This is amazing and should be watched by more people
Thanks! Blackreach has indeed been one of the most impressive dungeons I have ever played in video games, so it certainly shaped both the audio and visuals of Obscura.
imma play this at work via the departments speakers first thing on monday
anything beats the Last Christmas hell.
Writing D&D session to this. The goblin town of Narkadark will never be the same...
Glad if it can inspire you! :)
I love to have this just playing on my living room tv during the day. Not even watching it, just the ambience flowing.
Amazing underground landscape.
Thank you very much!
Put this on as background music while reading. Perfect atmosphere. Love it
Thank you very much! 🙂
Thank you for making this! Such amazing BGM for my d&d dungeons!
Man, this is like walking through a scary dungeon in Skyrim or Oblivion. Awesome work, my friend! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks a lot! :)
@@askiimusic You’re welcome! 😉
Man, I got half way through a year ago and forgot about this dark journey. Gonna have to set up the room tonight and see if I can use a virtual headset and try again.
Hope you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you to whoever animated this whole video! I watched most of it!
Glad you like it, thank you very much! I uploaded a new one a week ago, by the way. :)
This is like a constant buildup with no eventual release; too much pleasure, no climax. But still very enjoyable all the same. 👍🏻😊
Glad you enjoy it!
Absolutely genius. This reminds me of Return To Castle Wolfenstein last mission when Blazkowicz returns to the oldest part of castle and explores underground.
Oh, that was a great mission! So atmospheric. And low on ammo constantly :D
Hey this is really amazing! Can't imagine how much effort you put into creating this level. It turned out really well, thank you
Thank you very much for your comment, really means a lot to read this! :)
the change of feeling at 36:10 in particular ... seamless. Brill!
Thanks a lot! :)
This is really great! Usually, this kind of synthetic music really sound... well, synthetic. The quality of this is impressive! Thanks!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it! :)
this is fantastic! Love the the level of production that went into this!
Thank you, much appreciated! :)
Left Behind Bars is so beautiful. Thank you sincerely for creating and sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
the video is just the bomb
Some of the most fantastic dungeon music that I have ever heard. Bravo!!!
Feeling honored, thank you very much!
this is just so amazing!
This is so awesome! Just what I've been looking for. So pleased I could 'look around' while listening to the soothing, yet emotionally stirring music. I want more!
Glad you like it! There are two more videos on my channel, another one coming in April
What a beautifully haunting journey. I'll have to rewatch this daily for an entire week/month+. Thanks so much for creating & sharing this. *hugs* :D
Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it! Means a lot to me :)
This really puts me in the mood. I love to feel like if I was inside one of those dungeons with this incredible dark atmosphere. Thank you for this great work! I'll share with my rpg partners.
Thank you very much! Always glad when my work does inspire, means a lot to me. Cheers!
This is very impressive detailing. The lighting. The shadows. The brick lighting and details. Just very very work.
Thank you very much! :)
This is so incredibly immersive!
Thank you very much! 🙂
This is so beautiful, in such an unsettling way. I feel like I'm being given a tour of someplace I really, really wouldn't care to be. I love it!
Thank you so much! :)
This is awesome. Thank you ASKII. I will be definitely using this at some point in my campaign. You have an incredible talent my friend.
Glad to hear, thank you very much!
and of course like any good long-abandoned tunnel.....
the torches are lit
Yep! Unless... the dungeon is not so abandonded after all! =)
@@askiimusic :O true......
Exactly my thoughts - every single time I see something like this.
This is so incredibly immersive. The music is brilliant for reading and playing RPGs, although I absolutely love just listening to it while watching this amazing animation. Fantastic work, I really hope you'll get more recognition!
I'm glad you enjoy it! :) Thank you
Simply awesome. Love it!
Thank you!
This is immersive af
This is AWESOME for writing, thank you!
Super excited that it inspires you! =) Thank you very much!
Recently started writing for the first time and this is really helping me set and follow the mood with certain parts of the story. Thank you!

I love the glow-in-the-dark crystals and mushrooms.
It adds a mysterious aspect to the caverns :)
Pa plus your motion. Speed thru the roomsa s are perfect speed, you can look at things and appreciate it. Without missing something going by too quickly.again..just outstanding .
Glad you like it, thank you very much! 🙂
a true piece of Art in Picture and Music, worth seeing again an again over years, and never loses its immersivness. Love it!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Got to be one of the best dungeon mixes
Thank you! :)
OMG this is sooo amazing. I'm going to use this in my dark fantasy dnd game! It will be perfect ambience during the darkest hours.
Thank you very much! Glad you are using it for your games :) Cheers
This is so good! I've been writing for the past hour and this was the perfect ambiance for it as my fantasy character uncovers a lost book filled with long-forgotten history from millennia ago. Thank you so much for your great work!
I'm glad it inspired you!
Well made, our session was more immersive thanks to this music.
Glad that it worked so well, thank you very much! :)
Came here not expecting much, thanks for the amazing music lad, cheers :)
I'm glad you like it, thanks a lot for the comment! =)
This is the best video masterpiece ever I have ever watched of this kind of videos! If you ever decide to remove it from UA-cam for some reason and the internet, make a DVD of it and I will gladly purchase it. Thank you ASKII!
Wow, thank you! Feeling honored to read that! :-) You are the second one asking me about a DVD lately. I don't have plans in that direction for the moment, but will keep it in mind. In any case, my content will stay available online.
Just used this as visuals while crawling through a dungeon in D&D, even after we finished I couldn't help but keep watching. Now it's got me wanting to write all spooky like, so the characters that end up dying are definitely gonna blame you! Thank you for putting so much effort into this, though. Honestly, it's amazing!
That means a lot to me to read that, thank you very much! :) I had this idea of making dungeon music with some visuals and thought why not building a whole level to the images I had in mind already.
Now this kind of content is a (slowly growing) series on my channel.
I was looking for Dark Fantasy music and found a few videos I didn't care for. This is exactly what I wanted!
Glad to hear! :)
This just came up on my youtube feed, and it's awesome.
Thank you very much! 🙂
just found this tonight, amazing work gave me a better sense of scale for my dungeon building for my D&D group thanks! did not expect it to be a tour of awesomness
Thank you very much!
Great!!! Thank you!
Presently using this in my campaign as the party treks into the Underdark.
Top tier content right here. Well done.
Thank you very much! :)
I just need to say this is awesome, thx for creating and sharing it.
Glad you like it!
WOW! WOW!! WOW!!!
awesome!
Thanks!
Awesome work on both the composition & the animation
Glad you like it!
This is so well done. Incredible!
Thank you! :)
Awesome. Couldnt take my eyes off the screen. I would like to walk through a place like that, reminds me of the Underworld.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So perfect!
Thank you! :)
super nice, thx
Thank you! Cheers!
This! Is how ambient music should be done!! ASKII you have set the standard with this video!!
I just followed an idea =) Thank you very much!
This is so damn beautiful... I'm watching it since years, again and again, still with intermissions of a few weeks or months, but always again. Perfectly relaxing and thrilling at the same time (sry for clumsy english, writing from Germany). Great work. ❤
Freut mich zu lesen, vielen Dank! :)
Standing ovation !!!
The best video I've ever watched in my life!!!
Have more ???
Wow, thanks! :D Check the Hegelburg videos on my channel. Different scenario, but same type of content. More is in the making!
I use atmospheric videos as background and I have clicked on this one whenever it is re-suggested; the music is sublime!
This is the first time I see the video and I find myself unable to look away especially during the 2nd half. I so want to walk there lol I love the graphics and the camera frames and the pace. Outstanding concept design and execution!
Thank you so much!! :-)
When I first heard (watched) this video it had a few hundred views, now it has passed the half-million mark. Totally deserved! I would say "Obscura" is still one of the best dungeon music on UA-cam (besides Skyrim).
Perfect tune while writing Pen & Paper scenarios.
Feeling honored to read that, thank you! :)
this is really good
Thank you!
Man this is my new go to when I need to relax.
For some it is :D
Huge plus for this dungeon exploration animation. 💀🍷
Thank you :)
Perfect ambience for a dungeon lost in time but full of dark secrets... Going to use it for the Tomb of the Nine Gods in my ToA campaign
Glad you like it, thank you very much! :)
this excellent work! I can literally describe things as we go..
Thank you very much! 🙂
This is exactly what i was searching for..... most of other mixes i found on youtube were either too bright, too distracting, or too repetitive.
this is just perfect :) playing Darkest Dungeon with this
Thank you, glad to read that! :) I don't like looping music, so I really appreciate your preference!
super cool, I was looking for an atmosphere to read berserk, and this fits so well ! thank you so much
Thank you for your comment! :) Much appreciated!
I also found this music for the same purpose!
Love it!
Thanks!!
I found this on dungeon synth bandcamp, love it
Thank you! :)
i love how it is a moving camera through a nice dungeon not just a static image, love it!
Thank you! My initial idea was a static image actually, but then the idea crossed my mind to build a complete dungeon like I did in the end.
@@askiimusic hold on, you rendered an entire dungeon?! How long did that take? Was there a library you used or smth?
@@hisride If I remember correctly render time was around 36 hours. I built the dungeon in Unreal Engine with a few packs of Unreal marketplace assets.
@@askiimusic I see I see
I love the cinematic animation you do here. It sends us to the depths of the dungeon . we listen to melancholy as our doom approaches
Thank you, glad you like it!
Dude this is absolutely fantastic! Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
This music is freaking awesome for DND. I love it =]

This is amazing, the Oblivion and Skyrim vibes mixed with hellish Diablo 2 elements

This is amazing! Just found your work yesterday, ASKII. More dark stuff please! Something for Halloween would be great, too. This was incredible. And the visuals are so stunning that I watched all the way through! Incredible work. Well done. VERY well done.
