    when uploading to UA-cam is it better to be in 1920 x 1080 .. OR .. 4096 x 2160 as I hear that UA-cam only needs 1920 x 1080 in any case but is there a quality issue?

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  6 місяців тому +1

      When uploading to UA-cam, it's generally better to upload in 4096 x 2160 (4K resolution) if your video is shot in that quality. While UA-cam does accept 1920 x 1080 (1080p), uploading in higher resolutions can offer better quality, especially if viewers have devices capable of displaying higher resolutions. Additionally, uploading in 4K resolution future-proofs your content as display technology advances. However, keep in mind that larger file sizes may take longer to upload and may require more bandwidth for viewers to stream. Ultimately, it depends on your priorities and the capabilities of your video content. Thanks for the comment!

    Great video, thank you. I see you were exporting a 9 min video which will apparently have a size of 3,2 GB. What would you do if your video (shot in 4K with an iPhone 15 Pro) is about an hour, exporting this will result a size of 19 GB which is too big to upload to UA-cam. Appreciate your feedback Thank you :)

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your comment! When dealing with longer videos, especially those shot in 4K resolution, file size can indeed become a concern. Keeping in mind that the maximum file size you can upload to UA-cam is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. But if your video is longer, to address this issue, there are a few strategies you can consider:
      Adjust Compression Settings: Experiment with different compression settings during export to strike a balance between video quality and file size. You may need to compromise slightly on quality to achieve a more manageable file size.
      Split the Video: If possible, consider breaking your hour-long video into shorter segments before uploading to UA-cam. This can help reduce the file size of each segment and make the uploading process more manageable, keeping in mind that the maximum file size you can upload is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less.
      Upload in Sections: Alternatively, you can upload the video in sections to UA-cam and then arrange them into a playlist. This allows viewers to watch the entire video seamlessly, even though it's split into multiple uploads.
      Utilize Cloud Storage: Another option is to upload the video to a cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox and then share the link with your audience. This way, viewers can stream the video directly from the cloud without having to download the entire file.
      By implementing these strategies, you can optimise the uploading process for longer videos while still maintaining a balance between video quality and file size, keeping UA-cam's upload limits in mind. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

      @lifeofjonboy  8 місяців тому

      Hey there! Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience. Sorry to hear you're facing quality issues with the export settings. Let's troubleshoot together! 🤔
      > Double-check your project settings in Final Cut Pro to ensure they match your desired output resolution.
      > Verify the export settings, paying attention to bitrate and codec settings.
      > Make sure you're exporting in a format compatible with UA-cam, like H.264.
      > Consider the source footage quality - exporting can't improve the original resolution.
      > Test different export settings to find the sweet spot for your content.
      Feel free to provide more details but if you follow those tips you should be able to resolve the issue! Keep us posted and thanks for watching!

    What about export settings for family home movies? How do those differ from UA-cam?

    • @karenwilliams6854
      @karenwilliams6854 6 місяців тому +1

      Like videos families might want to watch on a large family TV

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  6 місяців тому

      That's a great question! When it comes to exporting settings for family home movies, especially ones you plan to watch on a large family TV, the process is very similar to optimizing videos for UA-cam. Indeed, 4K resolution, which is 3840 x 2160, has become the standard for creating content these days, offering high-quality visuals perfect for viewing on modern TVs. While the old HD resolution (1920 x 1080) is still widely used and offers good quality, 4K provides a significant improvement in detail and clarity, making it a preferable choice for large screen viewing.
      It's also worth noting that while you can film and upload content in higher resolutions like 8K, for most family viewing scenarios and considering most devices are at most 4K compatible, 4K resolution is more than sufficient to ensure your videos look crisp and vibrant on a big screen. Choosing the right codec and bit rate is important to balance quality and file size effectively. Whether you're capturing everyday moments or special family events, ensuring they look their best for years to come is crucial. Happy filming and thanks for watching!

    The Apple ProRes codec chosen at the beginning only matters for the initial background rendering. This affects the size of the file in the library, but it has no bearing on the exported file. The lowest quality ProRes, which is LT, is still superior to h.264, so in this case, I agree with you that it's worth choosing the lowest quality Apple codec.
    However, this doesn't relate to disk space if we delete the project from Final Cut Pro after completion or in the near future. At that time, the initial rendering file with the ProResLT codec will be deleted from the computer's memory.
    In summary: A ProRes codec stronger than LT should be chosen only if you plan to save the final video on the disk in such a codec. However, if you use LT or h.264 for your project, then select 422LT when creating the project.

    • @lifeofjonboy

      I don't think you can export in 4k unless you set the project up in 4k. I think you would have to open a new project in 4k then copy over the timeline from the 1080p project and rescale/upscale everything. Have a look on UA-cam for a few videos as there are a few people who have done it like this guy: ua-cam.com/video/l518dl5qtu8/v-deo.html Sorry I can't help further 🤙🏼

    I converted my footage to pro res LT before I put it into FCP10 cuz I'm editing on a laptop and FCP is already sluggish. If I export LT, will that further compress the footage? Should I import the footage into FCP as pro res standard and then export LT?

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  11 місяців тому +1

      Awesome question! If you've already converted your footage to ProRes LT for smoother editing on your laptop, that's a smart move, especially if you're dealing with a sluggish FCPX.
      Now, when it comes to exporting, if you export in ProRes LT, you won't "further" compress the footage per se, but you will be maintaining that same level of compression you started with. So it's not gonna degrade more, but it won't improve either. It's generally a lighter codec, meaning you give up a bit of quality for smaller file sizes and smoother performance.
      If you want a better quality final export but still need the workflow advantages that come with ProRes LT during editing, you can definitely import as ProRes LT and then export as ProRes Standard (or even ProRes 422 HQ if you want to go all out). This will give you a higher quality final product. Just keep in mind your export time might be a bit longer and the file size will be larger.
      So, in summary, if you're looking for a balance between performance and quality, importing in LT and exporting in Standard could be the way to go about it. Hope that clears things up, man! Appreciate you watching the vid! 👊🏼

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  Рік тому +1

      Appreciate that thank you! If you shot in 1080p, exporting in 4K can be cool for platforms like UA-cam that favour higher-res content. But remember, it won't make your 1080p footage true 4K, you're just stretching it. If you want to stay true to your original visuals, stick to exporting in 1080p. It all boils down to where it'll be viewed and what vibe you're going for! 🤓🫶🏼

    I do export using "Video and audio" option and choose Prores LT or just Prores and decode/downscale video using Davinci Compressor . Prores exports faster than h264

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  11 місяців тому

      Using ProRes for faster exports is definitely a solid choice. ProRes codecs, including LT and standard ProRes, are optimised for editing and post-production tasks, so it makes sense that you're seeing faster export times compared to H.264.
      Downscaling in DaVinci Compressor after exporting is another clever step, especially if you're looking to get a specific file size or format for your final video. It allows you to keep your editing workflow smooth and then optimise your export for whatever you need it for-be it UA-cam, other social platforms, or something else.
      If you're already happy with the quality and the speed of your current setup, I'd say keep doing it. The main thing to consider is what you're sacrificing in terms of quality when using ProRes LT. If you find that the quality is more than adequate for your needs, then it sounds like you've found an awesome workflow that works for you.
      So, in a nutshell, your method sounds good for maintaining a balance between speed and quality. Hope that helps man! Appreciate the comment! 👊🏼

      @@tts1551 also depends where your exporting to if it’s UA-cam remember to play back in 4k or the highest resolution you exported!!!! UA-cam will automatically play back in a lower quality version you can find these play back setting on the video screen settings

    Why did you change "Rendering" to "Apple ProRes 422 LT" when you export as H.264 after anyway?

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  Рік тому +2

      Apple ProRes 422 LT is a more highly compressed codec than Apple ProRes 422, with roughly 70% of the data rate and 30% smaller file sizes. This codec is perfect where storage capacity and data rate are at a premium. Hope that helps and thanks for watching! 🤙🏼

    • @nnslife
      @nnslife Рік тому +1

      @@lifeofjonboy thanks for the answer, but I know that it has higher compression rate. My question is because you seemed to not utilize this setting in any way in the future: you export to H264 and ProRes 422 LT is not present in the video after the initial change.

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  Рік тому +2

      @@nnslife ok so when you set up your project you use ProRes 422 LT so your render files don't take up a massive amount of space. When you come to export the project you then want to export using H.264 as this is the best format when selecting computer/mp4 export settings. Hope that makes sense. It's what I've learnt form other filmmaker and has always worked well for me :)

    • @nnslife
      @nnslife Рік тому +1

      @@lifeofjonboy oh, so changing to 422 LT affects the size of temporary optimized video files, which are used by Final Cut while editing?

    • @lifeofjonboy
      @lifeofjonboy  Рік тому +3

      @@nnslife yes that’s correct. Meaning you don’t end up with hundreds of GB in temporary files while editing 😉❤️
