This was an awesome, easy to follow video so thank you!! Do you have to wait for everything to render before sharing? Or rather, should you? I am kind of confused with the rendering process tbh. Can I just share without waiting for all the white dots to disappear? Thanks again!!
Thanks Alice, always appreciate your positive feedback. Since this April I dedicate my time exclusively to Tech, but happy to see that my earlier Final Cut Pro videos are still useful.
This video was extremely helpful but i'm running into a problem. I have a 4k 60fps video and when I click on video and audio and H.264. I keep getting a warning that says "using an 8 bit codec with hdr content can affect the quality." I'm not sure what to do, please help 😭
Im running this on a M1 mac mini but I dont get the "master file" options, I cant see how big the size is and there is no "proceed" kind of button.. basically just settings no action to actually do something. Have I missed a step? Rendering or something?
Hi, that is strange, my advice would be to see how much available storage you have on your Mac. It may be that there is not enough available space. Hope that helps!
most of my 4k films are uploaded to vimeo and shared and viewed that way. Is it best to choose Master File and h264 considering the further compression done through Vimeo? I just want the best quality without having unnecessarily large videos.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Once the project is exported in 4K, UA-cam will automatically recognise it as a 4K video and therefore it will playback in 4K after processing (can take a few hours after uploading)!
Hey there, I have a project at the moment that when I try to export a Pro Res HQ final version FCPX just won't do it on my current project. If I open another project no problem, it does it. Does anybody have an idea why this may happen? Same camera, same settings, everything is the same, just different projects. I have tried restarting my computer and fcpx several times but it still won't export it. It starts to export and a >mov file icon shows up on my desktop but then when finished, the files disappears and never exports completely? Could this be due to a title or something I am using? Thanks
Hi Dion. Just want to say, great informative videos. I have learnt a lot i didn't know. I don't know if you can help, but for some reason when i try to export a file on the timeline to DVD, it stops at 66%. It has only just started doing this, and i have produced DVDs for years, so cannot work out why it is now doing this. Have tried finding out on the net, but cannot find any answers, any clues" Have you ever come across this problem before?
My fcp don’t show the master file export and every time I save the video when I try to upload it on UA-cam it says error and I can’t even watch the video on my files
Sorry, I find this confusing. I have a 4k video shot at 60FPS, an 11 minute video that I want to upload to UA-cam. However the file is over 4 gig. TOO BIG. How can I change that? OR do I have to shoot in a lower frame rate?
This was really helpful. I've seen another method of doing this, and wasn't sure if it was accurate. I've seen where you can "select" the project, and the "modify" the project, and change it into 4K from there. At that point, you can export in 4K. Is that another way of doing this properly, or is creating the new 4K project timeline the best way? Thanks.
that method of modifying works in ppr. In Final cut you have to create a 4k timeline, but they're all the same vs downscaling it from 4k to 1080 I think that Kinda of mess your scaling through your edit and you have to go through timeline and readjust each 4k clip to match 1080.
I’m trying to upload an 8 hour, 4k ambience video. In FCP it’s currently 1.7TB 😕. I’ve uploaded twice to UA-cam and both times it will only play in the lowest resolution. I know other creators make these videos. Do you have any idea how I might upload it? Looking for a friend 🙏
Question. All of my footage and clips were shot in 4K on my gopro but my project is in 1080p. So this video was very helpful, but why was this project 1080???
My project says 1080p at 30fps because the intro of the video start at that however, my osb screen share I have in the project read 1280x720. I'm not sure what to do since my project when I click on it like you did says 1080.
I did everything you mention made a 1080p to a 4k video and i can see the 4k video i made and it plays fine but it wont let me share the video. i click on the share button on top right of the screen and nothing happens. it does come up with a drop down menu with details. location, library, event, last modified, and notes. i don't know what that all means. Any Ideas?
DION!! You saved me with this video. I just exported my first ever 4K Final Cut project and was stumped on why it kept defaulting to HD. Thank you so much for this easy how-to! Subbed.
I was editing 4K footage in a 4K timeline in FCPX, which was making my system slow down when using plugins such as MFilmLook, MTitle, Film Convert Nitrate, & Neat Video, so I modified 4K timeline to 1080, now all the audio is gone, footage is silent - even the volume gauge bar has no sound indicator. Any ideas what happened to my audio and how to resolve this issue, other than modifying 1080 timeline back to 4k? Thanks.
How can I render faster? I have a MacBook Pro. 2.4 ghz 8 core intel i9 64gb 2667 mhz ddr4 Amd Radeon 5500m 8gb And rendering 4k takes forever! What am I doing wrong?
Hi Michael, I assume you mean uploading to UA-cam (?). If so I advice you to wait up to a day as with these platforms it can take quite some time before they fully integrate the best quality
@@DionMedia hmmm 🤔 I’ve done that! It seems like it doesn’t look as sharp still on UA-cam compared to yours! You think possibly some settings I need to adjust on my camera? I have it set on 4K and everything 😐
Thank you for watching! Be sure to check out: How to Zoom in Final Cut Pro ua-cam.com/video/JXdVjmHzY8A/v-deo.html
Thank you! Great video Dion
Thanks Boy
Very clear and informative!
Thanks Don, appreciated!
thank you I made a mistake and created a video with 1080 after editing realized it was not 4k

You're very welcome!
Incredibly useful video! Thank you so much for explaining so clearly and all of the tricks you packed in a short video.
Wow! Thanks sooooooo much - this tutorial helped me so much on uploading a 4k video, something I have been struggling with - I am very appreciative

Great tutorial. Very helpful. Thank you.
Highly appreciate 🙌🏻
Always love your videos! High Pro Res is really clean, but not completely lossless. Uncompressed is the only real lossless codec.
Thanks Alice, always appreciate your positive feedback. Since this April I dedicate my time exclusively to Tech, but happy to see that my earlier Final Cut Pro videos are still useful.
Thanks for explaining this so well!

What Mac did u use to run final cut?please comment back. I'm about to purchase but have no idea what works and doesn't work
I use latest M2 MacBook Pro, but it worked very well on earlier models
Thank you for this!

Hi, 4 gig is reasonable for an 11 minutes 4K video. A solution is to export it in a lower resolution like 1080p

Does it make a difference if I use a ProRes 422HQ when creating the project vs. ProRes422 when exporting that exact project?
Hi Patrick, this will make a very minimal difference
