That's actually cool. Wallpaper Engine earned my respect. Though I don't use it , I can use my phone to control my Steam Deck wallpaper whenever I own one.
I always chuckle a bit how the developers added an onboarding “hide anime” button 😅 That category really blew up and basically split the app into two very different audiences. +1 for Wallpaper Engine, well worth the $4!!
Does take a bit of a hit on the CPU and GPU though so if you have a low cost and low powered Windows 10/11 machine, this can take away away from your resources.
hey ETA just wanted to let you know. genshin impact has a bug where the framerate can drop up to 5 or more fps like every 30s to 1min on pc. it looks like it been happening a long while and we don't see any signs of a fix. soo when your doing a test just keep that in mind
Been watching your channel for a long time now, somehow i missed this video when you first did it. And just by chance googled how to for animated backgrounds and your youtube video popped up. Had to watch, and as always great video! Oh, and its great how some of them will put the clock and or the date in the wallpaper as well. Keep up the great work ETA!
On 3 different computers WallpaperEngine was running 100% cpu usage for me, if you have Razer accessories & this happens goto settings and turn off the Chroma plugin
I have the app but quit using it. Some wallpapers depending upon the resolution and intricacy can work your GPU like running a game 24/7. I prefer my hardware to get some downtime when I'm just browsing the web or listening to a podcast. Not burning power for pretty pictures that I can't even play.
@@MattKimura only when in full screen does it not render. If you are working in multiple windows or any time you minimize your browser/game it's running.
Ha! A great reveal and I’ll check out your 2 programs! I’ve been a fan of live wallpapers since I had a Garfield wallpaper from a Windows 98 Plus accessory disk that unfortunately wasn’t compatible with later editions of Windows.
as someone who got a Ryzen 9 8000 series CPU.. i hardly see my CPU go past 20% even while AAA gaming sooo this is a good way to make my pc look a little more better.

Wow thanks for making a video dedicated to this very topic. When are you gonna do a refresh on doing emulation on windows 11. That would be a great topic for a future video. Thanks again.
I used to set GIFs as wallpapers on Windows XP. I'm pretty sure I didn't use any third party applications for that. On Windows 7 there was a way I used those too. Don't remember though how it was done.
I use wallpaper engine on steam. I love it honestly because with my pc fans it can match it so if my wallpapers christmas pepe, it matches the colors. It does cost 10 dollars though.
Yo eta I found another teloscopic controller. And im not sure if you seen it but its called a. Mocute gamepad. And it was on aliexpress. It looks good and im intrested. But idk if its gonna be a cheap mess. Review???
It seems you only use a single monitor. I use three and I don't think multiple monitors is uncommon anymore. I'm wondering if it plays the same video on all three, or if you can choose different ones for each. If you stop it when gaming, what do your other two monitors look like? I imagine performance triples with multiple monitors as well. It just opens a bunch of questions.
I have a triple monitor setup and use wallpaper engine. You can set them to be synced, but I have mine set to different ones on rotation. The performance hit only happens if the video file it is loading into memory is LARGE (GB's). I've been running WPE for almost 10 years now, never had a single complaint.
DeskScapes by StarDock is another option. It came with my Object Desktop license, so I just use that. Same sort of thing ... uses video files for wallpaper with multiple config options.
I have multiple wallpapers in the folder and I wanted to select just one to play but when I go to the settings and into the folder, the wallpapers don't show up. Why is that? I'm using Windows 11.
Does wallpaper engine automatically disable when you're playing games? I just bought it thru Steam, set up was super easy, just had that one question looming...
I tried to use Wallpaper engine on my Dell G15 which has Ryzen 5 5600H, but it makes my whole laptop lag alot and the wallpapers dont even run smoothly. I tried tweaking with the settings but to no avail. tho everything runs okay if laptop is connected to charger but i can't charge my laptop 24/7

I like the audio visualizer wallpapers on the Wallpaper Engine. Not that many, but they're pretty good.

You only need to deactivate it for gaming. Easy setting.
Electricity costs going up worldwide coz peeps now leaving PC’s on to flex live wallpapers. 🤦♂️🤣
I used Lively Wallpaper long time ago, then used loop relaxing videos from UA-cam like rain, waterfall, fireplace.
I do this, it uses way less resources than Wallpaper Engine.

I use the galaxy wallpaper. I like the subtle animations, the stuff with lots of movement is too disorienting for me when on a desktop.
I have it on the lock screen for my Samsung phone but once I'm in the phone i have a solid wallpaper
Thanks ETA.. My son is going to love this

In case anyone is curious, you can get the paid version of wallpaper engine for free. I won't tell you where, but it rhymes with "the smirate clay"
It doesn't update so you can't use ANY of the Steam created content. Pay the $5.
It's better to pay for $5. Or maybe just wait for the discounted to 1 or 2 bucks in steam
