    There are many gold medalists in swimming, but I've never seen anyone swim as gracefully and beautifully as she does. Before going to the pool, I always watch videos of Stephanie Rice for image training. Thank you for the great videos.

Today I swam 55 laps in 60 minutes and was not nearly as tired as before. I finally understood what keeping your elbows up really meant and telling us to use our “lats” made all the difference in my techniques. Thank you so very much!!!❤

    As for abs, as a Speedo coach said, "suck in your gut like you are trying to put your belly button on your spine". Less of a problem for you youngsters, and more of a problem for oldsters like me, 72... Biggest improvement in my kicking came from learning that you are supposed to go a bit pigeon toed. For those of us that have poor toe point/dorsi flesion, going 30 degrees in gives about 20 extra degrees of toe point. I also noticed that having my hand cupped like the paddle board oars, or the oars used for the facing skull row boats, will yield a bit more propulsion. Never seen that in any video. For kicking, I dropped the kick boards in favor of a snorkel. With the board you have your head too high, which makes your feet too low, and you are not learning to use the upper body rotation that you use in swimming. In the 6 beat kick, the 1 kick is the power kick that is linked to the pulling arm. The 2 and 3 kick are more like the kick board kicks, almost no hip rotation, which is why they are weaker..

  • @Pww642
    @Pww642 Рік тому

    Thanks for this video. Your technique is lovely, but it's also different than what other channels like Effortless Swimming suggest. Your arms are entering the water almost flat -- others teach fingertips first, arm not fully extended until you catch and reach straight. You're also kicking a lot more than other channels recommend. Some say, minimal kicks. You're also looking forward -- other swim channels recommend looking down to keep from dropping the legs. Are these intentional choices? Can you help explain the differences in technique? I'm concerned about learning the wrong way if there's so much variation between tutorials.

    • @stephanierice-swimming
      @stephanierice-swimming  Рік тому

      Thank you! Why don’t you try a 25m where you go really slow and take super long strokes to try and get the count to about 17, and then one where you go flat out, and likely you will be around 22. Adding my power to your push offs on the wall and also kicks under the water, will all decrease your stroke count + obviously more power and strength in your upper body

    • @flexifuerte

      @@stephanierice-swimming thank you very much fir your answer.
      With a pull buoy and slowly I can hit 16 strokes. I decided to video myself and my legs without the pull buoy were completely apart (scissoring). So I have been working on keeping the kick very tight...but ended up with 19 strokes per lap 😱. My feeling is that I dont glide enough and I think it is because my kick is very unpropulsive. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @maxjusto3301

    Rice, here I see you do 2 kicks for one arm stroke. I guess swimmers do it for short distances.
    Could you show and tell us how swimmers do 1 kick for one stroke, like Ledecky does for 1500m.
    Swimmers who swim in the open water use just this techique.

    Hi Stephanie, this video is a school in freestyle in itself. Two question though. As a recreational swimmer at 5'6'' tall, do you think I can achieve 50 free in less than 40 seconds with a 2 beat kick? I am not a very good kicker so trying to cut short by increasing the stroke rate.

    • @stephanierice-swimming
      @stephanierice-swimming  Рік тому +1

      Yes absolutely!! That will come down to how much power you are generating from your arms. If you can lengthen your stroke and get more power from each arm pull, there’s no reason why you can’t drop your time down
