Pan’s been testing different strategies and events(400m, 800m, etc) to get more comfortable with the short course. No surprise he won 400 m and 800m free considering he was used to be a distance swimmer and won the Chinese national champion at 1500 m free when he was 14/15 back in 2019. For this win, he shortened his underwater kicks and leaned into his powerful, efficient stroke to take the 100m free race. Hopefully, he’ll continue to improve on turns and underwater kicks, with an eye on breaking the short-course world record someday.
@@Ivan-bg1jp Long and short of it (as I explained in more detail in another video, but I don't know which specifically offhand), long and short course refers to the length of a pool of one lap swum, which is divided between 25 meters for a short course and 50 meters for long course. Long course is usually thought as the standard and typically not qualified with a "long course" description. Meanwhile, the short course is more of a side gig, if you will, so sometimes not as considered on the same level of long course. Standard international pool size is the 50 meters. So the Olympics and the main World Championship swimming meets are swum in the long course 50 meters. Short course is supposed to be faster to swim through, as there are more turns and by ratio more underwaters to surface swimming with the actual strokes. Swimmers can go through the water faster with dolphin kicks and push off the wall. So short course world records tends to be faster. Swimmers are allowed to swim underwater for 15 meters before surfacing to swim with the stroke of the event. In a short course, that means the ratio of surface to underwater is 10m to 15m - 60% underwater in a 25-meter pool. Meanwhile, long course pool of 50 meters, the ratio is 35m to 15m or only 30% underwater. Pan's strength is his swimming on top of the water, so long course suits his upper swimming while minimizing the time he has to be underwater. But Pan acknowledges that his weakness is in turns and underwaters, so those sections slow him down. As such in his Incheon 100m swim, he actually swam "slower" than his world record 100m in long course. All the increased turns from the short course has been practice for Pan. He keeps ending those post-race interviews with John Mason of "Stay tuned." I can only imagine what to expect when he irons out all those kinks from the turns and such.
just watched Pan s interview.he so humble.even he already is the WR holder.but when someone ask him“What do you think your advantage?”he said he doesn't have advantage.just swimming over 15000m everyday.😅 he knows which way he has to do more practice and doing very well. actually he come to this game for practice.he's not good at in short course.so this is the best opportunity to let him learn a lot from it. after Olympic.he got too much commercial activities.doesn't even have time for training... well done Pan!!
What's extra interesting about this race - primarily between Pan and Ceccon - is twofold. I haven't compared all of Pan's races, but he appears here to surface after 5 meters while Ceccon stretches out his underwaters to near the 10 meter mark, which means Ceccon gets an advantage there (underwaters are faster than surface swimming from the dolphin kick). Then somewhere around the last 10 meters, as Bobby noted when Ceccon puts his head down, Ceccon didn't breathe at all (I saw one UA-cam commenter say it was 10 strokes but I didn't bother counting). And yet, Pan still outswam Ceccon, which goes to show Pan's strokes (and kicks) are unbeatable (that is, when Pan is on his game).
This UA-cam creator is the best. Very attentive and accommodating to visitors. And generous with her video finds and collection. I tried to direct a visitor at another UA-cam video of a swimming blogger, but evidently he blocked the message. (Then again, UA-cam loves to delete or block my messages - much to my frustration.)
He said in an interview after the game that this result was very average. He was nervous during the game and he was not very satisfied. He also said that he is not very good at turning around and starting off, and there is still a lot of room for improvement.
He's almost too modest to a fault, frequently downplaying his wins (even the 400). But it's good he's honest with himself so as to continuously tweak his techniques and performance. Never rest on his laurels. Thanks for sharing his post-race comments.
Pan’s weakest has always been the turning and underwater portions he isn’t bad but not top tier. He is by far the fastest on top of water so if could improve his underwater he will break his own record soon enough
@@Callmethedrink7 Sets up the anticipation for a sub 46-swim for the 100m, which would be a huge sonic boom to be heard around the world. I hope it will be met with genuine admiration and not question marks (particularly by a formerly Aussie, naturalized US citizen loudmouth). By now, Pan should be more than a known quantity among elite swimmers.
Did he break his own Olympic record of 46.4 here!? And in a pool where there's a lot more turns which apparently he's not as strong at, according to some comments?

Western countries, isn’t it time to bring out your “he used illegal drugs!” tool?

这个视频标题取得很奇怪,首先短池成绩肯定不能排到他长池的sub47里,其次他2022年就能游45.77了,这个成绩他在采访里也不满意
What's this about mentioning Charmers as world record holder and not saying a word about Pan as the GOAT and truly the world record holder?
