Hi Bob you gave me some good advice regarding a reel a little while ago I need a bit more can you tell me why my hook becomes separated from the line which is hook to nylon when I’m removing from fishes mouth I just don’t understand how this can happen can you please advise thank you Bob and good luck with your fishing

Hi. I don't tend to use hooks to nylon preferring to tie eyed hooks either direct to the reel line or to a length of lower breaking strain line looped onto the main line. Hooks to nylon can be of varying quality and you are dependent on that quality for performance. If the hook is coming detached while you are using a disgorger, or after having previously used a disgorger, then it's possible that the disgorger is damaging the whipping that attaches the line to the hook. If it's happening when not using a disgorger then that's a bit more difficult to understand. While I rarely use hooks to nylon I have used Drennan hand tied hooklengths in the recent past and found them to be reliable.

Spade end might be cutting through the line.

Hi bob can you tell me why my float keeps sinking went yesterday on the float says 1 bb which I did but the float kept sinking am I doing something wrong thank you

Hi Robert. It would seem to be quite a light float if it takes just 1BB. Are you using a heavyish bait, such as meat or a big worm? Otherwise is it a type of float that could be absorbing water, such as a varnished type that might not be fully waterproof because of damage or imperfect varnishing. It's difficult to be sure without knowing a bit more about the float, bait etc.

There was no bait on it just the weights and the float

It's possible, of course, that the 1BB float rating wasn't quite correct, or that your 1BB shot was a bit out of spec. i.e. a bit too heavy. Next time try smaller shot and add until you get the right shotting.

The Chubb Stream is the old historic name of this stream, chubb historically being used before the now common name of chub. www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1225113
