I'm grateful that the survivors are brave enough to speak out. No one should ever have to go through these things. Ever.

Thank you for this podcast. This story of egregious abuse is being played out in “churches” everywhere. I’m in the mid-west and I’ve experienced this same scenario from two different churches within a mile from each other. Neither CREC but the same twisted playbook. Thank you Nathan and Christiana for using your voices to speak on behalf of those of us who have been silenced. 💜

wow! shocking testimonies! the very core of a young girl's foundation is having security in their dad and older brothers as a protector and provider, and These ""PIGS" stolen the very deepest part of a child's heart. The damage done will be a lifetime for these precious children. Very strong and courage's women who broke the chain by leaving. Thank you for exposing Darkness, I pray for the Victims!!!!

Sad for the young lady in the beginning that her dad and mom were abusers, but what does this have to do with Doug? He is guilty by proxy?

Which Wilson book teaches dads to shower with daughters?

Joe Biden showered with his daughter. She admitted it to it in her own diary.

Thank you for sharing. The pastor system is inherently abusive because it violates Jesus' teaching in Matthew 23:8-12, where He condemns the elevation of any one person as a spiritual authority over others. By placing one individual at the center of the church’s leadership, the pastor system creates a hierarchy that undermines the biblical concept of the priesthood of all believers. Jesus called for humility, mutual submission, and a community where all members contribute equally, not a system where one person is exalted above others. This concentration of power often leads to manipulation, control, and the suppression of the gifts and contributions of the wider body of Christ.

The sourdough bread part was unhelpful. Doesn't really support your case to bring up petty things like that. The first two gals have very convincing (and heartbreaking testimonies), but Christiana and Nathan just sound like petty outsiders trying to stir up trouble because they disagree with Doug on things like Patriarchy.

It shows the cult like mentality and wanting to fit in. Having an outside perspective is very helpful as they can look at it objectively and show where things are wrong or "off" that you wouldn't see when you are in it.

Actually the sourdough bread tidbit was a seemingly small thing but quite telling. It correlates with my wife's former best friend in a cult like church where customs, interests, hairstyle, and dress were not explicitly mandated but a thick atmosphere of assumed conformity was present. The female pastor/leader had short cut hair, and all the women of the church followed suit. Not because they were instructed to so, rather an unspoken cue of commitment to maintaining a spiritual resemblance.
This can be helpful to listeners who might be in a similar group and wondering about everyone coincidentally looking, acting, or thinking the same ways on things that normally should be inconsequential individual matters of preference.

@@katskillz I don't disagree with that. But those particular guests just came off as particularly mocking and petty.

@@joshirwin5245 Sure, I can see that. It can get tricky when public stories are coming out addressing a widespread problem in a church or community. Obviously, we all need to keep *ourselves* in check when publicly speaking against others, even if the reasons for speaking are wholly justified because of the wrongs and harm done. It's too easy to pile on when its an easy target.
That, I believe, is exactly why Jesus ended his massive sermon on the mount about the ethical behavior in his kingdom - with words of warning against those who would use his teaching as a bludgeoning stick against others. We may be too quick and focused on pointing out the obvious lack of Christian love in others, especially high profile personalities, but we would be very measured and reserved about it if we are to prioritize the logs in our own eyes.
