I really like the planter, Marie. The storage underneath was a great idea. That's usually wasted space. It's also great to see content from you again. Take care. Bill
Great to see the magnets used on the 'secret door'. You could also simply use a washer on one side( screwed or epoxied) for the attraction. Excellent work on all your projects.
Well done Marie, you have come a very long way. I love the trick about how you fixed the polarity of the rare earth magnets. The mark of a true craftsman is the ability to hide your mistakes. But to tell you the truth I haven't seen a single mistake today. 💕
Awesome work, love your detailed plans, we’ll worth the money especially since my bride and I were just talking about building this very design. Thanks for cutting our work in half if not more. 😊
Really quick too build and simple. If you built the long sides like the short sizes and vice versa, maybe there would be more space to put the while puzzle together?
Yes indeed but the storage door would not work that way. EDIT: After some thought I think you're right. Might be a little tight to get the door in though, but could use bigger spacers (cedar legs) on the edge when assembling the large panels and thin (slat) spacers when assembling the short panels.
This is a good idea! I was thinking of downsizing my shed and if i built to planters in front if my shed like this, i can have storage for, fire wood, gas, nails, shovels, outdoor equipment! Not take up no room in the shop! And make everything look nice!
Feel totally inspired to make this. I may have to make a couple of modifications. Will need to find appropriate planters. But that hidden space is def inspired. Are you a carpenter?
That turned out great! It will be nice to have the planter high like that to make it easy to plant, water and care for the flowers or whatever you put in it. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant! Great editing too. I was wondering about drainage for the plants. If the inserts have holes the water will drip down into the storage area. If no holes the planters could fill up with water.
Yes indeed exterior flower boxes should have the drainage holes drilled out (which I will do). Therefore the stuff underneath will likely get wet (even without considering drainage, rain will get through the slats). So that's why I'll only put stuff underneath that can get wet like you see in the video. Nevertheless, I will consider adding a drainage hose to the bottom of the flower boxes to orient most of the water out the back to keep things clean down there. We'll see!
It turned out amazing great idea for the storage. This is something like my niece ask me to build her thanks for the great idea . Keep up the great videos
Have you considered switching the position of the posts, such that the short sides have the post in the corner, and the long sides have the post inset by 2"? Then you'd be screwing through the long-side posts into the short-side posts, giving yourself way more room...
Great video, Marie! GH does have a good point about drainage, though. You could easily fashion a gutter underneath out of a piece of plastic with a U-shaped cross-section.
This one is definitely a banger! I love "secret compartments" and try to incorporate them in my big build/furniture projects lol. Usually a plus with customers. For the magnets, you can always use some sort of metal/steel for the other end to attract the magnet. That way you don't worry about polarities or even misalignment of the magnets. PLUS, you "double up" how many magnets you can now use. Just a thought 😊. Thanks for sharing!
Your efficient designs are always a pleasure to view. I am envious of your ability to use epoxy without gloves; I always end up wearing a lot of it. I'd invite you to Houston for some springtime, but it's already early summer here. Ugh. Great video; thank you for posting!
Again, a wonderfully created video. Simple is always good. Design is great and perfect for a planter garden for limited space or for a small backyard. Looks like the gophers will have a tough time nibbling at those roots. Storage is perfect without creating a larger footprint. Personally we have avoided uses pressure treated lumber when growing vegetable and eatable flowers. But the use of prefabricated growing containers will eliminate soil contact with the pressure treated wood. In addition, our state, CA, and local codes make it difficult and illegal to dispose of pressure treated lumber in the general garbage/composting containers. Another fantastic job Marie.
I really enjoy the look and especially the storage available below because some ppl just don’t have space or room to store soil and extra pots. Super cute, wished I’d seen this a couple years ago when my Gma moved into a nursing home. It would’ve been perfect, I can still use it though
I have been subscribed for a while now and love how clear your videos are. I will be making planters for on the deck with drainage - thanks so much for all of your videos! You have a great looking (garage) shop.
Great video and gloriously simple but attractive design. Lots of comments here about the secret compartment store, and I think it could be modified to take logs being stored to 'season' by fitting a weatherproof membrane beneath the planter base and down the back, (all on the inside of course.) This provides enough weather protection and maintains air flow to dry out logs. Great for a fire pit or a chimenea or even solid fuel stoves. The door could even be removed completely to reveal the stored logs as a feature! Ever thought about fitting small wheels/castors? Im in the UK and will be using 22mm x 100mm Pressure Treated boards for my build but still following your design overall. Thanks
Great video and build. Thanks for sharing the video. I really like that planter box. The hidden storage area is ingenious. Is it necessary to use rare earth magnets as a pair? I mean, one in the frame and one on the "door" on each side? If you can put a metal washer instead of a rare earth magnet, you don't need to glue them. It's possible that you'll need four "connections" in this case, so you won't save money on rare magnets. But sometimes wonders happen and two are enough if you have one "connection" at the left side up, and the second at the right side down.
It looks great only one problem in my eyes when you water the planter at the top because they will have drain holes the storage area with your other stuff will get wet. Apart from that I love it 👍
A pleasure to watch, my only observation would be around adding drainage holes to the boxes and add wheels so that it can be moved easily. But really good otherwise.
I love this it’s perfect! I have a question we put 5 inch hickory flooring in and have 4 piles left and wound love this planter. How do I protect the wood ? Thank you
Please refer to my response to GH: Yes indeed exterior flower boxes should have the drainage holes drilled out (which I will do). I haven’t been able to find the palm driver and covet yours lol I was excited when you said you’d link it but the link you posted doesn’t seem to work. Do you have an updated one? Id be happy to click an affiliate link :)
Canadian link: amzn.to/3N1WEZt US link: amzn.to/38Hs206 Unfortunately seems they are not available right now but keep an eye out on the link or check your local Home Depot.
Instead of connecting two magnets, you can use a magnet and a large washer or a piece of metal. Then you can just use screws and not worry about polarity or glue.
When I build with fence slats they seem to twist or warp over some time. How would anyone deal with that? I built some planter boxes for my wife and they look horrible now. Thanks in advance
Plans available here: www.diymontreal.com/product/planter-box-with-hidden-storage-plans/
Absolutely beautiful work!!
The hidden storage in the bottom is a nice touch. 👍
Thanks!
Dont worryn May will bring spring😂 nice project!
Excellent video 😀
I really like the planter, Marie. The storage underneath was a great idea. That's usually wasted space. It's also great to see content from you again. Take care.
Bill
Thanks Bill!
Wonderful planter idea. Thank you for sharing your awesome project with us today from Henrico County Virginia
Brilliant idea for the storage below and the magnets 👍
Thanks appreciate it
I wish I'd seen this video before I built my version. This is so much more elegant. Love the magnet idea.
Great to see the magnets used on the 'secret door'. You could also simply use a washer on one side( screwed or epoxied) for the attraction.
Excellent work on all your projects.
Nice planter i like the secret storage good idea Marie! Thanks for sharing the video with us!👍💖😎JP

Awesome work, love your detailed plans, we’ll worth the money especially since my bride and I were just talking about building this very design. Thanks for cutting our work in half if not more. 😊
Great project! Kudos from Manitoba!

Pretty cool 😎

Amazing! Just keep in mind it won't be waterproof down there.
LOVE THIS JOINT!! Will simulate this summer
Feel totally inspired to make this. I may have to make a couple of modifications. Will need to find appropriate planters. But that hidden space is def inspired. Are you a carpenter?
Concise and clear! Enjoy your commentary. Thanks for a great vid!
Thank you!
It was the best planter tutorial I have ever seen! Well done!
Wow thank you!
Very nice planter and great video. Thanks for sharing.
Super 👍👍👍😍
That turned out great! It will be nice to have the planter high like that to make it easy to plant, water and care for the flowers or whatever you put in it. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant! Great editing too. I was wondering about drainage for the plants. If the inserts have holes the water will drip down into the storage area. If no holes the planters could fill up with water.
An aluminum tray with a drainage hose installed beneath the planters may solve that issue...Good observation...

I had the same thought about drainage.
Watering can be done with mini oyas which limits, see removes the overflow (waste) of water
Nice job Marie! Yup I agree spring is slow coming this year. From Laval. 😉
Feels like it finally may be here now! Yay!
Love the hidden storage!
Great looking planter box, using the magnets was a brilliant idea no unsightly hinges to be looking at
Exactly! :)
Just grabbed the plans, can’t wait to build a couple of these for this Spring!
Brilliant!
love the hidden storage idea. always need more places to shove all the little pots and accessories that come with gardening
Very nice.
It turned out amazing great idea for the storage. This is something like my niece ask me to build her thanks for the great idea . Keep up the great videos
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the build
belle realisation ,merci marie

That puts another board on the face side. Wouldn’t that look worse ? Plus it’s an excuse to buy a compact driver 😂😂😂
Great video, Marie! GH does have a good point about drainage, though. You could easily fashion a gutter underneath out of a piece of plastic with a U-shaped cross-section.
Absolutely! See my reply to GH. Your suggestion is another good alternative too.
Man consistently cool projects. Thank you.
Love the modified design from your first set of planters. Having the hidden storage in the bottom is a great use of space. Great job as always.
Thank you!

Thanks for the tip! Hadn't thought about that. Easy and cheap solution 👌
A big washer would be perfect. Great idea.
This turned out great. Also gotta say the editing and production are fantastic too
Thank you so much!

Lol x2! Yearning for warmer weather but will likely be cursing the heat and humidity in a few weeks.

your videos are so well edited!
Appreciate it!!!
This is a brilliant build
Super nice! Good job!
You are so creative!
Released in conjunction with the first day we can go out without a jacket, Bravo 👏
lol indeed! Feels nice :)

Thanks! Wish I had thought of the storage idea too for the first 2 of these I made 😅
Thank you
Great build and I really like the hidden storage area!
Great build - thanks for sharing 👍
Great design!!
Yes love it thanks for the video I actually made one a little bit wider to hold my extra propane tank for the grill
Very nice! Love that idea for hidden storage.
Thank you! Plans and video super helpful... just made 4
Great job Marie! I love hidden storage. 🙂
This is great, I'm gonna make it!

So beautiful!
nice work really liked your design
I really like this! I was just thinking about building something similar to that for my sister. Excellent timing.
Good, nice work and good idea
Really beautiful work, Marie! 😃
Brilliant how you made the door!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love this video thank you
A nice addition would have been some wheels for some mobility. Very nice work...Clean and precise...
Sure, always a good option if you plan to move it.
Thanks Marie. Your videos are always practical!
great job
This is a great and creative design. I love the overal look and I'm crazy about the hidden storage compartment. Thanks for sharing the video with us.
Love this! Do the planter inserts drip/leak into the hidden storage area?
Это то что я искал, спасибо большое 👍👍👍🤗

I love love love your channel! You do amazing work and your designs are awesome.
Bonsoir
Super job
Comme d'habitude
Et voilà
I love it!! Congratulations for these great work. It's beautiful and very useful 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks!
Good
Great video and build. Thanks for sharing the video. I really like that planter box. The hidden storage area is ingenious. Is it necessary to use rare earth magnets as a pair?

Indeed others have commented on this. Probably didn't need 4 magnets. Magnets on the door and metal on the adjoining face would have done the trick.
Love your content, it’s so efficient to watch. You even add up your lessons learned along the way without wasting airtime. 👍
It looks great only one problem in my eyes when you water the planter at the top because they will have drain holes the storage area with your other stuff will get wet. Apart from that I love it 👍

quedo genial,
I love this it’s perfect! I have a question we put 5 inch hickory flooring in and have 4 piles left and wound love this planter. How do I protect the wood ? Thank you
What a nice design. Do you also have one for an herb garden/planter? I suppose I should make it squirrel proof.
Sorry, haven't tackled that design yet!
Perfekt 👍
Where did you get the black plastic planter boxes you used as inserts? What brand are they?
Did you consider only having the magnets on one side and using a bit of scrap metal drilled, countersunk and screwed in for the other side?
I did not (maybe because I don't have any scrap metal or the tools to cut it) but that could work I would think.
I do like the hidden screws etc but could you not build the first three walls then add the final wall with all difficult angles for just one side?
Bought the plans and will build two but minus the hidden storage. That Rigid palm driver is not available in the US unfortunately. 😢
Very nice! I always learn something from your videos. What about the finish? Do you leave the wood raw or do you protect it somehow?
I am leaving it raw. I've build a few and the PT wood still looks good after a couple years.
Awesome, I’d make the shelf slatted to drain water though…
Nice work, how do you like the craftsman tools
I gotta admiit I like them! Especially the brad nailer.
Really great planter. Are the plastic planter boxes drained? If they are does the excess water drain down into storage area or to the side?
Please refer to my response to GH:
Yes indeed exterior flower boxes should have the drainage holes drilled out (which I will do). Therefore the stuff underneath will likely get wet (even without considering drainage, rain will get through the slats). Nice. I thought that the plans were free?

Nice looking planter, now my wife wants one. 😑
Oops, sorry! 😆
It's all good.
u could hav counter sink the opp side of the magnet. then u could use screws to hold them in place....peace out
Brilliant!!
