I'm an ST10 Plankowner and remember ORW like it was yesterday. My platoon was in Bosnia when it went down, before heading to Iraq to finish out the deployment. We (ST10) lost 5 team members on the QRF. Four years earlier, I was a NAVET who returned to the teams after 911. I volunteered to go back through SQT, where Mike Murphy was a classmate. Thanks for having this conversation and remembering our fallen brothers. B

The instructors used to make Danny breakdance on the beach while we were getting beat to raise morale. He was the fastest in the class at the O course, which is a pretty big deal in a competitive class of Type A people which included Olympic alternates and NCAA D1 class athletes. He was a standout in BUDs who put a smile on everyone’s face.
I’m a former Army attack helicopter pilot with combat experience, I’ve lost friends…much respect. Later, I was a government counter-drug agent and counter-terrorist. I was taught in those academies that I might know more than you in certain things but you might know more than me in others…No one is better than the other! Great channel brother!

First time hearing from someone who was super close to Danny Dietz. He’s buried at Ft Logan cemetery in Lakewood, CO. He grew up in Littleton and I had read a story about him as a late teen, being a little graffiti artist and running from the cops. He liked to spray paint a “V” where he went, as his nickname was Little Vandal, and there’s a faded V on one of the brick columns at the Littleton cemetery, made by him. I snapped a pic of it a few years back. Erie feeling standing there where a SEAL warrior had once stood, before he became who he was. My heart goes out to Lt Murphy, PO2 Dietz and PO2 Axelson and their families. 🫡 🇺🇸

My Grandfather is buried 2 rows and 2 stones away from danny. Finished read the Lone survivor. June 20th. Went and saw my Gpa and Danny, and i was there on the 40th anniversary of my Gpas death and 1 week from Dannys. Was surreal, and Danny’s grave stood out amongst all the marble Markers. Coins, and flags and rocks on his Tombstone. He was and still is loved
Im so sorry for all the lives lost and I cant imagine what everyone went thru. I have read all of marcus books on this and it is unreal what he went thru. I am so thankful for what every one did and does for our country. Thank you to all that serves.
I used to live in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I didn’t have a car for a period of time and would always walk to the train to go to the barbers. Part of the road to the train station was along a major highway with no sidewalk. It was Danny Dietz memorial highway. I always gave a “nod” when I used to walk by the sign by the tracks. I never knew Mr. Dietz but I always showed my respect every two weeks on that walk, by that memorial sign. Now some time later hearing this story, about that young man. The ultimate respect. 🫡

Man these warriors live a lifetime of emotions in a short oeriod if time. I couldn't be prouder to have these men protect my children and will always be grateful
I never crossed paths with DJ but I heard of him, everything I ever heard was great. I talked to Danny a couple times over In Afghanistan before he died and that’s very true. He was a great guy, always listened to what you had to say. When ORW happened even those of us in the Corp wanted to go after Shaw and make him pay. Losing Danny, Axe, Murph, Skipper, Patton, and all the other guys reverberated loudly through the Navy and Marines.
Horrible for you knowing what could happen or the situation could change by the hour. Sent home by mistake, but was it a mistake? It’s one of those small little miracle as you had Dannys family covered and help out in the grief & care. R.I.P to all the people lost in Operation Red Wings. Nice & touching story ( Thanks For Sharing ) this very powerful and personal story with us 💔🫡

Its unfortunate the internet hasnt removed the videos out of respect for the families but the taliban has videos posted of finding murphys body which is very sad and the short video of when they find danny dietz body is beyond gruesome and horrible its still online. Read danny dietz autopsy and see how many times he was shot and he STILL continued to fight! The only actual sign of some respect is when the Taliban take Murphy gear and one fighter starts kicking him and mocking him and a senior Taliban leader pushes him and says do not disrespect a deceased soldier in Arabic yells at him. But before you get to the graphic parts of the long video you can hear gunfire and Murphy screaming Marcus Marcus Marcus so loud its heartbreaking 💔😞

It's crazy to hear how seals and non military talk about operation red wings ect then guys from green berets, delta, rangers ect all crap on seals in general and use red wings, task force bruiser, Robert's ridge and say how tactically bad they are, how they're the worst special operations force, the navy doesn't have a ground fighting force so it isn't surprising ect .. that being said I thank everyone for their service and sacrifice & for being able to hear this side of it. May they Rest in Peace 🙏

Hearing this story about Red Wing reminds me of a story that our son-in-law talked about. His Ranger team was deployed first team on Red Wing recovery. A day into recovery, a young goat herder told them about an American in his village; he said when they came into the small village, not knowing that Luttrell was on the other side of the door, that it shocked the crap out of them. The next couple of weeks he and his team spent on that hill recovering selfless men. He commented that that was one of his worst missions. Stay Christ curious, y'all.
I couldn't imagine serving with these men then delivering the message to the families, I'm sure deployment and training didn't prepare you for that mission.
So true…. I found in a similar situation that we didn’t speak for almost 3 days. I was just there. Just in case. Sometimes that’s all they need. What a tragic loss for everyone. Those he knew and all those he has not met yet 😞
After serving late 80s early 90s and then resuming life as civilian I watched as the appearant righteousness of our foreign policy lapsed into ambiguity. The stories of these lions and otherworldly heros definitely helps to seam together the actual and intentional mighty acts of the willing, able, virtuous warriors with the glorious freedom that America once championed above all else so that the torch of lady liberty would be the pure light that was the impetus for her creation and a beacon for the peace we fought for and hoped would remain as our foundation.
I would like to hear him (or other SEALs) discuss how ML reportedly "gave up" during the gunfight (ML words, not mine) and how SEALs feel it affected the narrative and the lives of other SEALs there on Redwings. Can we hear about that?

No… They got tracked on infill and the Taliban had about 20 people in a 3 pronged ambush postion on top of the mountain waiting for them… They had light machine guns and RPGs… Like shooting fish in a barrel those guys never stood a chance it’s why Marcus ran like a little girl throwing his weapon down…

Erik died on the chopper with the QRF that was sent In to rescue Murphy, Danny, axe and Marcus, there was 16 total on that Chinook, they had the ramp down getting ready to rope in and a rpg round went through the open ramp and exploded inside the chopper and brought it down

The local VFW just honored Danny Dietz in July.
They did him wrong in the movie , he was the only one with a deployment in all of them and they made him disoriented , disgraceful
