Shawn , these guys were set up after Osama. There’s no reason they should’ve had it no escort and there’s definitely no reason some idiot on the ground shot them out of the air with a fucking RPG that fails 90% of the time there’s no fucking way dude they were set up andto talk to and figure out who is that and what they saw because I guarantee you would bin Laden and extortion have everything to do with each other
Dear Ryan, there is a clear scam showing up as a top comment, can you please delete this person and report the chain. Seems a disgrace to the memory of these soldiers to have that nonsense exploit their memories.
I have suspicion that the guy that Identified the rage problem for Brad Geary was Terence Patstone.
@@jamesdykes517lol that’s his channel posting that. It’s for his patreon. Not a scam
imagine if this was now "what do we value as americans" ugh wokeness and supporting gangsters?
As a Vet I've got to say this interview is one of the most pointed I've watched. Once again this show continues to deliver
poignant, not pointed, damned autocorrect

He described war as "virtuous" and talked about the "ethical boundaries," now I have to look up the damn definition of poignant, I guess!😂😂😂
Having a son who did 3 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan who is no longer with us I feel his pain and rage.
Damn sorry to hear that. Did he take his own life? Suicides with veterans is crazy high.
@@LP3me His demons were stronger than he was…….sad end for a kid with TBI and a Bronze Star with a V device. I think of him every day.
@@keithdaniels5918 damn, bronze star? Must have been through some crap. I’m a veteran also. So sorry for your loss. Take care.
@@LP3me Marine vet myself….thanks….you too.
@@keithdaniels5918 wow, was he a marine? My dad was Army Infantry, so I went army infantry also. My dad wasn’t involved with my life while deployed or in the Army, then he had a brain injury so he hardly knows who I am. Thought I was making him proud by serving but he was never there to see me come home or was involved in anyway. Hopefully your son felt your presence while he was in.
This man could be the voice for Master Chief
Steve Downes who is the current voice is getting pretty old. Would be pretty cool. As a Halo fan I fully support it.
Dont need ex feds who blasted goat farmers voicing my chief @rabble_rousdower
At 6:32 ... "their wounds were so bad they had to go to heaven to get fixed". I lost it on that one.
That hit me so hard 😢
Yeah that was deep.
Same!😢
that one caught me too! USCG Veteran! Met a few SEALs during my time in the service, they are a different breed for sure!
Oh my God...... God Bless her....
Shawn's gift for letting people talk is a MAJOR attribute that contributes to this show's success along of course with the selection of the guests which is THE BEST on the Internet! 👍❤️
Seriously. I think that and the studio looks very comfortable. The production is just great.
Agreed ! The amount of interest and respect he shows his guest is unbelievable . When he does speak he makes it count!
Well said, strongly agree
"31 Americans including Burt the Dog" Loved that.
"Their boo boos was so bad they had to go to heaven to get fixed .."
I fucking lost it it at that line...
Mr Geary, thankyou for your service and know your wife is a saint! The story about your daughter hit me as I was the 10yr old boy when my dad was in Vietnam. The body counts every night on the news. My dads friends being killed, my best friends brother.. my mom did a pretty good job of shielding us unless the news happened to be on. God bless
It is difficult to say, but with a channel with so many excellent interviews, this is at the top with the best of them. This man is very articulate with a subject that is nearly unspeakable. Our debt to him and many others could never be properly repaid.
Reverence, Awe, and Respect.
“ nothing but a heat spot”
Gut wrenching
“Half drank cups of coffee “
Like a freeze frame of time
Like Mike Ritland describing his duties after the USS Cole attack. Mike and his Dudes had to sleep in the dead sailors bunks.
@@hamsandwhich666 that interview on SRS was another great one with mike ritland.
Thank you for sharing and making us the average citizen aware of these stories. We owe all our military members and families so much. We are so thankful and should honor them whenever and wherever. Also we need to constantly pray for them.
Absolutely..we need to know these things and carry in our heart the people that live through these experiences and loses.
This brought tears to my eyes and I am a trauma therapist for veterans. I am also a STA Marine. I have heard stories like this a fair amount of times. Guys carrying 6 of their friends in pieces etc… It does lead to rage so often. This contained rage. a friend from high school in the Marines was killed in front of me. That was enough for me to retreat with in and bull this rage. These men who lost half their unit at once??? The strength it takes to not only deal but then to get help. The humility. You have to get help. The only way I have seen is to process the worst of it. The right therapists are out there. You deserve the help… all the help in the world. Semper Fi.
You can see how hard the "half drank cups of coffee" hit Shawn, heartbreaking ☘️
I have goosebumps listening to this story even though I’ve heard it many times. RIP to those heroes.
Every time you drop a new video it just 100% CONFIRMS that this is THE BEST show on the Internet!!!! 👍👍❤️❤️
I can't even imagine what this was like for their friends that survived. They actually took this mission from is that night. We were supposed to be the ones supporting the Rangers thar night. They happened to "be on the FOB for the night and were bored," so they told us they would take the mission and we could have the night off. They got on the birds, and we went back to sleep.
My rage is against the government. Because they wouldn’t let us do what was Militarily necessary to get the job done. The politicians that didn’t have any Military experience called the shots and tied our hands. It’s been 51 years and I still get very angry thinking about the loss that shouldn’t have happened
You should be mad because we were ever there in the first place. They set you up and set our country up. You’re mad they wouldn’t let you do what you needed to but they lied and created the circumstances that “justified” going over there in the first place smh
I feel your anger!!! 😡🤬
Although my 20-year old rage is not as old as your rage, and comes from a different set of circumstances, I understand completely. While people I served with wear bracelets bearing the names of some of our buddies that didn't come home, I wear one for a civilian family of nationals that the government denies we dropped ordinance on, and that we absolutely didn't spend hours digging through rubble and putting what was left of them in black bags. My rage is because PR and optics take precedence over honesty and integrity to those who have the luxury of making the calls from behind Stateside desks and aren't on the ground walking the walk.
25 year US Navy Corpsman…You are 100% correct.
it's kind of like non-gun people telling gun people what they should do. thanks you.
All branches must address this psychologically issues for our members coming back from these war horrors.
globalists don’t care and they never will. They wage war and make money. We die, or live to see another day, poor and broken inside. It continues today.

His wife essentially told him:
“With your shield, or on it.”
No Retreat.
No Surrender.
Dude got that alpha voice lol
Dealing with PTSD myself it’s good to hear these guys talk about their experiences. I have to say that’s one thing that really helped me a lot over the years. God bless you guys.
Will be praying for you brother, thank you for your service!
Agreed! Talking to people that get it helps!
Agree 100%… my wife heard this clip playing and stopped to listen. Stay strong 💪
Same. Been dealing with PTSD for 20 years but each guests helps me understand and process "my thing".
Same here Brother 🫡
Whether it's a blessing or a curse, I've always been able to lock things away in my heart and mind to the point they aren't gone, but not there. I can't imagine having to deal with such things.
Absolutely incredible. Thank you for sharing Sir!
That is the side of war that nobody talks about. I appreciate this story so so much.
Anger is like taking a poison pill and expecting it to hurt someone else. Dang that's a man that has been to the deepest part of hell that very few folks will ever see. Any one of 10 things could have broke his spirit and iron will and rightfully so. Its like he said to himself I may fall apart tomorrow but I will be damned if I fall apart today
Wow! I believe this guys wife is evey bit the warrior he is. I'm glad I was alone in the barn cleaning stalls when he said she wasn't entitled to ask those questions. I launched a stall fork down the shed row and yelled the fuck she isn't entitled. Glad he back tracked that or I would still be spitting mad. The marriages that survive that kind of service take two equally strong in mind body and soul people. Again you bring amazing people to light. Thank you.
This man is inspiring on a level I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced before.
His level of self awareness and his ability to take reciprocal course and see his own shortcomings is really making me second guess some of my own decision making in the last year or so with regard to alienating some of my family members as well.
I hope you have some more clips with this man sharing more of his intense dissemination of events that lead him to be able to deal with his demons.
I am awestruck with his attitude, his leadership style and his eloquent speech on a level that I think is severely lacking from upper echelon officers across all branches of service.
This man deserves accolades that I don’t think exist at this point in time to recognize his humility and devotion to his fellow man, family and the individuals that we served for.
My condolences to the men and service dog that were lost in Extortion 17, having been a fleet sailor many years prior, I only experienced death of somewhat similar magnitude at the bombing of the USS Cole in Aden, Yemen, and have had much lesser experiences up until the end of my service that I still have issues compartmentalizing to this day.

Eloquent & very well put
I saw 3 iron red butterfly’s today in the red Smokey creek mountains in Paul villa incorporated in South Dakota yesterday! Awesome!
Shawn....I can't even articulate how your program and guest has helped me understand and move towards mitigation & healing regarding the the loss, emotional toll & wounds experienced in combat. Mahalo's and Aloha Always brah!...Semper Fi
Kanaka Pride 🤙 bruddah
A Hui Hou
His voice is epic.
I know the feeling of rage, my baby daughter died as a newborn last year. I haven't been able to make sense of it nor accept that it was God's will even though I'm a Christian.
Finally. I have been looking for videos of these guys for someone who speaks about Jonas Kelsall. The commander of the unit. He must have been so gifted. I want stories about him. How awesome he was.
You are lucky to call him your friend. And he is lucky to call you his friend. Thank you for your service and for sharing a little bit about him.
Just fascinating… Thank you to both of you 🙏🏻
What a hard thing to go through. Thank you both for your exceptional service
Your wife is a warrior. Much respect.
Amazingly, insightful interview. One of the best shows yet. Thank you.
Bro he's really an incredible communicator. These guys are executive level every time. It's incredible.
Because of old men who know each other, young men that don't know each other are killing each other... 🤔
3:46 he had been so stoic up until this point in the whole interview, but that small voice crack as hes recounting the story tells more then any words could
Every time I see the story it breaks my heart. I did a total of 25 months in Vietnam in the years 65, 66 and 67. I was a corpsman and felt every death of a friend and team mate. The desire for revenge was not always kept in check… no civilians were hurt.
Bankers wars.
God Bless Captain Geary, his family and all of his amazing fellow Team Members.
Thanks for doing all these interviews and getting these stories out there.
GOD BLESS YOU CAPTAIN GEARY ........................
It takes TWO very mature adults to be married and make it work in a combat unit, let alone an administration unit. Constant deployments, heavy toll and mental stress on both sides. I saw so many divorces in just four years in the Marines, these men are special and so are the wives!
It amazes me how articulate and well spoken is Captain Geary. A great interview.
Hearing this gut talk gave me goosebumps. He perfectly encapsulates the massive devastation then also to hear him say "we wanted to let it off the leash", you can look directly into his eyes and know EXACTLY the level of hell they were willing and able to bring. This is what I will always respect and love about these men. There is no group on earth that I have more respect for!!!
8:54 "How do you lead that, when you see it in yourself?" That's heavy going
Thanks for letting me be a 'fly on the wall.' I've always wanted to be in on this calibre of conversation.
What a chilling encounter!
I think I was in Basra when that happened. The way Capt. Geary relates it reminds me f my friend's telling about his first day in Nam. Their Recon platoon of 53 all perished except for three when a '46' was shot down, then it got worse.
Probably the most real, raw, brutal and well articulated interview I have ever seen. Shawn you bring on the best guests and each time I learn more and more about a world I though I knew but I didn't see half of what these individuals went through. Thank you for sharing these intimate moments and interviews with all of us.
When he talks about it feels like they could walk in the door any moment, you know that feeling he is talking about but don’t at the same time. Very interesting perspective
On 6 August 2011, a U.S. Boeing CH-47 Chinook military helicopter code name Extortion17 was shot down while transporting a quick reaction force attempting to reinforce an engaged unit of Army Rangers in Wardak province, west of Kabul, Afghanistan. The resulting crash killed all 38 people on board-25 American special operations personnel, five United States Army National Guard and Army Reserve crewmen, seven Afghan commandos, and one Afghan interpreter-as well as a U.S. military working dog. It is considered the worst loss of U.S. Military life in a single incident in the Afghanistan campaign.
Damn. Had been a long time since I've cried watching a UA-cam video.
You do great work Mr. Ryan! How you have had true war fighters and great souls, relating the real. Much respect and many thanks for what you have been able to bring to those that weren't there or never heard/lived the experiences you have posted. Much love!
The character of this man and his teammates. Thank you, God bless you.
Dear God this man has the heart of a lion to tell these stories. I could never think of being this strong in the face of such a loss.
God bless him. At times service is frustrating, dangerous and difficult. RIP to all those brothers we lost. He's right it's tempting to get caught up in the fervor of the moment. During times like this especially in leadership roles where people are looking to you for that nod.. it takes some careful thought to not lead people into being statistics themselves, because of anger. One thing I know for sure, after doing some special airlift missions and around some UDT 11 and Seal team members during my service, no other humans have, or will impress me more. I do not believe there are any perfect humans, but if I was to die i wanted it to be with them. Long ago now, I cherish the memories. I was fortunate to have known such fine men.🇱🇷💯💪
They will never be forgotten. I remember crying on the couch hearing when it happened. I did jujitsu with them all of the time and worked out with them almost daily. Then I was told the details of it all by my pilots and crew chiefs and later read the report.... I'll say this... there is a reason 160th is requested and not any other helicopter unit.
I really hate even seeing extortion 17 written..I was apart of the 10th MTN unit that was battalion QRF that evening when the bird was shot down.. we reacted, pushed in, recovered the remains, brought them back to sayad abad and than transferred the remains into body bags and into a ch47 to go and be separated to bring something home to their families… its a smell I’ll never forget, body parts everywhere, I’m sorry it happened, I’m sorry for the loss, it’s all around just horrible. RIP❤
I'll never forget the smell either. That night haunts me.
@@shiner254it’s hard to think 8-10 taliban was able to kill 3 frogman and another group of 17 on a chopper.
This guy is either one of the greatest actors ever or the most sincere, controlled and collected guy I've listened to in recent memory.
Hey Shawn I just respect the way you handle these warriors you get to speak with you listen and let them tell their stories your show is really great man! Thank you
The movie “We were Soldiers” shows this trauma very well, of how military spouses, THE OTHER WAR FIGHTERS, unite and carry the Western Union letters. This man’s Wife is a saint!
Man Shawn this interview was fantastic brother!!! Captain Gary seems like a man I would follow into hell. Impressive isn’t even close to how this man came across as I was watching your interview. Just knocked it out of the park. I remember when that broke on the news losing all those guys and that Chinook. My heart sank actually. My dad flew Apache and cobras and was recruited by 160 sore back in the 80s I believe and turned it down and I got to work with them at Fort Campbell when I worked with Raytheon so the special forces community has a mass place in my heart. up to your conversion and coming to faith in Jesus. I freaking love that so much.!!! It’s an awesome life. The great.Keep the great interviews coming brother!
Amazing, “”they went to heaven to get fixed”
War is a racket
Absolutely, to make politicians rich at the expense of service members
They bring the hell and believe in heaven 😢
@@davidendsley2391it’s really tiring hearing that narrative. If that’s what you believe, it’s probably better to keep that to yourself on a channel filled with veterans.

I was out in Afghsnistan in 2011. That crash happened the day after my birthday. I remember that so clear when that news made it down to Kandahar. 12:58 from what he said is the very thing that made me a single man once again dealing with all the anger and emotions. Them leaving very much forced me to deal with my reality seeking VA help. It was a tough beginning to 2024 for sure.
Awesome interview - great job Shawn
This guy has a perfect voice for the movie theater previews they used to do. Or a documentary or book on tape narration
Having never been in combat I cannot begin to imagine what they go through. At 82 and having been a technician I realize that I am blessed.
Thank you for sharing sir. Insane how we keep hearing the same stories from comrades… grief is powerful enough to rattle and change the very foundation of your personhood… I hope you find the peace you seek
We need our communities. More than ever.
"It's Everybody..." Damn.
Thank you for showing this side of the battlefield.
Powerful testimony. Righteous guy.
In this business, we always expect the occasional empty chair, but we never expect all the chairs to be empty.
Shawn I can like and subscribe all day any day, but to comment is very hard because I have no frame of reference for the amazing trials and horrors that you gentlemen have been through all I can say is thank you & God bless, and I am so glad you’re all still with us.
"War is Hell."
love what you do brother it helps get the actual truth about what you guys have to put up with when dealing with our fucked up government
there's a lot to unpack from this short segment, a lot that speaks to warfighters even outside of SOF. and dependents.
Having a 3rd of your command going out on the same mission sounds like they wanted revenge.
The fact that they all died for nothing makes me sick…. They died for Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed/Martin, Grumman, Harris, et al. “There’s nothing virtuous about this anymore…” exactly brother.
They got set up the corrupt politicians wanted them dead
Ridiculous assertions. These were volunteers who knew exactly what was going on and why. The anger should be directed to the decision makers in the Pentagon and the current regime, not the weapons makers.
A society in denial...! You still don't get it ? The bozos in the senate are prostitutes for the Neocon warmongers! In the past, before cable TV etc....real change required a revolution. But the ordinary folk of today are distracted by 24/7 reality TV garbage. So that they don't revolt. & So, they follow like dumb ass sheep.

Very heartfelt interview.
Thank you for your service.
The amount of unseen, but felt emotion in this video is sobering.
I was there for the retrieval of the heroes and the equipment in Tangi. Absolutely unreal. I’m not a date or anniversary person but I always feel strange when August 6th comes. When we made it back to our tent, yahoo and other outlets already ran the story with a map of where the site was while we were there. God Bless all those guys
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for sharing this incredible story
Good day, Mr. Ryan. I think it would be nice if after interviews like this, you could name the number of the Veteran’s hotline. I’m Canadian, I don’t know if there is a 24/7 national hotline in the U.S. of A. To all those who are shaken by this interview, do not forget that someone somewhere can understand you and be at your side. Peace
Thank you for your service and all else who defended our Nation and those who died for our Freedom!!!!
WOW - I enjoy your vidoes, but this one might take the cake. Thank Captain Geary for his time, honesty and motivation.
Dang Shawn, you have again elicited gut wrenching and vivid explanations for our warriors reaction to trauma..well done sir!!

Absolutely incredible interview!!! NEVER FORGET, EXTORTION 17!!!
This was tough to listen to. God bless the men and women that fought for our country and the families. I can’t begin to imagine all the crazy stories that went untold. The honor, bravery, and courage that never made the headlines
How could he possibly articulate this without crying is way beyond me
Their boo boos were so bad they had to go to heaven to get fixed!!! I've never heard it put better than that!!!Thank you.
I felt that ghosts piece. 7 years in that community the guys I want to talk to the most aren’t around anymore. Maybe some others are off doing that stuff still so it’s not like they answer the phone.
Having memories where several of of. Or all the people involved are gone, makes you feel a little bit crazy not knowing if you are the only one on earth who remembers any of it
