I deployed with CJSOTF-A the rotation after Operation Red Wings happened. I do remember that after casualties take place, they put all comms on lockdown. Another great show. The SEAL in this episode was one of the instructors in a series on Discovery channel called The Selection aired about about 6 - 7 yrs ago
@@MrD1981 your thinking of the documentary. He was in a different show. It was about civilians going thru a fictional selection process that was a hodgepodge of things different branches do for selection. Q course, rasp, indoc, buds etc. Obviously not anywhere near what real selection is like but it was just a show.
Some new information just came out courtesy of the Antihero podcast. Apparently theres a drone feed of Marcus running away the whole time. When they found Matthew's body it looked like he had only been gone 1 or 2 days. This was 8 days after the fight. There was knowledge that SA-7 heat seeking missiles were in the area and thats likely what hit the helicopter. Very interesting stuff revealed by a former Seal.
Honestly I’ve alway had doubts about Marcus something never seemed right but neither does any Hollywood story around military and spying topics but if axle was alive on that mountain when Marcus was hiding in that hut he needs to be brought up and tried for desertion especially given his role in slowing down rescue operations saying everyone was dead (and yes I know the full penalty that a deserter can face when charged with it in a war zone) he admitted to deserting on national tv when he said he heard Murphy calling for him and he bolted
Luttrell was forced into the decision to save face on seals and the motto. Never leave a man behind. He ran while his buddies called for help. Nobody can tell you how it feels to go through what they do. But they shouldn't glorify that. But learn from it. Learn from the failures that day. The sa7 really gets me...
Great interview, seeing that you guys do in fact still have normal human emotions is always a plus. Imo seeing the guest operator(s) name in the header or description would be helpful for us viewers.
My old CSM and 1SG were there part of 160th. The chinook that went down, my CSM at the very least [never spoke to my former 1SG about it] knew everyone by name on that aircraft. One of the saddest days for SOAR and America when this happened.
Damn right whole thing is a big farce man. The actual book was written while Marcus was actively deployed. So many lies, so much propaganda. Blaming innocent goat herders for costly mistakes that SEALs made. Begging to be able to commit war crimes
Seems like they got dumpstered by about 8 tali and then made up a load of bullshit about a protracted firefight, the timings of communications just doesn't make sense otherwise.
@@JackHGUKyeah I don’t blame Marcus for running, he was fresh into gunfights, I believe he said it was his first one. I’m mad about the fact he lied to save his dignity, and lied to the families
@@Khvg-e4lI do if axel died because he deserted his team then lied about everyone being dead on the hill behind him he deserves to be brought up for deserting in a war zone especially if there’s a predator feed of it the admin on national tv is one thing hard evidence is another
I went through that same phase as infantryman, where something really shitty happened during deployment and I had to realize that I'm not invulnerable and that really bad things can happen.
I would love to see an interview of Matt Axleson’s older brother. Would love to hear what he was going through at the time of Redwings. It was three days after Matt’s birthday the day Matt died.
@@scottcoulter2751 Marcus's story makes no sense, has errors, flat out lies, and the navy commissioned a author to write the book to cover their asses
Watched a good documentary, called '' The Lone survivor, the real story''. Luttrell set his Lawyers onto Gulab because he dared to question the honesty of Luttrells Hollywood story.
Unless you were there, I would hold up questioning anything or believing anything not told by the ONLY PERSON ALIVE THAT WAS THERE. There’s tons of jealous mofo’s that talk about this on podcasts even today all these years later that nit pick every detail the only peoblwm is they WERE NOT THERE!
@jeremyfortune7274 the thing is, Marcus said (it's on video) he threw his weapon down and ditched his buddies, he's a coward. The other guy Gulab scoffs at the books claims...it's clear what happened. They got spanked by the Taliban, and the USA couldn't let the truth out. I'd have more respect for Marcus if he just owned it instead of lying. I don't believe a word out of the mans mouth. Its clear that the SEAL teams are not even on par with British Para or Royal Marine Commandos. Maybe SEAL team 6, bit other than that. Total BS
@@jeremyfortune7274 Precisely. Seems like a lot jealous warriors who couldn’t cut BUD/S and become SEALS and instead start these asinine rumors that serve only to besmirch the reputation of a true warrior. When you ask them to provide proof to back up their assertions all you get are crickets.
You guys are the closest thing we have to Super Men, what you do is a big reason we still speak English on American soil. My great uncle Karlon is one of the men standing the flag up on Iwo Jima, I’m also a Navy brat born on Great Lakes Naval base, raised in Texas. So I know a little bit about what our great men and women leave out there for us, Love you guys and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
The many brave men who landed in Normandy on June 6 of 1944 plus the millions of Russians on the east flank are the main reason we're not speaking German. Unfortunately the history books in America ignore the valiant effort of the Russians.
I still find it amazing that nobody mentions MAJ Steve Reich of the 160th. He was one of my LTs and not mentioned in the movie and the vast majority of discussions on this mission. Look him up. Great guy, pitcher, soldier.
The coin toss reminds me of the 1959 WDP involving musicians Tommy Allsup and Ritchie Valens on who was gonna fly to the next gig instead of taking the bus.
It's humbling to hear what these guys go through. God bless warriors like these putting everything on the line. I had a friend involved but never asked him any questions out of respect for him and his team. I'm nobody and had no right to ask anything because I don't know the story. These guys deal with hell on earth while politicians in Washington don't even remember and continue to stir the pot over there. I pray these kinda guys don't have to live through another one of Washington's forever wars. 🙏
All of the training in the world, all of the high tech gear in the world and some kid with an AK or an RPG can take out a few of the best of the best or down a chopper full of the best of the best, this is war! God Bless our Patriots and their families for all they sacrifice FOR US!
I remember asking a dev guy I took a class from what was the truth about RW He said those dudes were advised by a tier one command it’s not a good op and that they shouldn’t go. They decided to go anyway. And there are sops in order so you don’t have to take a vote. And leaving a rope cut from the chopper by the crew was mission compromised from the get go. But they kept going anyway. Anything else you’d have to get from Marcus…that’s what he told me
The fact that Marcus was able to like be up and actually talk about things is mindblowing. He was injured like really really bad. Having that brotherhood helps
Iv seen lone survivor. Buy I'm sure it was much worse in real life. The taliban really let those seals have it that day. Marcus's brother Morgan actually is in congress and he is a big proponent for border funding and security. And he's also for designating Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations

6:24 "thought I was superman" guess what, the rangers all said that in 1993 and then saw SEAL Earl Fillmore get killed on October 3,1993 known as Blackhawk down and they said "wow we're not superman." It's on the history program of Blackhawk down (not the pbs) show
I love Shawn and the podcast I see all these other videos talking about the validity in some of the more famous stories I wish more people would come forward and corroborate publicly or denounce the stories
It’s great hearing someone who seen Marc after and witnessed all his injuries when all these haters saying he got out unscathed and abandoned his team!
Yes he was scratched up from evading. He "Latrell" mentioned in an interview he bolted even as his teammate was asking for help. That is desertion. On his first OP he left his mates. Sure some may have already been killed but we know Axle lived and made it to the Rally point, but died from his wounds 7 or 8 days after the fighting. They delayed going in due to Latrell saying they were all dead. Saving face is all I hear now. The after action reports are sealed, but a few honorable soldiers have related it is hard to have a firefight with 20 or 30 enemy but return with full mags. HE walked onto the rescue vehicle. The findings there were 5 to 8 enemy. With Latrell deserting ... he could have made the difference in one or two of his mates lives if he did not cowardly run off. Scrapped himself up bad running with the fear and guilt. The look on his face when he tells the story is not PTSD. It is guilt .. lies ... cowardly actions. Sure that is a part of PTSD. The guilt we put on ourselves of surviving when others do not. Things that have to be done. HE did not have to run like a coward, but he did. The military could not have a Lone Survivor Coward so it was changed to Lone Survivor Hero. Many that have interviewed him seem to not want to hear the truth and then have to back peddle.
SHAWN! Get some British special forces on!!! 1- CRAIG HARRISON 2- DAVE RADBAND Those two particularly! EXTRODINARY guys and unbelivable storys!!! Hardest guys alive!
The whole “tip of the spear” status is disintegrating before our very eyes. So much coverup, so much lying, so much spin, so many book deals, and screenplays and speaking engagements … can’t the military force these guys to sign a contract stating they will keep their mouths’ shut?
I Served from 1983-89 and back then there were Non-Disclosures. If you spoke of anything you did publicly, you could be disavowed or worse. I wasn't with the Teams, but I was in a Rate that encountered them regularly.
It’s sad to hear him talk about much empathy he had for Marcus because he didn’t know that he ran without ever firing a shot, leaving his teammates to die.
@@johnnyfamous Yes I have, I am retired military and I’ve done 9 deployments. What exactly does that have to do with me, pointing out the fact that Marcus ran and never fired a shot, leaving his teammates to die while they screamed his name and begged him to come back and fight? Before you say anything, it’s all on film so there’s no denying it. The Taliban filmed every minute of it and it’s easily found via Google and then the Rangers that rescued him have all confirmed that there was not a single round missing from his magazine. Again, that can be found here on UA-cam and or Google. With all that being said, I still personally would not have judged him for being scared had he not made a movie claiming a very different story.
@@shanecrocker3629 just checkin, I don't judge. He does seem very over bearing in his interviews and if he did leave his buddies he should have his trident taken from him. I only asked because I think the only people with any right to rag on anybodies actions in combat are combat veterans. Wasn't trying to challenge you but man are there a lot of internet "operators" who love to trash our service men when they did nothing. 9 deployments is too much bud haha but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
@@johnnyfamous no offense take bro. You are correct. I see so many people trashing us and it does get infuriating because most of them never had the balls to do what we did.
We all know why. Shawn most likely start to learn the details of it. There was a very early “podcast” of him, Rob O’Neil, and Marcus sitting by a fire talking though do “technically” he’s been on
Marines, first ones in last ones out… I respect their commitment, Seal or not. But Seals have that tactical and physiological superiority… My favorite uncle was a Green Beret, special forces… he pushed me as a child to have more physical endurance… unfortunately, he became a private contractor and his tank went over a land mind while he was training soldiers… thank you to all our military members for your time served 🙏❤
@@Leperboy Chapman was attached to a SEAL team trying to rescue Neil Roberts on Takur Ghar. Chapman was inadvertently left behind when the team exfiled because they thought he was dead. When drone footage analysis revealed that he revived and continued fighting, including engaging Taliban, the USAF wanted to upgrade his Air Force Cross to the Medal of Honor. The Navy actively tried to stop the award because they didn’t want to acknowledge that he was left behind. It was more important to preserve the SEAL brand. Shameful, especially because Chapman was credited with saving the entire team.

The seal is Marcus Capone Devgru blue squadron and he wasn’t in the buds 234 documentary dude if that’s the one your talking about?
@@MrD1981 your thinking of the documentary. He was in a different show.
I heard that. Don’t know the truth of the matter but The Antihero Podcast is underrated IMO.
Saw that too, I knew Kyle and that jocko guy were bags of shit but I was surprised by Luttrell.
And zero evidence of any enemy KIA, and Marcus was found with full mags.
Thank you both for your service.
Great interview, seeing that you guys do in fact still have normal human emotions is always a plus. Imo seeing the guest operator(s) name in the header or description would be helpful for us viewers.
Great podcast. We took the fight to them bigtime not long after and pasted them daily together side by side. Vet from UK
A reconnaissance mission given to a Seal Team that knew nothing about reconnaissance. Complete failure that could have been avoided.
My old CSM and 1SG were there part of 160th. The chinook that went down, my CSM at the very least [never spoke to my former 1SG about it] knew everyone by name on that aircraft. One of the saddest days for SOAR and America when this happened.
I enjoy your interviews.
Thank you.

I want Shawn to interview Shawn. I would like to hear his stories too
The government would not allow the real truth on what actually happened in either the book or movie the public will never know whole truth

Total BS

AMAZING 👏
All his mags were full and he admitted to freezing up. It's not hating its just what happened.
All of the 4 man team was found with almost full mags.

@@Leperboy Chapman was attached to a SEAL team trying to rescue Neil Roberts on Takur Ghar. Chapman was inadvertently left behind when the team exfiled because they thought he was dead.
