I cannot thank you enough for recommending the CeraVe SA cleanser, I use it in combination with their SA face lotion and it has done wonders for my skin. All my cystic acne and clogged pores are gone and my face feels like it did before I ever hit puberty. I cannot afford to see a dermatologist so your videos have been a life saver for me. Thank you for your time and energy 💕

Did your skin go through a purge process ? My husband suffers cystic acne and anytime he uses something new to sets off the same area each time. He tried cerave moisturizer and within two uses it caused flare up, for me I'm acne prone but no issues. He doesn't want to try anything else now but I know using a salicylic acid cleanser would help long term with cleaning the pores so he won't get flare ups.

Jillian Allen I heard that zea mays is comedogenic. The SA cleanser contains zea mays so I want to try it out but I’m scared it’ll clog my pores.

You’re so knowledgeable, Dr. Dray! My skin has improved significantly since watching your vlogs. Love them! I don’t trust any skincare gurus on UA-cam now, lol. Also, you’re going to save me a lot of money as I have a history of being a skincare junkie.
I just wish Canadian drugstores sold more fragrance free SA cleansers. The first 3 products you mentioned aren’t sold anywhere in Canada. Argh...
Anyway, thanks for all your tips!

I hope that Dr. Dray and her viewers will get my point, I want to mention one story that popped up in my UA-cam videos. It is about British, 24 years old girl who is going through cancer battle since she was 17. It was melanoma, and it spread through many parts of her body since. For whatever reason it wasn't dealt with properly, is my guess. Her name and the channel is Emily Hayward. She has the most beautiful laughter, energy, mindset. With her loving girlfriend (now wife!) Aisha, both families, friends and medical practitioners she has amazing support. Her young life and difficult struggle are just one of many. We all have some Emily as sisters, wives, daughters, friends and we should spread the awareness of the skin protection and visits to dermatologists as soon as we notice something unusual. This is not one gender issue of course. Dr. Dray is constantly reminding us of that and I am just adding to that support with real, ongoing, one of many, life stories that, most probably could be if not prevented, then better controlled.

Oh my god when a random comment from a youtube video triggers a lightbulb moment. I'd been using an aloe vera gel on my face for about 2 weeks and I was notice improvement in my skin texture until I experienced some sort of allergic reaction. I thought it was the aloe but turns out the gel also contained urea. The more you know. Still going to get allergy tested in the next few days to be sure because your eyes and face itching and swelling is not fun

Thank you Dr Dray for continuing to bring out the best content on youtube!👍 I sooooooo appreciate and respect you!😊
As a lactic acid kind of girl, haha I had pushed aside Salicylic acid strictly for people who where acne prone but I was wrong. Like you have said Dr Dray one can treat an array of skin issues and concerns with Salicylic acid, it is not only for breakouts. I think Salicylic acid is wonderful for keratosis pilaris, i have seen the work it does!!! I know that all acids can be irritants but if one uses them correctly they are fabulous to use!! I like Salicylic acid because of its larger molecules and anti-inflammatory properties and feel it's pretty safe to use.
Thank you once again Dr Dray for your informative well thought out videos!! Sending you big hugs xxx💚💛💜💙

Salycilic acid has never worked out for me but benzoyl peroxide works so much for me I use the neutrogena rapid clear I noticed salicylic acid dried me out so bad. It’s weird I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t see results with salicylic acid. I also been using the cerave foaming face wash Which I love! I’m also gonna be purchasing the neutrogena hydro boost gel cream. I’m trying to change up my skin care I stoped using my rosehipseed oil because I feel like it’s been clogging my pores and making me brake out so I been keeping it simple I just use my First aid beauty ultra repair crem but now I wanna try the cerave pm moisturizer. I’m so thankful for you!!!!

i'm using Neutrogena Oil-free Acne wash atm, although in the UK they do not list percentages as it is not an active ingredient required to be listed separately with the percentage. but i think it should be similar as the US version. one specific SA wash that i will be trying after i am done with the Neutrogena one is from Clearasil and to my surprise they have a frangrance-free SA gel wash! One of the few (if not the only) fragrance-free SA wash that's below £6. FYI, for those interested you can only find it in Boots in-store, can't seem to find them in Superdrug nor is it available online on Boots as well.

I use the Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid, a leave-on product, but I wipe it on over the oily areas of my face, leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse it off and apply my moisturizer. I had been leaving it on but since you recommended not to do so, I've been using it in this manner, every other day. The days in between, I'm using the Alpha 12% AHA cream. So far, so good!

I'm having problems finding a wash with BHA and no fragrance here in Europe. I tried the Neutrogena one but the European formula is different and I had a reaction to its fragrance... I tried the Cosrx one also but it was a bit drying for me, I used it once a week maximum (I suppose that's because it is a leve on product). Cerave is now retailing here in Spain but they haven't brought the whole range so the BHA wash isn't available here (for now). I wish I had an option similar to the zapzip one. The best product I've found that doesn't trigger a reaction or dryness to my face is a powder that you can buy at Sephora and mix with your own wash, I think it is called metamorphose powder.

Have you checked out The Inkey List or (ofcourse the well know) Ordinary? You also have Revolution Skincare and Pixi but you need to watch out. Some products of them are perfectly fine (just like The Ordinary) but some of their producst are just for the hype but actually do nothing for your skin (Revolution quionoa peeling for example). I just ordered the Gentle Salicylic Acid Face Wash from Cosrx and also ordered some products from Revox and Elf (skincare line) for the first time, those are also brands you can look into. 😊

Love Zapzyt! Had never heard of it before watching your videos~ it was much gentler on my "grown up", retin-a treated skin than the CeraVe. I have Paula's Choice Resist BHA, and while it doesn't do much for my pores, it does contain some skin soothing and moisturizing agents. Thanks for sharing your faves!

As always thank you so much for the info!! I cannot tolerate leave on products so i am trying out the Cere Ve SA cleanser and its been about two weeks now, i also use it in the morning and right away put the moisturizer on, of course then when it drys SPF I will say i have very sensitive skin. Rarely but sometimes have Eczema on my face, i do not use it when that is the case. One time i left the SA cleanser on for a few minutes in the shower(on accident) and had an irritation but if i wash it off sooner i have no problems and have notice a very nice difference in the texture of my skin! THANK YOU Dr. Dray
ALSO haha i am originally from Alaska and we just moved to NC. The UV Index has helped me so much, i pay attention to it now and typically will avoid hanging out outside when its pretty high, i have been educating everyone on it, super random but you slightly mentioned it in a video a while ago and i looked into it so thank you for that as well!!

Zapzyt is my holy grail cleanser. Switched to it a few months ago along with the vanicream cleanser, & the elta md sunscreen amongst your other recommendations (ditch the fragrance) my skin has never looked better. Cerave SA did not work for me. I used the neutrogena oil free acne wash for about a decade before switching to Zapzyt. I found the neutrogena overly drying and hated the fragrance & dye. It seemed too harsh for my skin.

Dr Dray, you are phenomenal-I love your science based approach!- I was thinking of the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear Lotion for my hyperpigmentation/acne skin. I am over 40, started RetinA a few weeks ago and i have several acne scars. The ingredient list for Jan Marini is
    Active: Salicylic Acid 2%.
Inactive: Water/Aqua/Eau, Butylene Glycol, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Azelaic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ammonium Hydroxide, Polysorbate 20, Sclerotium Gum, Hydroxyethylcellulose.
I am not sure what this means- I know you like Azaleic acid, wondering what your opinion is on this product?- is there glycolic acid in this product?

Some of the information online about skin care can be so overwhelming and I know you say a lot of the cheaper stuff like CerVe is just as good or better. My question is, what about medical grade skin care? Is it truly better then what we buy over the counter or should I save my money?

Hi Dr Dray, kudos for all the brilliant information you share with us, you are amazing and totally loveable . I have a life-long problem with insomnia, which may seem an unrelated subject but recently came across a neurologist Stasha Gominek, whose area of study is Vit D and thinks sunscreen is not always a great idea. She also thinks supplementing with D3 will help sleep but will put the B complex out of wack and she's legit and is trying to garner attention from researchers to further study this phenomenon. I am not going to change my skin care routine which I learned from your videos, which has been vouchsafed by my dermatologist, but I am vegan, use sunscreen all the time although at 63 better late than never, and with a minimum expenditure of time and money my skin feels radically better. Just wondering about your thoughts about supplementing with Vit D3; I just started yesterday so will see over the next week or 2 whether it has any effect on sleep. Meanwhile, carry on!! You're a treasure.

As someone with dry skin, I can't tolerate the regular use of BHA on my face. It just takes the little bit of oil I have and destroys it, which makes my skin look old and crepey. I find AHA much easier to use.

Very addicting watching your videos! Your so informative and thank you for all your videos . Truly enjoying them! Question on zapzyt .. which I love and is the only Salicylic acid wash I can use it being so gentle. No problems! But u say you can’t use them the same time as Retin-A? I have used a few times and haven’t been irritated.. is that wrong to do? I hope I’m not doing damage ! I just feel the zapzyt is so gentle even more than an actual gentle facewash I have used. Thanks for all you do !

Assuming you have no makeup or sunscreen to remove from your face first, you can probably just use the salicylic acid wash on its own. It's still a cleanser at the end of the day, it just has the addition of that active ingredient.

  • @chelseamac1825

I converted to your routine minus the BHA and retinoids and had amazing improvements with acne, dryness, rosacea and skin texture. I don’t even need foundation anymore. Thank you! The only issue was that I had blackheads. I started using a BHA cleanser (the Neutrogena) to alleviate this and immediately had total face peeling. Is this just the BHA, or is it plausible I’m also having a reaction to fragrance (which has been an irritant for me in the past)?

Hi! I'm super confused about something and I hope for your opinion or knowledge on this matter because it seems to be a big thing in the skincare world: a lot of people are saying you need some wait time between applying products with ph dependent active ingredients such as acids, vitamin c, niacinamide, retinols etc. They say you should wait about 30 minutes after you've applied for example salicylic acid before you layer another product on, because that's about how long it takes for your skin to go back to its natural ph by itself, and if you apply maybe a moisturizer or a serum directly after the BHA you change the ph in your skin too soon and the BHA won't work optimal. Are there any truth in this?
Thank you for all your skincare advice, I love it!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 років тому

the best way to use a bha is in a face wash form, as only a short contact time is needed, or as a leave on product that is in a moisturizing vehicle and has been appropriately pH'd...rather than stacking random serums
