In 1945, unlikely allies toppled Hitler's war machine, while humanity's most devastating weapons forced the Japanese Empire to its knees in a storm of fire. Where once there stood many great powers, there then stood only two. The world had scant months to sigh its collective relief before a new conflict threatened. Unlike the titanic struggles of the preceding decades, this conflict would be waged not primarily by soldiers and tanks, but by spies and politicians, scientists and intellectuals, artists and traitors. Twilight Struggle is a two-player game simulating the forty-five year dance of intrigue, prestige, and occasional flares of warfare between the Soviet Union and the United States. The entire world is the stage on which these two titans fight to make the world safe for their own ideologies and ways of life. The game begins amidst the ruins of Europe as the two new "superpowers" scramble over the wreckage of the Second World War, and ends in 1989, when only the United States remained standing.
Twilight Struggle inherits its fundamental systems from the card-driven classics We the People and Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage. It is a quick-playing, low-complexity game in that tradition. The game map is a world map of the period, whereon players move units and exert influence in attempts to gain allies and control for their superpower. As with GMT's other card-driven games, decision-making is a challenge; how to best use one's cards and units given consistently limited resources?
Twilight Struggle's Event cards add detail and flavor to the game. They cover a vast array of historical happenings, from the Arab-Israeli conflicts of 1948 and 1967, to Vietnam and the U.S. peace movement, to the Cuban Missile Crisis and other such incidents that brought the world to the brink of nuclear annihilation. Subsystems capture the prestige-laden Space Race as well as nuclear tensions, with the possibility of game-ending nuclear war.

Excellent explanation of the rules. Played TS yesterday for the first time and came back to watch the video again to see what I might have missed. Seems we got it right early in the game. Also, I will take better advantage of the Space Race track to discard undesirable events. I all but forgot about this during play and had to eat * a few times. This game is just a lot of fun to play.

Appreciate the tutorial man! Quick question - is there a limit to how many times you can do realignment rolls per round? Couldn't figure it out!
It costs one ops point to do a roll. So you are limited.
From the rules book
6.2 REALIGNMENT ROLLS
6.2.1 Realignment rolls are used to reduce enemy Influence in a
country. To attempt a Realignment roll, the acting player need not
have any Influence in the target country or in any adjacent country-although
this improves the chance of success greatly. When
using a card for Realignment rolls, the player may resolve each roll
before declaring the next target. Countries may be targeted for Realignment
more than once per Action Round.
6.2.2 It costs one Operations point to make a Realignment roll. Each
player rolls a die and the high roller may remove the difference
between the rolls from their opponent’s Influence in the target country.
Ties are considered a draw, and no markers are removed. Each
player modifies his die roll:
• +1 for each adjacent controlled country,
• +1 if they have more Influence in the target country than their
opponent,
• +1 if your Superpower is adjacent to the target country
I think you should put a note in the video, or at the top of the video description noting that your removal of influence from Iraq was a mistake. Otherwise 10/10 video! :)

Hi! Thanks for the tutorial. Where go the cards used if not discard(=asterix) ? are they reshuffled with the rest when the early/mid war is over ? thanks!
if not removed from the game, then they are in discard pile which only gets reshuffled into deck when necessary (4.3). They are NOT shuffled in when shuffling in mid/late war cards (4.1).
If the card has asterisk, then it is removed from the game if the event occurs.
Could you do one for Colonial Twilight?

One thing I will say though is USSR felt like they had a big advantage and were easier to play. I've heard that the US is harder to learn how to play efficiently but ultimately both are fairly balanced slightly in USSR's favour. What do you think?
Jake Glenn I find that USSR has the advantage early war, but come mid war USA comes stronger
On some videos on YT showing TS being played, at the beginning of the game an additional point of influence is often played into Iran by the US, yet I was under the impression that all seven additional points of influence had to be placed in Western Europe. What gives ?!

Thanks for the correction. I had this comment in the earlier version of this video, but never could figure out what was the problem. They said Iraq is not in Europe. I thought I said it was. With your comment, I figured out where I made the mistake. Proof (once again) that when the camera is rolling and my lips are moving that my brain is in neutral. Thanks for watching.

That was a careless error. Iraq is colored light blue, which makes it in the Middle East region in this game.

My goal was to help you understand how the game plays. It was not to discuss strategy. Is that what you wanted?
I'm assuming he meant that he thought you didn't explain things in different or clearer ways than the rulebook already states. I found that some of your explanations helped clarify certain rules, but other times you were as vague/confusing as the rulebook. Overall it was pretty solid, so thanks a lot for your effort!
