You make me smile. You make me laugh. Between you and my anti-depressant medication, I think everything is gonna be alright. I used to not go outside when it was windy, waiting for it to glass off so I could surf. But everybody surfs now and it was always windy, so by the time I went surfing I was out of shape and little girls would snake me. So, making friends with the wind is my new thing. Thank you, Damien, Glen, and Harry.
I wanted to pause and sincerely thank you for sharing all your knowledge about and the enthusiasm for wing foiling with us. I have just come across the sport as well as your videos and enjoyed every single one so far. Jupiter Beach always feels special to me. However, last weekend, I couldn’t take my eyes off - what I have just discovered to be known as - wing foiling. They were everywhere! Well, there were enough of them to catch my attention (which is typically and naturally focused on keeping an eye on a four-year-old running around and playing in sand). Other than paddleboarding, I have never done anything surfing-like nor even thought of doing so. Yet, after two days at the beach, I found myself still thinking of the way the folks moved; how they shifted the wing, repositioned, just “smooth-sailed” without getting beaten up and without a whole bunch of tricky-looking equipment. I admit, spills weren’t disappointing to watch; recoveries were even better though. I finally grabbed the phone, started searching, and baam!, came across your videos. This fascination is a bit shocking to me as I’d have never, ever, in million years... well, anyway. Went to the surf shop today to inquire and already can’t wait to try it. Until then, there is a lot left to watch. Thanks again!
I've been having a blast up here in Ontario, Canada on the lake flying with ski's so much easier to stay upwind than on the water. Hopefully when the ice melts I can take what I've learned to the water!! Looking forward to many more videos on this channel!! Thanks

These tips and tricks for beginners are the best (Punch the Water,...). For me, the most valuable content is seeing other noobs getting started, getting up out of the water where we can see their feet, how they hold the wing, when they get lift, wiping out, struggling, what to do when you've fallen and you have to get back on the board in choppy water, etc. All that is so helpful. And of course, playing with that wing on land (or skateboard in my case)

Bro your passion for these watersports is infectious, am seriously thinking of getting started in kitesurfing and just love those wings tho,,,be great to try out on rollerblades and snow here in toronto canada. Shine on.
Wingfoil is wonderfull, it is important to say that if you have background in kitefoil or windsurf, to wingfoil is easy. For the kitefoil is more simple because you know how to control the board when fly. And for the wing you need only 2 session to understand. For the transitions (gybe/tack) is other level, but you can.
Great job filming this video! So stoked to have my new gear and ready for action. Also it was fantastic meeting you in Stuart! And thanks for including Stuart Csway, and Fort Pierce Inlet footage. Keep up the good work!

+1 for board size for winging! I was thinking about buying a board from Lift to use for foil surfing and maybe winging too if there is one which will do both well
@@danielhammack6511 Yes and no... Surfing you want a smaller board like a 4'0 or 5'0 board and it can work for winging but you have to be a lot better. Or go with a bigger board and not ideal for surfing as its a little bigger better for wingsurfing and SUP/foiling. It's hard to have the perfect combo. If I were to pick one it would be... The 5'0 LIFT is 40 liters so will work for both but harder on a wing as you will have to water start it. You will have to be more experienced on the wing.
Heavy rider set-up. If your about 90kg to 110+kg and a complete beginner, then I would recommend a ''wing'' specific board with a volume of 120L to 145L and a Wing size 6.2 to 7m and gong do 9m i heard. Foil size 2000 to 2500 sqcm front wing with a mast of 85cm. Should get you riding in -10 to 17 knots. This is just my opinion only based on my own experiences being 100kg.

Great vid! Where do you guys do most of your winging in FL? Best “roller” locations for winging? Jetties?inlets? I’ll be around Melbourne in a couple of weeks. Thanks for any info😀
Best spots are at causeways and intercostals as the water is much flatter than the ocean usually so easier to learn. As you get better it is endless opportunities really! :) Ft. pierce is a great spot.
Thanks Damien. Your videos are the best 👍👍. I'm an intermediate Kiter who can manage to ride in most conditions. I don't know how to hydrofoil though. Would you suggest giving up Kiting altogether and learning Wing-Foiling? I get that Kiting is probably more fun in terms of the number of things you do, and it's more extreme in some sense. But I don't want extreme. As much as I like Kiting, it took a while for me to learn it and I still feel somewhat overwhelmed when I run into line tangles and stuff. I am really drawn to the simplicity of "no lines". Please share your thoughts?
Funny we have a video coming winging vs kiting... SOON! It will cover exactly what you are talking about... honestly they both have their place! Both incredibly fun! Both challenging but I would say winging is more accessible to areas that kiters may struggle to kite with gusty winds and or putting out their lines. I think if you are not looking for the extreme. You should try foiling on a kite in lighter winds and that will help you also foiling on a wing! :) Or you just put the time in on the wing and you will fall in love with it.. I honestly love them both so never give up kiting maybe just choose the conditions for what may sound more fun for you that day! Kite or Wing..... Hope that helps....
Neil, We have some links in the description.... I would say a board around 100L, Cabrinha 6m or 5m X2 or mantis wing. A 1950 Cabrinha Fusion foil is good for learning or a 250HA LIFT foil. Great for winging.....
@@aldemirgraselli3253 What wing do you have? You will need to make sure you get the proper pump for the brand of wing as some have different connections.
@@aldemirgraselli3253 I would ask whoever you bought it from, for the right pump connection for your wing? I have never heard of that brand unfortunately or I would try and guide you.
Great info, thanks! Have been windsurfing for ages, but is there a wing foil setup I could use for wing foiling (on a dedicated board) and windsurf foiling on a compatible windsurf board, let's say, equipped with a Tuttle box? I'm not so hot for one of the specialised windsurf foiling boards, since I love windsurfing with a fin, but rather a foil compatible windsurf board slalom/freeride for the occasion. So basically, is there a foil set that can be used for both or are the sizes (front/back wing for example) totally different? I would go for a very light wind setup, so big (beginner) wings, and I guess there are adapters for the Twin US vs Tuttle box issue.
Very great questions... I am not to up to date on the windsurfing, but I do not know of one that is very comparable honestly. I am sure there is might just have to do some research! Sorry if I find out I will let you know.... The foils below, 100% can be the same for both as you would get the biggest foil wings for light winds! That I know.. Just not sure on a board that has a mast attachment for windsurfing.
Ok just came across this sport today. My family was into sup board for local lakes and I found this. Due to space and transport is this something that could be used with an inflatable sup board? I have my doubts on a foil but just to tool around with on a lake should be ok? Is there recommended types sup boards for this activity?

Good video. Thank you. Looking for words of wisdom on possibly a wing foil. I'm a long time "decades" long boarder to give real I idea what use/enjoy i have/had since 1993 a equipe xr2 an a phantom 377 since 2015 that like 377 better with it's advantages. Use 8.5 ezzy lions on both for decades with my local given conditions of 10-20 knots when I can sail June to September. I'm getting old 58 having a harder time transporting dealing with all on water with age becoming a issue. I'm 5.7 tall 170 lb like being able to hook into my harness enjoy the ride 10-20 knots. I'm looking for a long board alternative to keep me smiling on the water for many more years that I can transport an physically be able to enjoy. Wings to me seem like they would be physically demanding in comparison to be able to hook in the harness in comparison to longboarding in similar weather. Please give words of wisdom wing.. or...👍👎
Joe, I would just dive in, you will love it! Maybe take a lesson somewhere to get your feet wet. I believe like everyone out there you will love it.... My thoughts....
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam Thank you. It's not that popular in this area that I can try before I buy. I heard also optimal wind to learn is 15-25 knots. My local days I can sail are typically 10 to 20 knots. And with it being on shallow Lake I have lots of wave chop.
@@MrJoefoefrombuffalo We have a ton of videos with a ton of info on foils and boards but I would say your age, skill, weight. You could run a board around 105 - 140 Liter, 5 to 6 foot. Have a look at our link in the description for some gear options. Hope that helps...
It depends on your location with wind but honestly a great set up for your size would be a Cabrinha 5'4 Macro great board to learn on, with a 1950 fusion foil and a 70cm mast. 6m x2 wing for light winds and 4m X2 wing for higher winds... Wow!!! What entusiasm! I'm convinced!! What are the price range of a wing? How many do you need for different conditions? What's the price of that board with a foil?

Definitely try a wingfoilboard with a kite first, easier to control the power if you are a good Kiter. Only one new thing at a time like that. Once your comfortable on foil it's super easy to take a wing and just do it. But definitely easier with enough wind, when it's barely enough you have to pump the board and wing to get on the foil, that needs good foil feeling. So best would be to go in medium strong wind, take a bit smaller kite and try to ride the wingfoilboard. Keep the kite up high so you don't have to lean against it, stay rather upright on the board and position your feet and your weight pretty far towards the front at first, so you DONT fly up immediately on the foil. Keep the board on the water, and try to get some speed. Feel how the long mast under the board behaves when you do little steering impulses. Really practice riding with the board on the water. When you got a feeling for the left right steering, you can start moving your weight towards the back, in very small steps, when riding at good speed. At some point the foil will lift. Try to bring it down immediately again, so basically you go from riding on board to a small fly on the foil and back to on the board. Repeat. Increase the length of flying after a while. But always make sure to keep the board rather close to the water, highest 20cm. I'd recommend starting with 60cm mast length, later 80-90. But if you have to start with a long mast, practice left right steering longer with board on the water. Also, if your kite has enough power to pull you with foil and board in/on the water, the moment the board leaves the surface you gonna be overpowered and accelerate, so steer your kite up and depower.
@@Rocco_Kurokawa thanks for your comment😉. I know...before start to Wingfoiling you should be able to ride a foilboard ( windsurf , kitesurf or surf). I don't think It's so easy start this sport without this base. I mean...is there anyone who can say that?: "yes! I ridden my first foilboard with a wingfoil"
I just don't get the point, except for wind surfers, of this? Maybe a good workout, but seems unlikely to land tricks and keep moving like kiting. Just not impressive.

Aswell as jp foil ipr.. tabou has the option to use regukar fin and jp just do foil thou...(?) is there any others what have the option to do both?

Thx for this amazing video 🤟
Thank you!
Amazing content! Subscribed.
Thank you so much really!
How fast do you need to go and how big must the wing be so that it can send you flying?
All depends, but I would say if you can get up and foiling you can jump! Maybe not 10 feet but a couple inches...
thank you for this awesome video
Thank you for watching more to come!
Awesome. Love it, but where to RENT to test it out?
Where are you located?
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam I'll be waiting for that video of yours. 👍
What’s a decent entry level kit set up you’d recommend? 165ilb without breaking the bank. Great vids thanks!
Neil, We have some links in the description.... I would say a board around 100L, Cabrinha 6m or 5m X2 or mantis wing. A 1950 Cabrinha Fusion foil is good for learning or a 250HA LIFT foil. Great for winging.....
I just bought my first wing

Tx! Cool sport.. could you try a video with wing and a windsurfing board (formula) no foil...?!
If I had one I would, but will keep it on the list friend. Have a great day!

Ok just came across this sport today. My family was into sup board for local lakes and I found this. Due to space and transport is this something that could be used with an inflatable sup board? I have my doubts on a foil but just to tool around with on a lake should be ok? Is there recommended types sup boards for this activity?
Drew yep a lot learn with stand up paddle boards. Then eventually everyone evolves to the foil, as it is so fun!
Can I use small inflatable SUP without foil?
Yep you can to learn on it to get the basics, but you want to make sure you can stand on it with out sinking.

Good video.
Larger volume, more stable. Foil I would start with big 1900- 2100 or around there mast length 70cm. Keep it shorter for learning and shallow lake. 6m wing for your lighter winds. Done deal! :). Have a look at our link in the description for some gear options. Hope that helps...
But the board is huge and wont fit in any kite bag . For kite we use split boards and they fit in any briefcase

Stand Up Paddle board.... SUP
Can you water start like a windsurfer? I’ve gotta do this
You can but that is more advanced and will come later in your learning.....
Why were there only 5 Damos in starting???

Can anyone tell me what's a reasonable cost for ALL the gear I need for this sport??
Your looking at 2k to 5k for everything..... All depending....
Hey How big a board does a BIG guy need over 300# windsurfer/operational kitesurf SUP surf I just wanna get into Wing Foiling
I would push towards 130 to 150 liters and wide so you have stability.... The Cabrinha X- Fly would be good 7'6" x 32" x 4.7" x 153.5L

Whats the price for a wingsurf setup?
Depending on the gear, it runs anywhere from $1500 to $4000, check the description in the video and you can see some options!
How many knots are nessesary to wingfoil?
It depends on your set up but with some wind as low as about 8 knots it becomes possible
All depends on the size and talent of the person, but for sure you can ride in 8-12 knots and up..
HI Damien, I am 178cm tall and 75kg, so for a male like me, what is the setting need to buy to get into this, thanks.
It depends on your location with wind but honestly a great set up for your size would be a Cabrinha 5'4 Macro great board to learn on, with a 1950 fusion foil and a 70cm mast. 6m x2 wing for light winds and 4m X2 wing for higher winds... I would start with the 6m for sure...

I'm a kitesurer but I've never tried hydrofoil. How should I start?
You will LOVE it!!!! How to wing foil video dropping tomorrow, stay tuned! ;)
@@Rocco_Kurokawa Thank you so much for the great insight for everyone! Very kind of you!
Do you need a weed-free body of water to use the foil?
It really will help for sure not to have them. You can ride in some small amount of weeds but it is not ideal! Without is for sure better....
Up a mountain!!??!!
Has to be real windy!
Wing skimboarding??
Of course why not! :)
I just don't get the point, except for wind surfers, of this? Maybe a good workout, but seems unlikely to land tricks and keep moving like kiting. Just not impressive.
It really is fun friend.. Kiting is as well no question about that. Anything on the water is great! :)
Also, you may enjoy Harry's perspective on it as he had a very similar opinion on the topic, but then try it! ua-cam.com/video/9ogBgxolto4/v-deo.html
