Cool vid dude! Might consider trying that wing-thing soon
Great video. Ty
Slingshot's Wyatt Miller said on Bigwinds UA-cam video, "Winging Vs. Windsurf Foiling: A Windsurfer's Guide to Wing Ding" that it is possible to learn the basics of winging on a ~ 120 litre windsurfing foil board set up and that could be a slightly cheaper way into winging; save your money to go straight to a full on 90 litre winging board rather and an intermediate winging board. Well hear what he says at 3.30 to 4.30 on that video. Some amazing conditions shown on that video to tempt you to try.
very good video
Hi Sam, where do you launch from in Langstone Harbour? I'm local to Portsmouth and want a safe place to learn. Great videos, thanks for the brilliant content. Cheers
Great video Sam, I am using the Phantasm PTM926 on a 72cm mast at the moment but want to ride choppier water but found the 72cm mast was maxing out on the top of the waves, what would you recommend, the 82cm or the 92cm mast for winging, I’m feeling the step from 72 to 82 is neither here or there and may not be very noticeable, what are your thoughts ? Winging on the Essex coast. 🤙
Nice one Sam! Would you kite foil a ptm825 or 930? Trying to have only one foil setup.
Thanks, I’d have a 930 if I was only having one setup, the 825 is too small for lighter winds. Check out the new G series as well which is a range off the back of the 926. The G900 is similar lift to the 926. You could have a G800 as a one foil quiver as it sits in between a 926 and 825
@@SamLight your the man! I did see the sweet new Mid aspect G serie. Your right that 900 looks like the ticket for a everything wing.
Cheers
@@scp8412 The G900 is the old PTM926. I have kite foiled for years, the PTM 926 now the G900 is too big and too wide. I'm 80 kg and 6'2" I love the G800 for winging but I don't think it would be ideal for kiting. It would work but there will be a compromise. I kite the PTM730 or PTM684 and wing the G800, Ive winged the PTM926, PfI730(not much glide)turns great, I've kited this wing alot, still get over 20 knots. Short answer there isn't 1 perfect wing for both.
Hey Sam, as someone progressing from beginner kit this was useful. How much do you weigh? Useful for comparing your kit choices. I'm 80 kg and trying to work out if I can jump from 1800 to 1200 and high aspect, or if I need a 1500 lower aspect step. I've kite foiled so everything seems big, but might be over confident :)
Hey, great to hear. I weigh 80KG as well, I think 1800 and 1200 would be an ideal setup. 1800 in light wind and 1200 in stronger wind / waves👌🏻
@@SamLight thanks Sam - looking forward to the rest of this series :)
I was not successful at windsurfing but can sail a catamaran and smaller dingies. I haven't tried kiteboarding. Is this something a 70 year old do safely?
@2:50 Location ? Cool wavespot
How much better are Slingshot wings compared to other brands?
I haven’t tried other brands so can’t comment, but I do really like my wing craft and the V2 is a big step up from V1
They aren't necessarily 'better' I've used the Slingshot Javelin, and own Duotone and FOne wings. The javelin, for me I found the least forgiving wing, although its wingspan does help with handling a larger size wing. My others, the Duotone slick, and the FOne strike, defiantly find the Strike the easiest to use, the Slick sits somewhere in the middle.
@@SamLight I have always been a big Fan of Slingshot products - well designed and built. Although to be fair most brands produce good gear these days - it is about trade offs. I am tempted to try winging but I am still trying to master air gybes on my kite foil so dont want any distractions.
@@Xfuera Not sure if Chris Dickinson was talking about the wing or the foil. still best to demo as much as you can of either.
@@granthore2259 oh defiantly, never seen a sport like this where people will all swear by a different wing, foil or board as the best, so much personal preference involved.
