Alec Steele Blacksmith 2020 - Розваги
Will: Locks a piece of cold metal in a vice with the intention of bending it
Me: *Nervous sweating*
DaddyGraves69
Metallurgy Physics: “Bring On The Crackin!”
Vice: “Muahhh haha ha!”👏😈
Every time, man, every time...
Would heating it help (it is bronze, not steel)?
@ yes, I have 2 years of experience in working copper based alloys on an industrial level. The classic wisdom of heat it and beat it still holds true. Either work it hot, or beat it under 15-20% elongation or compression, then anneal to relieve stress. Repeat.
@ Yeah, bro. Most bladesmiths and metal workers know that Bronze work-hardens real fast and becomes brittle. It has to be annealed regularly. They must have skipped that chapter in forging school. Of course, he's made that exact same mistake before, so...
Will: "We're not killing any Mammoths".
Alec: Makes a sword big enough to kill a Mammoth.
Me: Suspicious...
Lol
GIANT SWORD vs. MAMMOTH from FORTY METRES!!!
Any idea if any of that mammoth ivory is coming from Australia?
They hired how ridiculous to drop the giant sword from the top of the tower to kill the mammoth
MAMMOTH DROPPED FROM FORTY METERES vs GIANT SWORD? My money is on the Mammoth.
Will:"I'm gonna try and bend it."
Everyone:"Rip guard."
The latter being thought before it happened
Litrally 2 seconds before I said this isn’t going to go well 😂
Yeah, I think we ALL saw that happening. Well apparently everyone except Will.
Looked intentional to me, Will knows better.
He should have sang hello darkness my old friend
New favorite quote:
“I saw it going one of two ways, but I never saw it going poorly.”
As soon as he started hammering on that brass without heating it first, I knew exactly what I was about to witness... And then I witnessed it. 🤦♂️
Me too.
I really think it was on purpose... he know brass not that soft. I still laugh though.
@@JucaValejo you're probably right, I was saying to myself, he's gotta know he needs some heat!
All I know about black smiting I learned here (barely) and I still saw it coming lmao
@@maxlindner2274 just like the rest of us.. LOL
I was watching that thinking "huh, I thought you couldn't hammer bronze because it breaks". And then it did.
That look of 'I regret everything' was amazing.
I was just thinking that to myself...but then I thought...I'm not a blacksmith what do I know?!
(Moments later) ...oh Will...poor Will.
@@addmoreice Not as bad then that "one time" he was trying to bend I think was a dagger, and it just snapped in the middle. That one was just pure pissed off :D
How did he not expect that?
Definitely not cold forging! *Oops* 🙄🤦🏻♂️
How many more "cold bending" attempts does a guy need before yall stop trying it
At least one more!!
As many as it take!
Yes.
When they stop breaking
It might work next time! ;)
Don’t know y but when the camera turned around to look at who was making the noise ad just see him look up with the welding mask still on made me laugh lol
A C same, good ‘ol metal shop comedy.
my favourite part is that neither one of them said anything :D
yeah i was cracking up at that lol
If there is a single person here who didn’t know that was gonna snap right off & a redo was coming - you haven’t been watching the channel long enough. That’s one of the things that makes this channel so cool. Even when you’re screaming at the screen for them to stop, they never do, & you get that horrible snap, but they always show it. Very valuable!!!
that's also why he bought so much bronze in the last video.. lol
When he started pounding it with a hammer I was like, here we go again.
I actually said out loud. “ any... second.... now.there we go!”
i was literally wondering when he would hit it a little bit further up and snap it off
You gotta respect the honesty. It takes true humility to show the world you making a stupid mistake. They're good guys
Will: *expresses excitment about hand sanding*
Zweihander: Am I a joke to you?
Me: how can Isaiah stay so quiet, when Will just broke off the guard?! I'd have started laughing so hard! What determination for his job as cameraman! Respect!
Isaiah: starts laughing..
Quotes that precede moments of disaster: “Well that’s working really good”
As a 24 year old who obsessed with learning new things and doing projects, I cant say enough how cool it is to see what alec has created. He has a full fledged shop ran by dudes younger than me. To see that Is so inspiring and a blast to watch. I live in a neighboring state and it would be so cool to just hang out. I recently built a little charcoal forge and am working on my first pair of tongs, it's not as easy as it looks😂
Keep it up!! It's an awesome hobby
All I can say is - it LOOKS hard, so carry on!
Now we know where all the mammoths went, Will killed them all for their tusks.
Alec: "I just finished the world's largest sword ever in only 5 parts!"
Will: "Come back next time for part 5 of my pizza cutter."
Hammering on brass.
Me: laughs internally
Brass breaks
Also me: Laughs out loud.
Even though I did feel that pain, I do find it somewhat funny to happen to others. Not so much on that breaker sword though.. That one hurt too much.
Haaa same
But I was previously surprised were they find that shitty piece of brass
Most expensive pizza cutter based on labor and materials.....
but he'll make the next one even faster...
what are you trying to say-
Next is a deep dish, Damascus skillet?
Mosaic damascus shovel.
That would be awesome
Will should change his name to "Snappy McHandsander"
Will: "I'm going to try bending it"
Me: "just waiting for the snap"
10 seconds later
Me: "there we go!"
As a pizza delivery driver, this series has been very interesting and fun
You do the lords work sir. I appreciate you.
As an avid pizza eater, I thank you for your service
I thank you for your service.
*salutes*
underrated comment
As soon as the sledge came out, we all knew where this was going to go :(
"This is actually working pretty well..."
Famous last words.
Hi Will, just wanted to say that your enthusiasm about blade smithing has started the fire in this 30 yo Belgian guy whose stuck at a desk all day. Since childhood, I dreamt about smithing, but because of university and later work, never found the time. I've just enrolled into a basic smithing course, next week my first lesson starts!
Y’all should make the dagger that is “perfectly balanced ”from avengers
Watching Will taking that hammer to the guard took me back to that awful feeling I would get as a little kid watching Lucy do something that Ricky was going to blow up over.
7:02 THAT. That right there is the face😂
This was an unbelievably accurate depiction of what building anything is like. 1 step forward, 2 steps back.
Will, thanks so much for not overloading is with a ton of commercials!!!
Will bending things vs things that don't want to be bent: 0 to... not counting anymore.
Remember sword breaker? That might actually have been Alex instead of Will, but that was pretty bad.
Whats the offical count on that, Sword Breaker, hook sword x2, now this, what else?
Really appreciate the ad spots being calmed down. Nothing wrong with promoting yourself just appreciate that this video was about the work, not the shop. Keep doing what you are doing we love it!
The person cutting this and timing all the hammer strikes to the music is my personal hero
“I think elephants are very nice”
I’m sure they think you’re very nice too, Will.
Missed opportunity: splitting the lower part of the guard, letting the pizza cutter stand up and not get messy.
7:25; a smile & a chuckle help see you through. also having Isaiah to keep perspective with his light humor. a fine keeper, indeed.
Will: tries coldbending the guard
My brain: *plays Swordbreaker flashback*
Why does Will insist on raising my heart beat to heart attack levels!! 🥺
I just saw in my minds eye that super glue heating up and releasing and the blade flying off cutting /killing someone.
You were right the first time, Wil - it's quillon (quill-ohn, no second i). Forged in Fire drives me nuts with 'quillion.'
I straight up gasped when Will broke that guard. Those are the kicks to the pants that make you want to quit for the day. Took it like a champ
I definitely appreciate will taking a moment to address their material sourcing
Im just here to see if Will is able to squeeze another 3 episodes out of this thing.
It's pissing me off tbh haha
Hopefully he gets a new pizza to use it on.....cause the one from the first vid has to be cold and moldy by now
matt dunn why more entertainment for us during lock down
@28steps They heeded the comments from the last infomercial.. er.....episode.
As soon as he started hammering on that bronze I was like, "he's gonna snap it, isn't he?" Nothing good ever comes from cold-forging on this channel.
I love how this channel has will and Alec doing their own projects but I think the contests between the two would just push them just a bit more
Any chance of someday seeing the collection of completed projects that you have? It would be great to see a video where you discuss some of your older projects, get to see the finished results of some of the work that got you here and SLAUGHTER ALL THE FRUIT!!!
🤣🤙
I really do love all of the projects and stuff you guys make thank you for the content
*I'm surprised that it broke while he was bending it*...said no one ever...
Who else knew the guard would snap the second he put it in the vice? Keep up the good work Stelter, can't wait to see your finish work on the handle.
I would say Will has used a grinding belt. His sense of humor is also great.
I'm so jealous of whoever gets this when it's done
As SOON as Will mentioned bending the guard into shape I started cringing in anticipation...
Out of everything they’ve made I want this the most, it looks so amazing
This really is an Alec Steele video. Something was forgotten in an oven, the guard snapped, and Will cut his thumb.
Will actually said "Alecsteeleco" today, and it felt so wrong.
I would really like to see you guys' take on the "ashandarei", which is a swordspear weapon from the Wheel of Time book series that is soon to be a video series on Amazon. It's described as "sword blade in place of a spear point, slightly curved and single-edged".The blade is adorned with two ravens, and the shaft has an inscription. The inscription, translated, reads:
The inscription reads "Show less"?
Swordspears are a historical thing- I think it was Skallagrim that did a video on them. And yes, our smiths here should make one... or two...
Hook sword redemption first.
"Thus is our treaty written; thus is agreement made.
Thought is the arrow of time; memory never fades.
What was asked is given. The price is paid."
Odd, I copied the inscription, pasted it in, it showed properly, showed up at first, and then later didn't.
@@dangingerich2559 I've had that happen, too. No idea why it happens.
Loved the Office reference "well it could have gone 1 of 2 ways but I didn't see it going poorly."
I enjoy the successes just as much as the failures for some reason. This channel has more bits that I never heard of than Amazon.
A wise man once said, “fail it ‘til you nail it.” -Neebs
When I'm rich and famous, I'll just pay these guys to make everything of mine out of Damascus steel: knives, silverware, mugs, swords, bathtubs, and my car...probably not in that order...
Damascus gear shift lever for an Eleanor style mustang?
@@David_Johnson_ if they really wanted to test the limits of pattern welding, they could try to get the gear numbers in the Damascus
I believe it would really add to the videos if you put a still of Alec giving the "disappointed" look when something catastrophically goes wrong, or a life sized wall sticker to motivate the staff. Looks good so far, keep up the good work Mr. Stelter.
I was waiting for the moment that first guard would snap with trepidation. Thanks Will for not disappointing!
Maybe it's just me, but i think the camera is a tad bit jumpy. (when Will is talking)
Geeat vid!
Will: I’m a hammer it
Me: don’t break it
Will: * ting*
Me: what was that
7:40 cue timelapse :) Big respect for your editor - poor guy who has to listen to endless hours of heavy machinery for each and every video to make sure everything's fine. Little bumps like this one are really rare which speaks volumes
I’m screaming laughing at that break! Can we just have a video that’s a smash cut of Will accidentally breaking the things he makes. Lol.
Me watching Will hit the guard: wouldn’t hitting the metal cold lead to breaking? Wouldn’t it be easier to heat it up and bend it?
Will breaks the guard: LOLOLOLOLOL I WAS RIGHT......poor Will 😂
Me: watches the clip over 20 times
The way you're supposed to cold work brass is by occasionally annealing it, hammering on it work and on puts parts under tension and compression. Heating it up allows the molecules to relax before being pushed to breaking point. So cold work is fine he should of just tossed it in their heart treating oven before and after hammering on it.
You better buy a fancy pizza to cut
Totino's Cheese pizza it is. :-)
My heart skipped a beat every time Will hammered it and I whimpered out loud when it broke
Will's filing work is beyond amazing!
*uses the lathe*
*PROCEDES TO ANNOY THE COMMENT SECTION BY USEING A DRILL MOTOR INSTEAD OF THE LATHE*
He isn't old enough 😂
Every time they chuck something in a drill I say this. They have a beautiful old school lathe... It has the amazing ability to reliably make things precisely circular... it could have had the cutting disc profiled in 1 episode, and finished in a second including the extremely fine edge for the blade. Rather than a janky solution with chucking it in a drill... ARGH... My OCD isn't kicking in I swear...
@@jcota2003 it's Everyones.
Alec won't allow him to use abrasives on it.
@@opendstudio7141 You don't need abrasives to cut a profile, really you don't... it can be done on the lathe using a carbide insert. Might take a little practice on a piece of scrap but that should have been possible to make on a lathe and only touch up and fine sanding for finishing. The way Will did it works obviously, but with an awesome lathe like that they should make use of it. Alec did it all the time on the other side of the pond.
I'm glad he called out the ivory hand-wringers from the chef's knife video.
I think we all felt it in our hearts as soon as Will said "... and this is going pretty well..." and time slowed down to a crawl as the hammer came down one last time.
"I saw that going 1 of 2 ways, but I never saw it going poorly." 🤣 I'm dead 🤣
Is it just me or does Alecs chin hair only grow when his head hair is short..... Yeah, not everyone notices the finer points of the video.... That's why you have me here...LOL!!
This pizza cutter needs to go to Dave Portnoy, El presidente. The pizza king of Barstool Sports
I love how, when the guard broke, everything went silent. The music, him speaking, everything...
Caught me off guard...
You know, one of my old boss's favorite sayings that I find myself using all the time with apprentices is "If you don't have time to do it right, do you have time to do it again?"
HEY WILL HEY ALEC HOWS IT GOING?
OH NOTHING JUST KILLIN MAMMOTHS
OK Will has done two of the don'ts that start with "B" Broke, and Bleed.. only one left Burn.. OH Wait he done that in the first PIZZA Cutter video when he burnt the pizza in the PM18T Pro Double barrel Paragon Kiln.. So I think he in the clear.. LOL And Yes I went back and found that clip just to get the model of the Paragon right.. LOL
😂😂😂😂😂 Will, Oh Will, your efforts to bend metal leave us all holding our breaths. I know the suffering of when your work all goes wrong. Hang in there!
"I saw that going one of two ways but I never saw it going poorly" 😂😂😂
It looks killer but the center bolt/plug needs to be bronse also, I think
Simplistic projects being dragged out into too many episodes.
>simplistic projects
(X) Doubt
Now Will is getting a series where he makes tons of mistakes. Gotta love it
Seeing Will doing these videos and becoming more accustomed to being on camera is awesome. Keep up the great work!
Ok, at this point you're just beating a dead horse with this build. Just finish it already. You're 4 parts into this build and you're just dragging it out to game the algorithm and push the web store. Half the damn video series is an ad.
Endless love for Alec of course, this is how I found and still follow this channel, but.... Will is becoming quickly becoming my favorite. He is so bad ass!
He should make a channel to
@@Shadow-xb4ec he does have his own channel! Search will stelter on UA-cam!
I was laughing so hard when the guard snapped, I knew it was going to happen. You gotta remember to anneal brass before bending it too much.😂
One of the best edited of Will’s videos. Well done team.
When you don't skip the sponsor ad to listen to that accent. Thanks Alec!
I totally called Will breaking the guard. I knew the next hit was the end
Cold bending that guard was giving me flashbacks than... He does it again 😂
I think Alec is jealous of you getting all this camera time. Incredible pizza cutter.
Your "Oops, I broke it" videos are genius. They typically require additional videos for more revenue. Just a smart way to make more money in most cases. And we get another video to watch. 😉
Work hardening a piece of metal repeatedly...Screamed out loud that it will break. Surprised it didn't break, then it immediately broke.
This is comedy.
we need more steel vs stelter episodes, those were great.
Sometimes I think maybe he does this on purpose for the comedic relief. Also, love the filming of that whole "incident" haha.
6:57 a new entry into whenever they make a "things go snap" compilation. XD
I knew literally the MINUTE they showed him "bending the guard" that it would break. Like...would anything ELSE happen on the Alec Steele channel?
As soon as Will said he was going to bend the guard into place I knew we'd be watching him make another
Will: *hammering cold bronze* "this is actually working pretty well!"
..... next hit breaks the guard
long pause....... "well....."
