Next time you play, if all you want to do is get through the desert, the easy way is to set yourself so that you're walking directly between the True North Star and the False North Star. That's it. Just walk that straight line every night for a few nights and you'll get to where you're going. Even if you want all the hidden items in the desert, I'd recommend doing this first and then following a guide. But all those complicated instructions the game gives you just to get through the desert are completely unnecessary.
lol I "discovered" this when I was kid, however I was just playing the game normally, didn't know anything about farming for rare items, I was just pissed my team got one shotted and I lost an hour of progress lmao, second time I ran into him I just ran away.
With the help of save states I can confirm Archmages do spawn in this room, just extremely rare (although supposed to have 1/16 chance as Berserkr). Actually this room in particular and the whole game’s rng is so weird I haven’t figured out yet. During my 1 hour of running around, only few fixed spots can spawn monster (and Holy Mantle/Bell Collar don’t affect anything), and Archmages appear in just 1-2 spots, and they seem to alter each time you enter the room too... Anyway I’m done with those 2. Kill each of them once for the drop, and pilfer/escape from Berserkr few more times for the Gloves. Their exp is great but I rather do Lava Man trick.
@@Source7246 if u have save states on a computer or a phone which I'm playing it on the lava man trick will cost u zero ammonia but to get to level 100 most take forever even doing this trick smh.
@@vladimirintelagily5913 the 2 can spawn as soon as Garr smashes the box to open up the ladders. Before that no, after that yes. The box naturally gets removed once you beat Myria, but if you clear it with Garr the minute you get out of the DoD they start to appear.
You need 3 Fire Rings. Also, stock up on the Manly Clothes and use that instead of the Soul Gems. After you Charm, Steal, and Pilfer ( preferably in that order), you can Focus & Aura him to death. Make sure you give that Aura Skill to someone while you use the Flame, Force, and Trance Gene Splicing got the Dragon Focus & Aura attack. Additionally, casting Speed on everyone in the beginning till they get two attacks per turn is useful. Berserker is the foe that requires the most time to take down and must gradually be worn down.
I knew about this only because I was stuck on the desert of death for ages because the in-game instructions were so bad on how to cross. You can take down Archmage and Berserker at lower levels with good elemental protection, and a little bit of luck if you use the warrior dragon.
I used the Kaiser Dragon to defeat the Berserkers but I was unable to steal their items without Rei. So I merely just use them to level up my Nina to get Deis' Celerity. But in order to cross the Desert of Death, you have to follow the True North Star until the Evening Star is shining directly to your Western perspective and after that, you have to walk through East until the Evening Star is no longer visible and once it disappears, go straight to the North Star. *DO NOT* get deceived by the False North Star's mirage at any cost!

And I had to look it up online, it had to be nearly 15 years ago now… Berserker: I found Rei leading chain form was particularly good. Since he’s in the lead spot, he gets more of the attacks thrown his way. You can use resist to be immune to damage and if you have decent speed you can get plenty of EX turns to buff up and overwhelm. Alternatively, I once did a playthrough where I maxed Ryu’s HP to 999 (through life shards) and I went Mammoth (9990 HP) and Meteorstriked it to oblivion. Did about 4-5K damage per hit. Fight was over in like three turns.
Magma armor (acquired thru charm on volcano in mt. Zublo) equipted to all male party members makes this an easy battle have all members be apprenticed to merryleep to gain high agility as you level up building stats early by stealing is not a bad idea also
Also protection spell maybe? He does so much damage. Garr and peco under Fahl are god tier tanks. They can at least have 300 hps if every lvl is 4 extra hps and 3 Def. They would only fear magic but that's why you wear elemental armors to absorb magic attacks or nullify it. Rei under Fahl is wasteful. He gets such much agility and Ap and you can learn Cure from lizard in the desert so he can be a backup healer. Momo can do the job as she is only one to learn heal and damage buff naturally but she misses so much and her hps is garbage.
Rei and Peco should train with Fahl, so they can be tanky enough to endure hits, Ryu warrior and weretiger do the job and peco heals with multivitamin, gg izi
There is a far easier way to approach these enemies. Just nab Charm from Meryleep and then put Charm on a third character and Steal on the second and bring Rei. Lower Rei's attack as low as it can go then go to Momo's Tower and use Charm on the Ice Toad enemies and steal from them. If their HP is too low, then don't have Rei use Pilfer. You can net like 99 Life Gems in about 2ish hours. That basically a near 100 point HP gain per character. Yoy can max out your HP pretty quickly then these dudes are chumps
imagine, all the trouble they went through crossing the desert, when they could just jump down the container yard, instead of ladder, you played this game if you know what I mean

I remember try to get Holy Avengers(?) from him. After that...Goo King Sword, which in retrospect, seems like a hat tip to the Metal King Sword from DQ.
Use [Charm] first and then use [Pilfer] & [Steal] next. [Charm] should raise the chances of both: - Stealing item - Drop item Also I always see everyone using -Soul Gems- which you can get for free stealing it from the Wizard. But those who don't have that option (yet) need to rely on Soul Gems which are 3000 Gold a Piece. In Sin City they have that gear for males which has the same effect as Soul Gem, each piece at 1000 Gold. But honestly, buying ×99 Ammonia for 200 Gold a piece is cheaper. I would cast the speed spell on each character and have ⅔ of your party members get that [EX]-tra Turn. While equipping Fire Ring(s) or Lava Armor(s) on the team. Each of these items can be stolen or acquired from an enemy drop or a treasure chest (maybe even Marino's on the he fishing spots). If you lack the amount then make a Copy shop at the Fairy Village and have ×1 Fairy copy your item (do make sure to save in case it fails, you can always reload your save and try until the fairy succeeds)
Nice one! Yeah charm does increase the steal rate. Farming soul gems from Arch mage? I would do that differently. I agree, that's also an good option + coupons. Agreed, but you're risking more, especially without the F1/F2 load save states. It's more fun to play the game without using load/save states.

@@airtioteclint I think going inside the Container Yard allows you to either face the Archmage, Berserker, or the Tankbots. Since you can just abuse the Soul Gems repeatedly, why not try your luck?
I just played this game and i defeted beraerk using mammoth meteor breath. Once mammoth is low level change back then cast again. I used 1-2 wisdom fruit with this technique
Thats a good way to go, but too costly with all those soul gems. I'd rather go with Rei leveling the minimum possible until train with Fahl at the contest arena and peco from level 1 with Fahl too. Ryu getting speed stats with few levels with maryleep to boost his speed and put him in 1st chain form. Have Rei turn into weretiger peco goes with influence and resit and Ryu fire+force gems casting aura Btw all agility food to ryu and farm power food to Ryu and Rei
This seems like a really complicated way to do something that you can do much, much easier by just transforming into a Mammoth Dragon after stealing the gloves. Always has 9999 HP and does around 5000 damage per round with its breath attack Meteor Strike. Can kill the Beserker in 2 turns if in Chain Form since it will still get EX turns even after sucking up the party leader
I did not recognize where you were; am I correct in guessing that you crossed the dessert early for this video and thats where you were? Also, my experience with Breath of Fire 3 is that I get to leave the first area finnally and get stuck shortly after or during exploring a Volcano... that being said, I hate how hard it is to steal in the game. Do you by chance know how the calculations for stealing works? I get the distinct feeling that default steal rate is 5% or less, or is that way off?
Learn charm from one of the masters. I think Dlonzo but not sure. It raises steal and pilfer chances by 10% which isn't alot but if your steal % is 10% then it goes from 1 in 10 chance to 1 in 5 and thus way more reasonable chance. Also try midas stone from wyndia stores. You get it pretty early for rei. I wonder if you can wear 2 midas stones for double the pilfer chances.

I was in the same boat and had to google: 44 Def Shield (2nd highest in game) with +10 Power and equipable by everyone. Highest Def shield in game is at final dungeon and has 45 Def with no other buffs.
Equip Fire Ring(s) for the females, Magma Armors for the Male characters + Soul Gem. You can farm these Soul Gems from the Arch Mage that tends to lurk around there. I have managed to farm a few Spirit Rings (half 50% AP of skills). So I put Ryu in his Warrior + Fire + Defense mode (Had Life Armor equipped, Defense drops quite a lot when you switch it for Magma Armor). Adding the defense dragon gene is your saving grace in dragon mode preventing Beserker Bot from k.o. your dragon form in a single hit. As for the spear, it's really hard to get, but I finally managed to get the Rufad's Spear/Rufad sSpear he drops. Saying he drops it 1/100 chance might not be exaggerated. I even took a break off the game. Yesterday I just picked up where I left about +half a year ago. And today I got it! :D
It goes without saying, but in order to obtain the Rufad's Spear, you first need to steal the Aries Gloves (shield) off Beserker. Speed Formation Ryu, Rei and Nina. (Everyone except Nina had a Spirit Ring) I had Ryu equipped with: - Influence (since Beserker starts confused, I pointed him toward Rei in combination with the Resist skill which grants 1 turn invulnerability) - Charm (increases chance of finding item) - Steal (doesn't deal damage to steal item, Beserker remains in his confused state) - Focus (not necessary, just fun, try ×2 and then the skill Aura attack) - Aura (Holy Attack power ×2) I had Rei equipped with: - Resist (invulnerability for ×1 turn, needs to be faster than enemy or its useless) - Last Resort (Raises Power in exchange for lowering Def to 0) - Shadow walk (warp attack: critical blow) And I had Nina equipped with: - War Shout (Raises all target's power, I had her cast this skill nonstop) Nina on WarShout, with Rei & Ryu dealing Shadow walk & Aura + with extra turns should do the trick.
Comparing the Rufad's Spear to the Beast Spear you obtain from Gaist, the 2nd one is more Powerful. Beast Spear: - Power 150 - Weight 15 - Property → None - Demerit → Drain Life (Lose HP each turn, you can cancel this effect with a Ring that regenerates HP each turn) Rufad's Spear: - Power 108 - Weight 2 - Property → Holy The Beast Spear has +42 Power, -13 Agility + HP loss each turn. Rufad's Spear has -42 Power, +13 Agility Considering Garr's original stats are OP that he doesn't lack the Power, but crap when it comes to Speed, I would prioritize Rufad's over Beast Spear.

Overall it's lightweight and has a great power while having holy effect, oh shiet.If played on standard forms. However if you are playing in Chain form , chances are that agility won't matter that much compared to 42 pwr (I don't know Chain forms drawbacks.) Beast Spear is aquired earlyer thus it has it's drawbacks the hp% and weight. I mean it's called Beast Spear.
Mammoth. If you run out of AP before you kill it, use Wisdom Seeds on Ryu. Repeat Mammoth. Whatever this video is, it's way too costly and complicated.
The frustration of knowing you can cross the desert so soon and so easily, but the party can't jump down five feet to advance forward.

Arch Mage, this guy and a properly fed Lava Man are the top three sources of fun in this game
If You use mainly rei and garr. The manly clothes are cheaper than soul rings.

I apprenticed my Garr to Bunyan and apprenticed my Rei to Fahl accidentally because I forgot to get his Resist skill back then.

To add to this, Charm raises the steal rate by two tiers. So a 1/128 steal chance becomes 1/32, iirc.
Mamoth + MeteorStrike = Berserker without problems) but you need more than 300++ hp to Ryu (same with archmage)
Arch mage is easy true kaizer. 2 focus and super combo try for 6-7 combo. Easy win

All those Attempts to steal, using charm makes it easier and I always used monopoly to give the max XP to one person.
So berserker can be fought before crossing the desert but not archmage? Nice find though. As you said, you can get aries gloves before the elder boss.

Comparing the Rufad's Spear to the Beast Spear you obtain from Gaist, the 2nd one is more Powerful.
Beast Spear:
- Power 150
- Weight 15
- Property → None
- Demerit → Drain Life (Lose HP each turn, you can cancel this effect with a Ring that regenerates HP each turn)
Rufad's Spear:
- Power 108
- Weight 2
- Property → Holy
The Beast Spear has +42 Power, -13 Agility + HP loss each turn.
Rufad's Spear has -42 Power, +13 Agility
Considering Garr's original stats are OP that he doesn't lack the Power, but crap when it comes to Speed, I would prioritize Rufad's over Beast Spear.

I have to agree Rufad's Spear is fucking amazing.
Overall it's lightweight and has a great power while having holy effect, oh shiet.If played on standard forms.
However if you are playing in Chain form , chances are that agility won't matter that much compared to 42 pwr (I don't know Chain forms drawbacks.)
Beast Spear is aquired earlyer thus it has it's drawbacks the hp% and weight. I mean it's called Beast Spear.
