- Welcome to the Cubase Technical Course!
I have decided to release my paid course to the public to allow more people to learn and grow from my videos. Cubase is a very complex software and this will help jumpstart the learning curve when switching over. In this course, which will be divided into 5 parts, you will learn all of the necessary buttons/features/tools that will be needed to make music in Cubase. This is NOT a music course, this is a course designed only to learn how to use the interface and where some of the more important features and buttons are located. I am aware that this may not cover everything, but there is only so much time to cover it all, Cubase is a very large program and there are still new things we learn everyday! I hope this course can help you get started on Cubase and jumpstart your music adventure!

Thank you so much. Great tutorial - Looking forward to continuing the course. I'm transitioning from Logic Pro so there are lot to learn in terms of new functions and workflow. Cubase seems like a much more developed DAW compared to Logic Pro.

Brilliant John, I’ve been with cubase for a long time but with a new set of projects and just been rebuilding my studio I thought I’d watch some things and cut out bad habits and learn better practice if poss. This is awesome, most people would be selling this course so a big thank you for all your effort. I’m going to watch it all for some gems that I don’t know - found a couple already - but boy I wish someone had done this when I was starting with it. Cheers! Liked, subbed and rang the bell!

If you can show me how to do automations just like they are in ableton based on last touch control, i will love you forever
I'll try Jack. Though don't know Ableton so hope what I've written makes sense. This is how you do automation in Cubase. You see where John has his track on the left, the purple one? If you hover your mouse over the bottom left corner of the track you wish to automate, you should see an arrow down button. (In John's example, of the square that's purple, bottom left underneath the MIDI graphic, 28:23) Click that and and a new lane appears underneath the track. (Note, this is NOT the 'lanes feature - that's all to do with comping). When you hover anywhere on this line, the pointer automatically turns to a pencil. Click on this line where you want the automation to start, and click where you want it to end. If you then take your mouse and hover anywhere between the two points you created, above these two points, In the dead centre, a dot appears. Simply click and move up or down depending on whether you want an increase or decrease. That's it! If you then look at your mixer console, 'R' is highlighted (green) which shows it's active. If you 'rewind' to before the automation begins and hit 'play', the fader moves automatically. Obviously, you can add more dote if you want to make smoother transitions, and remove them by right clicking on the dot and select 'cut'. You can also over-ride the 'R' function by clicking it off too. Hope this helps.
If what you mean by last touch control, then on the track in question, select 'W' next to the 'R' either on the mix console, and move the fader accordingly as the track is playing - it will write the dots in for you. The way I've shown you though, you can get really 'in there' and surgical
@@richwebster117 thank you for your time, I really appreciate your answer. In ableton when i put let's say sylenth on the track and touch let's say the master volume in sylenth, immediately the line appears on the automation lane for me to manipulate without pressing play and recording it. Can i do the same in cubase?
@@jackc8120 yes mate - just hit ‘w’ (next to the’R’ when it’s playing, as soon as you move the fader, the same should happen.
@@richwebster117 is there any way it can it be done without playing? it does seem to work when you are playing like you said but the automation line doesn't show up on the automation track without playing when the last control is touched. Anyway to change that or is this simply Cubase limitation? Thanks again
@@jackc8120 not sure - the only methods I used are as I described, but I prefer the first one, revealing the line by clicking the hidden arrow and writing them in manually. It’s far more accurate
