Without doubt, for me, one of Cubase's greatest strengths is Variaudio and the integration with Chord Tracks. Not only just for pitch correction, but excellent as an analysis tool where you can breakdown a vocal performance and work out creative changes, harmonies etc. And feed that back into new 'real' vocal takes.
I can't live without vari-audio, been using it for many years. It can work well on other monophonic sounds in a pinch. ie: fix a wrong note in a guitar solo
This was SO helpful. I'm working on a project right now that needed some minor pitch correct work and it went so smoothly after I watched this video. Thank you!
Hey Jef. Thanks for this. Really great and of course, showing off your golden ears. Great vocalist. This helped me with a show tune where I had to use all of these controls, so much appreciated!
love this informative video, did not know I could just select all and move pitch line and all notes would be corrected all at once, this is a massive game changer for quick work flow, none of the other videos showed this move. Thanks a lot will definitely SC now.
Great video, I've not yet used the pitch correction in cubase and didn't realise how good it is ! It's going to be interesting using this with different sounds as well as vocals. Thanks Jef !
Great demo Jef. I can see how this can really clean up a performance but also how a less adept engineer could ruin one. Powerful tools that need to be handled with care and diligence.
Great info and nice voice too! Is there a way to make in the Key Editor scale note guide brighter or even change the color? Also what does the different colors stand for ? Thanks so much for your time.
Hey Jef, Thanks for the video I do have one question: in Cubase 5 you were able to hear to note whenever you clicked it. This came in very handy for editing. Can you still turn this on in Cubase 12? Grts
Thank's Jef for the tutorial. A question: where you can switch on/off the sound while you shifting the sound block (tuning). You can hear the sound and tune it more accurate. Thank's in advance. Jan.
Jeff, Thank you. I actually knew and have used most of these features but it was great to get a refresher, especially since I’m editing my vocals in a project. Sometimes Cubase creates a vertical pitch line (other strange lines) in the phrase. I assume that Cubase is trying to deal with a non-pitched artifact from it’s pitch analysis. In this song there was one which you ignored editing and didn’t mention. Sometimes there’s a little “note” associated with them too. What to do about them in the editing process is a mystery. Can you explain or reference a source that addresses them?
Thanks for this great video! Super helpful.. Do you have any time saving / workflow tips for tuning vocal doubles in a pop/rock kind of track (i.e: you've tuned the lead vocal track and now need to also tune the doubles which sing the exact same notes) or is it a case of having to go in and do every track separately?
Hello thanks so much I'm still struggling sometimes I want to cut in a certain spot but it looks like Cuba's won't let me cut there maybe it's a shift cut to let you allow to cut wherever you want I don't know I haven't figured it out and I can't seem to find it in the darn manual appreciate any help thanks again
Do you know if the "correct pitch" option is available in cubase 10.5 pro? I have "straighten curve" "shift formant" and "volume", but no "correct pitch"
Hello , I hope you are well I have a question about Vari Audio Cubase Pro 13 It's not in sync with the project when running and is always in Solo even I haven't hit the Solo button The project ruler continues where it left off within the Vari Audio Editor only if I select VariAudio Editor Window
Thanks, this is the best VariAudio lesson I've watched. But none say if, or how to save the edit? Or mention the pop-up warning about new version etc. Should I automatically Render to save?
@@jefgibbons Thank you. Melodyne was freezing my Mac and also reloading each time I opened up my Project. I guess that VariAudio being integrated with CB works better, easier and uses less CPU?
Please why is it that if i want to do pitch correction, once i shift it one key up or down, the voice will start sounding so weak, and will go away from the normal sound, pls help me
It makes me wonder how all these older artists such as Randy Crawford did such a good job in their recordings. Now singing is in fact reduced to post-recording mathematical wizardry to a certain extent. The artist singing in this example also did a very good job.
What a voice she has, wow....
That’s for sure, she’s a pro!
@@jefgibbons What's her artist name?
I can't believe I've been using Cubase for 4 years, been watching Dom, Chris and Greg and NEVER found you before 😢 😂😂😂
Those guys are great! (but glad you found me too ;)
Everytime I look up something for Cubase. You're the one with the answer. 🔥🔥

Just what the doctor ordered brother! Glad I found you. Clear and concise instruction that I could easily digest! Thanks...Will be back!
Glad to hear it!
Was looking for a video to edit and tune vocals and here it is right on time. And the dude has a new cool look 👍
Jef, Thanks again. I learned some valuable ways to micro edit the volume in Variaudio from your post that I will use in my productions.
This was SO helpful. I'm working on a project right now that needed some minor pitch correct work and it went so smoothly after I watched this video. Thank you!
You make the best tutorials. You gave me a couple of interesting ideas to try. Thank you Jeff. Great to see you well and healthy 👍🙏
Looks like I'll be upgrading cubase. Haven't even used in probably a year. I'm a sworn ableton live user. This is just too cool
Beautiful! I can finally get my vocals right! Thank you, Jef!

+1 for the portal mention
Again a great tutorial. Thanks. PS: Lighting in your studio is amazing.
Thanks Roland!
I've been using Melodyne for years and I actually prefer Vari Audio, it sounds more natural on vocals correction.
Thank you very much! 🎶✨✌🏻🙂
Great tutorial, learned quite a few new things. Thanks so much!
Thank you.
Thank you for making this video, Jef. It's very helpful.
such a powerful tool

100%! A little goes a long way here…
Great video Jef, thank you very much!
Hello. That was very thorough and super helpful. Thank you.
Great video, Gary.
Again great explained. Great thnx!!
Dude you are amazing, your knowledge is priceless, I am so far behind you, I love Cubase, you help me so much. THANKS
Thanks a lot, great video
Hope they add polyphonic/chord extraction like Melodyne

Viva Cubase! :D

super sir
Great setup and videos, man! Are there Ableton plugins that does the same thing? This looks like a Cubase Pro specific feature, right?

We call a voice like that "Smokey" lol
Great voice.

Great intro to variaudio, thanks a lot! This tutorial is very useful, although your singer is way too good 😊
Hi! All these concepts could be applied also for guitars recording right?
Do you know if the "correct pitch" option is available in cubase 10.5 pro? I have "straighten curve" "shift formant" and "volume", but no "correct pitch"
If you have Cubase Pro with Vari Audio
you don't need Melodyne.
Same sound level - but much better integration in Cubase.
Hello , I hope you are well
I have a question about Vari Audio Cubase Pro 13
It's not in sync with the project when running and is always in Solo even I haven't hit the Solo button
The project ruler continues where it left off within the Vari Audio Editor
only if I select VariAudio Editor Window

Saves with the project, no need to do anything else, and go with new version on the popup👍🏻
@@jefgibbons Thank you. Melodyne was freezing my Mac and also reloading each time I opened up my Project. I guess that VariAudio being integrated with CB works better, easier and uses less CPU?
I used to use melodyne only, but vari audio really caught up with the last version!
Have you considered doing a Cubase/Nuendo manual?
What midi keyboard are you using?
Holy Moses...what monitor are you using ?
It’s a tv! I’ve got a link in the description to a video on it…
@@jefgibbons Great, found it. thx. 👍
If i used any amount of real (non-sampled) vocals in my work, i would buy, and install, Cubase this very second.
Please why is it that if i want to do pitch correction, once i shift it one key up or down, the voice will start sounding so weak, and will go away from the normal sound, pls help me

Is it just me or does Cubase not look eerily like Samplitude X Pro? 🤔
Anybody help me with Vari Audio - how do I prevent S/D/Z/F - sounds from getting distorted by pitch correction? What am I doin wrong?
Sometimes I click that chunk then go to the inspector and select “reset all changes” if it gets funky! Let me know if you can’t find that!
@@jefgibbons That worked, ty!!!!
🌚🖤🎶
My English isn't very good, so please don't switch off automatic translation on UA-cam. That helps a lot when listening to your training! Thanks!
I didn’t turn it off… but you can’t see it? What language do you speak? I can turn on languages after an hour or so… most times I forget!
I speak the language german!
I like how white women sing blues it has a 50's middle class feel to it.
Problem is you have to buy Cubase. I had it once and found it quite a convoluted program.
Clean female vocal is no challenge for a tuning tool. Try a tin-whistle or low rough male voices and see vari-audio struggle and fail HARD....
