    wow Jessa! thank you so much, we charged the battery externally and powered the ipad air on. It had been taken to a different shop and they replaced the U6000. Once it came into our shop we immedietly put it under the microscope and almost missed this. Decided to jump into this video and BAMM!! thank you thank you =) Happy customer and happy fan!

    The charge port has a two piece structure; thin flex cable on top of a more solid structure which has copper traces also. The circular "indents" near the crack that are seen in the microscope view are feedthroughs from the top flex layer to the more solid underlayer. When the feedthroughs have disconnected between the layers there is no readily visible defect.

    I was having this problem with my old ipad. My original apple cables are completely destroyed and I've been using non-certified ones for a while. After I watched the part about the tristar (?) chip I dug up and old patched up apple cable and it worked!! Thank you!!

    I have fitted my battery without removing the logic board and snipping the hoop on the battery connector, to allow reinsertion . Battery only lasts 3 hours and charges pretty fast. Battery indicator also behaves strange. Ie gets stuck at low percent for ages.
    Do I have a dud battery, a bad connection or some other issue causing high current draw?

    Hi jess. I built an iPad mini into my dashboard in my car. This is awsome as it means a can have satnav my own list of songs and best of all I can track my car using the find my device. When I 1st built the iPad into the dash the Dension pro gateway would charge the iPad mini no problem. After I updated the iPad it would still communicate with the Dension kit but would no longer charge from it. Just says in the top corner not charging. Now it has not problem charging from a mains power sauce or a battery pack but won’t charge from the Dension kit. My iPhone charges from the Dension kit no problem but the iPad no. Does this sound to you like a software issue that has been done on purpose to stop the use of 3rd party charging or does it sound more like a device issue?
    Ps I found you through Louis as he mentions you a few times on his videos. I just watched your iPad fix on the hikers iPad (RIP to that gentleman)
    I’m greatly impressed by your mad skills and knowledge about the Apple iPhone and iPads. Although I’ll never solider a logic board, I think it’s still good to know how it should be done. I hope you get chance to read this comment and have time to respond. Thanks you for your time Jess

    I'm working on an iPad air 2 that doesn't charge but it doesn't look like a "common problem".
    It stops charging once it has booted up.
    With the original completely drained battery, it charges fine (2.5A) until it's got enough juice to boot up, at which point the amperage drops to .01A, causing it to shut down not long after, rinse and repeat.
    I tried a new, charged battery, it boots fine but doesn't charge.
    Not sure what could cause that.

      Hey there. I have the exact same problem with an ipad 3. It charges until it turns on. Changed battery, port and cleaned all connections. Did you find a solution for the problem? Though, since those 2 pads have roughly 5+ years in between I'm gonna have a wild guess for a charging IC or software problem. Resetting mine didn't do the trick. Haven't inspected the motherboard fully yet. Guess I'll give that a shot.

    • @rzkruspe666
      @rzkruspe666 5 років тому

      @@dersepp4064 Nope.
      I told the client about it and how I'd be happy to spend more time searching for the cause of the problem, even if I charge him close to nothing for the eventual repair.
      But he asked that I put it back together so he can come pick it up and sell it for parts.
      But I now have an iPad 3 with this problem as well, I should have time to check this one when the holiday season has passed, if not before.
      I'd love to hear back from you if you find something on your part.

    I have been using magnetic lightining cables for the kid's ipads. Two different ipads have had issues with low charging 0.5 amps or less but when I clean the port and use a standard non magnetic lightning cable, the amperage is zero! So yes, when I go back to the magnetic Lightning cable, and wiggle it to get a the most amps - usually 0.50 amps, it may charge. So, is it a port issue or a motherboard problem. On one of the ipads, the apple logo flashes on then off, and doesn't charge at all. I tried doing DFU resets on both, and it doesn't show up on Music or Finder. Thoughts?

      iPad Rehab Thanks for the super quick response. Unfortunately I am the owner of this iPad and it's only a week old and it unfortunately slipped out of my hand and met the floor 2 feet below and shattered. I'm trying to repair it myself so I do not have to pay apple $250 to repair it. I've already removed the broken digitizer and LCD and now I'm just waiting for parts to become available. Thanks anyway for the info. I do appreciate it.

    • @JessaJones
      @JessaJones  6 років тому

      An Air 2 is pretty old and the parts price on that is around $175-200, if you cracked the lcd then it is almost certainly going to be cheapest to do the $250 for a really long time. The good news is that you can slap it back together and give it to Apple-their real cost is the lcd. They will likely still take it

    • @Mikehud1984
      @Mikehud1984 6 років тому

      iPad Rehab Oh I know the Air 2 is still expensive due to the laminated display being so costly. This 2018 model is however like the Air 1 and last year's 2017 design where the LCD in appearance at least looks like it is identical to the Air 1's. The digitizer is also a separate part like it was on the Air 1 but it does have different connectors as well as an additional layer that I'm assuming is for the Apple ✏️ capabillity. I think the 2017 model LCD is the same part but I'm waiting until suppliers add the 2018 model as an option to confirm. If that's the case then LCD's I've seen are around $60. I can't imagine the digitizer being more than the LCD so I think a diy repair may be the less expensive route once parts are available in the wild. I will have to be patient I suppose... Besides I already threw out the broken glass and LCD.

    My iPad Air 2 doesn't turn on (even when holding power + home button), but it's consuming 0.84A at 5v when plugged into a charger. I've replaced the battery since I thought it might help but it stays dark... Interestingly it gets pretty hot at the lower part of the motherboard (where the display coil etc. is) but everything else stays cool. Doesn't seem to be a backlight issue because I can't see even the faintest outline of anything on the screen when turning it on.
    Any pointers?

    by fixing a product you are doing three things
    1-by fixing a product you are extending life of a machine (that will help toget you to heaven)jk you help environment, you know how much power and resources used to build it.
    2-you are making profit
    3-you are helping someone who have no money for new phone ,that will mean you are providing service to people thus you are helping a county .
    i hate my life guys
    now for the topic how to diagnose an ipad that is not charging?
    my way
    1-tell user this will take time
    2-put it on charger does it draw anything?
    it does draw 0.5 leave it on charge for few hours
    it does not ,does it charge when u move up the cable ?
    yes ? replace the charge flex
    no? visual check whole motherboard detach it from the housing
    get your multimeter and work your ass through the lines (you should get pp5v somewhere near tristar
    replace tristar if visuals didnt help you
    ..................... at this point i might think it is pmic sorry guys.
