Hello everyone, I’m glad you like my Maco 104 C, this is a great antenna and I’m thinking about building either a 105 C ( 5 element ) or a 106 C ( 6 element ) with a square aluminum boom and a bigger gamma match , so the question is , which beam do you guys think is better , the 5 or the 6 element ? I look forward to everyone’s opinion, 73’s. , from 875, St. Louis.

Last but not least that boom is the same as the shooting star beam. I had one up for around 25 years there were never any issues with water inside the boom. I also had a M106C that I bought used when we took it apart for transport about 1/2 gallon of water poured out. However when I checked the boom parts according to the instructions someone had put the boom together incorrectly.
BUY MADE IN THE USA ONLY!

Had one of those many years ago , been into 11 meters since 1972 , just completed a 11 element vertical , works good , based on a 3 inch square aluminum tube , 6 10 foot sections , chat later

Awesome beam. Do you happen to have or can you make a video about how the gamma match is set up? I want to build a beam from my old superscanner antenna but need to know if and how any insulators are installed. Very well detailed video.

The reason I have 2 towers (one for my beam and one for my Maco V5000) is because If I have to work on my beam, I don't have to remove the V5000. In a few months I'm going to take this 4 element beam down and put up my Moonraker 4, I've always wanted to see for myself how the Moonraker performs for local and skip... And I'm thinking about building a Maco Laser 400 this summer and putting it up in place of the Moonraker 4. So stayed tuned for more videos. 73's

Any updated videos of it actually up in the air ?
Plus I’m full of questions about the apartment looking brick building you live in , or is that like a townhouse set up and you own your part ? If it’s not , did you have to walk on water and heal the blind to get permission ?

@@Dallas-Rife-UDX-347-Tennessee I have a few videos on youtube showing the beam being installed on the tower, and I'll post a new video showing it on the tower as it is now. I own this house and we do not have a HOA here, so all permits go through the City, as you can see I was approved for 2 towers. 73's

The coax where it connects to the S42 on the gamma should be low enough so that no water can follow it and get inside the S42 or the coax end. A drip loop or droop is normally used to prevent that from happening. As it is now water would rush directly down the coax and would flood the S42 and the PL259 which would or could eventually cause a problem.

I'm definitely getting at least a maco 4 but would rather the 105 now that I've had a taste of forward gain. I'll never go back. No more ground planes no Omni nothing all flatside rock on brother

I take it you have no trouble with SWR by putting sheet metal screws in the elements? I was thinking about doing the same, that or having them welded up once I get them set, I’ll never need to adjust them for any reason that I know of, I’ll always use it on 11m, do you see any issues with setting it all up then welding them together? I’m running a Maco M105, I love it, 261 Canyon Hopper southeast Utah waving a hand

Depending on materials used, length will need to be adjusted. Different materials, different affects. Search Yagi Beam design. You'll get all the info you need. Good luck.

I am curious if you would have gotten the SWR that low with the 3 piece Maco boom?
    Looks good!

So much I could say about this video, but I'll be nice and just ask the low hanging fruit questions: Why the hell would you go through the effort of shrink wrapping your element joints and choose not to put $5 worth of end caps on your elements? Forget the rain... you'll get condensation inside the tubing. You may also get bugs up in there. I'm also curious about your tower grounding. I didn't see any. Do you have an 8 ft copper rod in the ground for either tower? Are you grounding your station from 1st or 2nd floor? Do your neighbors throw rocks at your door because you're disrupting their kid's Peppa Pig cartoons and PC speakers with runaway RF? I'm not trying to be a ham snob, just things I think about. I was once an outlaw sidebander. CB SSB is the crack drug that leads to amateur radio! 73!

Before I put this beam on my tower, I did put end caps on the elements and put a small hole on each end cap to take of condensation. The tower is grounded with two 8 ft copper rods and so is the beam. My station is grounded properly and I do not have any issues with my neighbors. I don't consider myself a outlaw sidebander at all, I just enjoy being able to try new things and learn about the hobby of CB radio and antennas. I think it's great that some people like HAM radio, and are more knowledgeable about radio and antenna theory than I am, but I'm having a great time with my little CB radio station and enjoy learning as much as I can about this hobby. So enjoy your Ham radio and keep in mind, I never claimed to know everything nor do I know everything, I'm just proud of my antenna and my station. It's not hurting anyone, and I enjoy it and that's all that matters. 73's

You don't need two towers if you're going to run horizontal with the bean all you have to do is run a longer lift pipe just two to three feet above the the beam and then not your Omni on the extra

Listen to that skip. I just did my first beam yesterday and it came out awesome. Just a little sirio 3 element. Flat across the band. Every channel the sryker 955 has and then some

Sounds like you could of used a pipe cutter on that aluminum pipe. Like what some plumbers use.

Which of the following guestions is true. Lengthening gamma match capacitor rod improves channel 40 match. Shortening capacitor adjust rod improves ch 40 match. Thank you.

    • @bradanderson5696
      @bradanderson5696  3 роки тому +1

A 2" OD aluminum pipe, I can't remember the wall thickness, but it was a lot thicker than the one Maco sent.

    • @jfrphoto01

No, this a parasitic element antenna, all elements are mounted directly to the boom.
