Heil ICM is a fantastic mic. That is my same setup but I run a UR6QW Audio processor with mine. Combined it is crazy audio but i had to reset the radio setting a lot.73s my friend and great vid.
Why would you need your mic gain that high on the ICM mic since it is a high drive condenser mic? Mine drives the radio just fine with a mic gain of 12 to 15% and compression set to 1 or 2. You need to adjust the mic gain with compression off and monitor the ALC and adjust the gain to the point where the ALC only shows about 50% on the meter. Then turn the compression on and adjust it to the point where the ALC is about 2/3 to 3/4 scale and no more. This assures the radio is not being driven into distortion with a lot of IMD products and also allows the radio to put out full power. The ALC circuit on the 7300 is very aggressive and if you overdrive it, it will reduce the output of the radio trying to keep the signal clean. But I see you are operating on 11 meters with it, and most of the 11 meter operators will tell you to turn everything all the way to the right!
With the stock mic on the 7300 I have to have the mic gain at 70% and compressor at 4 to get 2/3 ALC and about 10dB on the compression. But on my 7100 my mic gain is set to 20% with a comp of 4. It's all about your voice characteristics and the microphone you're using...using the heil changed my settings as well. Needed less compression but still needed 60-70% mic gain on my proset. I have a deep low voice. Stellar audio reports, no distortion, full power out, thousands of qsos made without issue on both rigs.
I really like the Heil sound system... I listen to people talking on the ham bands a lot and they sound really good, much better than the stock speaker. I am in the process of getting my Tec and Gen license . I'm going to be installing a Nelson 6 - 80 meter dipole soon in order to get my shack ready for when I do pass the test(s), I will definitely try to make contact with you as soon as I'm licensed. Again, I highly recommend the Heil speaker system, It sounds absolutely fantastic ! 73,
1st, great video! Short and to the point! I'm thinking about getting a Heil studio mic, but I am also running W2IHY's 8-Band EQ and EQ Plus processor. I was wondering if I should leave the TX EQ settings in the IC 7300 at 0 (zero) with running the EQ and processor? KD8EFQ/73 P.S. I also work "27.385 LSB despite being a licensed Ham lol 🤣! No shame in my game!

Wondering how your ALC did with the mic gain at 90%?
Good vid, lil Dude!! 😎
