At that club, my club he is a total legend and his presence is still felt in our style of play today. See our CL semi final run in 2019. That was Cruyff’s doing
I know plenty of people who did not like him one bit and I am Dutch (and not from Feyenoord). There were plenty of Barcelona fans feeling he same, due to his arrogance. Also because he was always into trouble and forced Willy van der Kuylen and Janvan Bevere from PSV ou of the 1974 squad. Mnd you: Van der Kuylen was probably the second best player in The Netherlands but also very modest and without a doubt Van Beveren was our best goalie. But Cruyff needed a fight. The coolest thing about Johan Cruijf, is that he loved football, was as populair as a man could get, but decided to be with his familiy when times were tough, instead of playing the world cup. Insane lvl of intelligence. He`s the best strategic mastermind, soccer has ever seen, yet he`d throw his entire carreer in the bin, for his family. Arguably the most influential figure not only in football but in all of team sports. The idea of position-less play has been widely adopted across the world.
Ah, I don't know why but everytime I hear the name "Cruyff", I feel like something tells me the guy has a hidden talent, that there is a mystery linked with the name "Cruyff". It's inexplicable really, I've never seen him play but have watched his goals in UA-cam. Extra-ordinary footballer and a genius! He played Football and used to make it look so easy. It's definitely sad that the Netherlands couldn't win the World Cup. They definitely deserved it. I pray that he is happy in heaven. The name "Cruyff" will always be in our hearts and minds. Long Live the Legend!
O yes, believe me Cruyff really was as good as they say he was. I first became aware of his genius back in 1971 when I watched him help Ajax beat Panathanaikos in the European Cup Final at Wembley. After that game I knew I had witnessed something truly extraordinary.
@@AJ-lh4fp He is the most childish out of all the legends of football. Yes he is the Great Pelé, but every time someone overtakes a record of his own, he has to lie about everything. Ex : When Cristiano beat his record of goals, he added to his bio a random amount of goals. Another example is when people compared Messi to him. He said : Start by deciding who's better between Messi and Maradona and then compare them to me. Another example of him being childish is when he criticized players for scoring pens. "scoring a pen is a lame way to score". And every two months, his opinion changes about everything. Therefore, Pelé is a fraud.

In present day football there are several players that can match his technical skills. But unlike your average superstar, he made the other players on his team perform way above their normal ability. That's what was special about him.
well you can only really compare him to messi because he was more of a playmaker but someone like haaland lukaku or ronaldo are main st and are their to finish those playmakers passes.
Netherlands never fails to impress the world by giving birth to ICONS AND LEGENDS. Cruyff, Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Bergkamp,... and still counting...
He'll always be part of my Top 5 players of all time. Messi, Pele, Cristiano, Maradona, and Cruyff. They are pretty much interchangeable in terms of ranking.
I respect your ranking! It is similar to mine: 1. Messi 2. Pele 3. Cristiano 4. Di Stefano 5. Maradona 6. Cruyff Although for me, the others can't interchange with the top 2
@@AdvocateSpirit Anyone who does not put Maradona in a top Three has never seen him play, does not understand football or is English. Messi and Ronaldo do not come even remotely close to what he did.
@@jaysimoes3705 Well I'm British*, which is bad enough lol but I have hardly seen full matches of Maradona. I have mainly seen several documentaries, unlimited highlights and countless testimonies from those that played with and against him and journalists, coaches, etc.. The Golden Boy will always be an amazing footballer. Remember we're discussing him as 5th or 3th of all time so there's no disrespect here. Maradona, in my opinion, reached a higher peak than Cristiano Ronaldo but for how long? I say Maradona at Olympian level (legendary) is 1985-1989. Cristiano Ronaldo was Olympian from 2010 - 2018. That's double bro. Maradona (unfortunately) missed two entire years of football at age 30. *Imagine that?* Imagine how many marks we'd deduct from Messi or Ronaldo if they had 2 years of nothing. Initially Maradona was my #1-2 with Pele. It took decades for Messi, Ronaldo, Di Stefano to be seen in my eyes as even coming close but they deserve it. Their dedication, success and talent combined to take them over him ever so slightly. If you had to pick one player to play their entire career for your club and they would do everything they did in their career at your club, would you sign *Maradona or Cristiano Ronaldo?*
@@AdvocateSpirit You ever heard about Napoli? Pretty much answers your question. Maradona is a God in Naples, and there is a reason for that my friend.

Cruyff only played a friendly game in the current Ajax stadium that is currently named after him. Ajax played in de Meer stadium and their bigger games in the Olympic Stadium until 1996. The editing could have been done better in that aspect.
He had the start up and the speed .He is the creator of modern game. He made football collective and easy with ball possession and playing back and ahead .Thank you mister Cruyff .
He stood at the cradle of the current ajax team to. He was the one who said things needed to change a couple of years ago. Of course a lot of other players, managers and coaches are of great influence but ajax at this moment is there because of cruyfs influence. He would love where ajax is heading and where they are now
Its worth looking into the dutch league in the 70's. Especially players like Van Hanegem or Neeskens, that was a time where the dutch league was probably the most competetive and brimmed with quality in the world
What amazes me is how a guy so skinny went on to win multiple CL, ballon do'rs, play in WC final and revolutionize football, with current top managers still following his approach.

Wrong stadium in the clip. Cruijff was born five minutes from stadium De Meer in the Watergraafsmeer quarter of Amsterdam East, the former home of Ajax. The stadium shown in the clip is the Johan Cruijff ArenA, formerly known as Amsterdam ArenA, in Amsterdam Bijlmermeer where Ajax moved to in 1996 after its opening.

The Ajax stadium at the time of Johan's youth was De Meer. The one you showed in the video at 0:36 is the Amsterdam Arena, Ajax home since 1996 I believe.
Once Cruyff said there is a difference between a great footballer and great goal scorer that is why Franz Beckenbauer is above Gerd Muller (The goalscoring machine)
Of course not even to think about it.Cruyff was a nightmare for defenders that time he brought the total football and 2 world cup final he was just unlucky.Simply the best would rate in top 5 of best players the sport has ever seen

But cruyff is on a different level here when it comes to thinking how a whole team should play and influencing many generations of football history eg barca , spain 2010 and probably Germany 2014.
He`s living every boys and mans dream, yet he`d fcking not go to the world cup, because his family needed him.
Bro just this, is legendary.
He didn't play the World Cup because all the Adidas sponsor money was going to the hands of the Dutch FA
Watch videos of him play. He's not just good for his time, he's good in general.

How old are you?
@@ImInYourWalls211 he must be around 10-20 in 1971 so i assume 60-70, yes a grandpa but with nice wisdom
@Pant10, why do you assume he's a grandpa. Maybe he never married? 😀😀
The most influential player and manager in football and would imo be the GOAT if Holland had won the World Cup 74 & 78.

@@massi5417 you called pele a "fraud"
Next video for old school: gerd muller player with so much goals and the only player in the history of football to win UCL, world Cup, ballan do'r and a European golden Boot in his career so this is enough to make a video on him

In present day football there are several players that can match his technical skills. But unlike your average superstar, he made the other players on his team perform way above their normal ability. That's what was special about him.
Can you tell me which player of today's except Messi can match his technical ability?
Thx Mr Cryuff for making or favorite sport more beautiful you'll never be forgotten

well you can only really compare him to messi because he was more of a playmaker but someone like haaland lukaku or ronaldo are main st and are their to finish those playmakers passes.

1. Messi
2. Pele
3. Cristiano
4. Di Stefano
5. Maradona
6. Cruyff
