Zenkai had nothing to do with it.

Another detail people over look, piccolo told goku he could sense brolys power all the way from new planet vegeta to the lookout on earth. We don't exactly know how far it is away from earth but, paragas said earth is in the northern hemisphere from New planet vegeta. So brolys power could be sensed acrossed the universe.
The hardest line I ever heard Broly say was in Budokai 3 during his dragon universe questline. When you go to the lookout and fight Piccolo who calls him a monster, Broly is like: "A monster? No, I AM A GOD!" for the longest time in my childhood I legit thought Broly was a god.

Broly had EVERY advantage at that moment, a better position, with Gohan having a tough time applying strenght, Gohan being tired and wounded, and he still OVERPOWERED Broly. SSJ3 would have smoked Broly. And that was after Broly's zenkai. Teen Gohan as a SSJ2 would have anihilated Broly in the first movie.

The first Broly movies was never accepted as part of the canon. Broly was eventually accept as a canon character. What Toriyama has usually been doing lately is us a manga movir to introduce neelw characters to the arch, such as "Battle of the Gods" (Beerus and Whis) and "Resurrection F" (Golden Frieza). So it's safe to conclude that latest Broly was to eventually introduce Broly into the arch. The same is going to be done with Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo.
That tells me you haven't read the manga. SuperHero already happened in the manga, and it had it's own arc, unlike the other movies, and Broly has been being mentioned since Moro's arc. And now he has finally gained control of himself when he transforms. Gohan Beast has fought MUI Goku and proved himself equal to his father. Stronger, powerwise, but not as good as a fighter.

The movies aren’t canon, but rather spinoffs of main saga story lines, they’re essentially what-ifs like what if Goku fought 100% Frieza and you get Cooler, or what if Cell fought SSJ2 Gohan to the death rather than survive his self destruction and you get Bojack. Broly’s what if is what if the Z fighters fought Super Perfect Cell without SSJ2.

What happened was Broly’s power was overloading inside of him because he wasn’t releasing enough and Goku punched him in his old stab wound so his energy popped like a balloon. DBZ Broly was better than DBS. The only fixes the first movie needed were to remove the whole "hates Kakarot for crying" thing and the ending. The first could be fixed by just making Broly obsessed with just looking for powerful opponents to fight and kill, the second needed a little work. The dub never mentioned his power growing until he would explode so the dumb gut punch made no sense. I feel like a Spirit Bomb would have been better, maybe absorbed and focused to deliver through a punch or something.

Except he isn't. In the second ova, Gohan manages to overpower Broly's grab for a moment, as a SSJ2. Broly had EVERY advantage at that moment, a better position, with Gohan having a tough time applying strenght, Gohan being tired and wounded, and he still OVERPOWERED Broly. SSJ3 would have smoked Broly.
And that was after Broly's zenkai. Teen Gohan as a SSJ2 would have anihilated Broly in the first movie.

The first Broly movies was never accepted as part of the canon. Broly was eventually accept as a canon character. What Toriyama has usually been doing lately is us a manga movir to introduce neelw characters to the arch, such as "Battle of the Gods" (Beerus and Whis) and "Resurrection F" (Golden Frieza). So it's safe to conclude that latest Broly was to eventually introduce Broly into the arch. The same is going to be done with Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo.
That tells me you haven't read the manga. SuperHero already happened in the manga, and it had it's own arc, unlike the other movies, and Broly has been being mentioned since Moro's arc. And now he has finally gained control of himself when he transforms. Gohan Beast has fought MUI Goku and proved himself equal to his father. Stronger, powerwise, but not as good as a fighter.

The movies aren’t canon, but rather spinoffs of main saga story lines, they’re essentially what-ifs like what if Goku fought 100% Frieza and you get Cooler, or what if Cell fought SSJ2 Gohan to the death rather than survive his self destruction and you get Bojack. Broly’s what if is what if the Z fighters fought Super Perfect Cell without SSJ2.

What happened was Broly’s power was overloading inside of him because he wasn’t releasing enough and Goku punched him in his old stab wound so his energy popped like a balloon. For some reason the English Dub made it stupid while the Japanese Sub actually made logical sense😂

DBZ Broly was better than DBS. The only fixes the first movie needed were to remove the whole "hates Kakarot for crying" thing and the ending.
The first could be fixed by just making Broly obsessed with just looking for powerful opponents to fight and kill, the second needed a little work. The dub never mentioned his power growing until he would explode so the dumb gut punch made no sense. I feel like a Spirit Bomb would have been better, maybe absorbed and focused to deliver through a punch or something.

Goku literally went to the south galaxy and saw the destruction from broly. The movie literally takes place in the southern galaxy.
