Chris botti could take a lesson on soul and feeling from this man. Its not always about perfect technique and perfection but what jazz is all about..human imperfections that makes us real. I'm not taking anything away from mr. Botti but i can feel the warmth and life experiences in Tom Harrell like Miles Davis.
Tom plays with heart @ soul. Melodic comes to mind. Very unique & interesting to say the least. Feels my heart with never experienced musical feelings. I love this man inasmuch as Thelonias Monk is also loved. They both have a handicap to boot, albeit very different. They are both giants above any other non-handicapped people. U wouldn’t know it, unless u looked it up. Please do. Theirs are an amazing story that in their playing they are able to express their inside. Love them both. Did I already say that?
Botti is a clown. Just a showman. Empty as a can of a drunk beer. Not worth a second of listening. He does not deserve to be even mentioned under video of Mr. Tom Harrell.
Tom Harrell/Danny Grissett duet "Roman Nights" live in Mallorca, Spain, November 18, 2010, the title song/composition from Harrell's album released that year. In 2017, Grissett said on his website about "Moving Picture...my 7th recording with the great trumpeter over some 13 years." I'm bad at math but in March 2019 I'm so looking forward to hearing these guys play together again live in San Antonio, TX.
I have seen Tom play many times since about the middle of his tenure in the Phil Woods Quintet. This is one of my favorite Harrell ballads and here he plays it as beautiful as a bird would sing it if it knew the notes. Thank you Yury for posting this beautiful tune.
I don’t think any words can adequately describe what a gorgeous performance and sound both these master musicians make . I’m just in love with it.
What a beautiful sound amazing.
To me this man is one of the most moving voices on trumpet and flugelhorn today. Amazing blowing Tom. Yeah.

Totally.
No doubt Tom is the best professional memory in my life. Soulful expression and amazing melody.
