I thought I was the only one! Something about his talent, his passion for the music and his youthful energy, appears to render his early death unfair. I absolutely loved him...and never met him.
LOVELY!!! And so nice to see Clark Terry at the very beginning of this video. Roy Hargrove was such an AMAZINGLY talented horn player. Gone WAY too soon...
We see him nodding approvingly later also. In this live setting, did they play together? That would be nice to see and hear also. Found more - Center Piece, also posted by Mr Wolf.
Clark Terry lived to be 99 years old... he had a great story about Miles Davis. Look it up! As a former Trumpet Player- Miles, Clark, Dizzy, Freddit, Auturo, Maynard, Sean Jones, Roy Hargrove in the order
I had the privilege of seeing Clark Terry live, in the mid 90s. My father and myself both sat right by the stage, and we were captivated for nearly 2 hours by Clark’s playing. We still talk about it now.
I heard Mr. Terry perform live in Denver in the mid '80s. During "Mumbles", the only English he muttered was, "Judge Bork"! 😂 Apparently that means it was approximately 1987 when I saw him! He was such an incredible player. I saw Mr. Hargrove in ~1997 in Denver, too. The world is worse for our loss of those geniuses.
Clark Terry with horn in hand, watching in amazement with the rest of us. By not speaking with his own horn, speaks volumes about the real beauty of Roy's playing here. Just sayin. RIP
Its a shame we lost both Roy and Mulgrew at such young ages . Mulgrew Miller was not just an exceptional pianist , he was a great jazz educator and one of my favourite musicians . Love Clark Terrys expression after Roy's solo. A great rendition of Satchmo's tune. I am sure "Pops" would have approved !!
And he also left way too early in 2013 at age 57. Mulgrew Miller was one of the most versatile and underrated classy jazz piano players of all time. I've ssen him and Roy seperately some time in Den Haag and Rotterdam.
The late, great Roy Hargrove....1 of 1 Just so fortunate to have seen him perform live several times in the Bay Area.....when they go, they're gone......then you really feel the void
I believe that the lower register of most horns is most beautiful. Roy just showed us how beautiful that low register of the trumpet/flugel horn can. It's a shame that he is gone.
I think I got the very most CD of Roy Hardgrove, I was really sad when I heard he is gone, too soon in my opinion. He came many Time in Paris, I Saw him in free concert. You are a very great jazz musician, and trumpet payer, RIP, Sir.
Was able to hear him in London in concert at an old church building. Had just arrived from Belgium and I had been invited to play at a jam session for Toots Thielman who had just passed away. Then in Monterey he played and we played at a jam session together one night and I happened to see him the next morning waiting for his ride. We exchanged some info and I told him I would pray for his health issues.
Wow, it is truly hard to embrace that Roy has passed from this realm proceeding those of us who are left to listen to the timeless expressions of his soul through the medium of music transported and formed into Black Classic Music. On that stage were some of the bost brilliant minds who have not only mastered the science of music theory, but were true initiates of the art form of Black Classic Music. Listen to these men play one is easily drawn into the hearts and minds of the musicians and they harmonically and melodically paint an internal image of the wonderful world that exist in the souls of these musician. I pray that peace, blessing, and mercy will be with those men in their next lives, and I thank them for leaving a legacy for those remaining to enjoy.
Wow- met and played with Mr. Terry when he came to my high school in 1978- saw Roy Hargrove at the 1993 Stockholm Jazz Festival. Only the memories left now. Thank you for posting this.
e is and was a fantastic musician. I experienced him live. Check out Soul-my band played before his band at the 7th Jazz Festival in Seoul, Korea, in 2012. They brought incredible energy to the stage, even a bit earlier than expected, but he was a true, passionate musician. Definitely, much respect from @trumpethacker.
My homie! RHG- Wow! I am still hurt and disappointed there wasn't much news on his passing! The Hip Hop fam showed some love. Is that the late Clark Terry?
I was there at Marciac that night at the “trumpet summit” including Clark Terry, Wynton Marsalis and Jon Faddis. There was a lot of astounding playing but this performance is the one that lives on in my memory. Faster, higher, more intense, more excitable . . . and then, this.
@@robyatkins BTW, have you heard Guido Basso Portrait of Jenny? ua-cam.com/video/2F48gnX59XE/v-deo.html I used to see the Boss Brass at Ontario Place many many years ago now. His playing is just perfect here.
That might be the most beautiful thing I have heard on flugelhorn.
I still can't accept that he has passed on. Sometimes it seems like we need him more here playing that beautiful horn.
I feel you
Exactly
Yeah, it is hard to accept.
What a gorgeously sad - melancholic timbre, wow! The late Clarke Terry was loving it!
I thought I was the only one! Something about his talent, his passion for the music and his youthful energy, appears to render his early death unfair. I absolutely loved him...and never met him.
RIP Clark, Roy, and Mulgrew. Thank you all.

@@braziliancoffee1533 Just so incorrect info doesn’t get repeated - Clark Terry was 94 when he passed.

My favorite trumpet player of all times......

Clark Terry ..... the most wonderful man and trumpet player .. a human treasure never, I hope, to be fortgotten.
Like sailing on a breeze…no one does it better than Roy.
I do it better...
I’ll be listening to this till the day I die
What a magic performance. Amazing legacies left by jazz musicians like Roy, Mulgrew and countless others.
Greatest flugel player of all time. GOAT! ❤️
To be fair, Roy Hargrove did a nice job, too! ;-)
Definitely the best ballad player I have heard.

One of the best of all time. His ballad playing may be the best ever!
Clifford?
Yeah, good point! Clifford with strings is on another level.
Demure and diminutive colossal sound. He loved America. I don't. But he was great. RIP RH.
We miss You and your wonderful trumpet and flugelhorn! Rest in Peace Roy! 🎺😔
Mulgrew Miller on piano - RIP Mulgrew!
We miss you Roy Hargrove!❤
A musical treasure. Every note a blessing
The pianist was a super Genius like ROY ❤

I'm sure he was a killer player but it's a bit busy for mine in this case.
Very beautiful ❤
....certainly the most lyrically gifted horn player ever.
There was this guy a long time ago called Clifford Brown…
The late, great Roy Hargrove....1 of 1 Just so fortunate to have seen him perform live several times in the Bay Area.....when they go, they're gone......then you really feel the void
What a marvelous musician! He brings the music to shine, not himself.
I believe that the lower register of most horns is most beautiful. Roy just showed us how beautiful that low register of the trumpet/flugel horn can. It's a shame that he is gone.
I miss him and his spirit. I remember when he was 19 at Serengeti’s Jazz❤ club in Detroit on Woodward
Beautifully played! Rest in Eternal peace Roy!
WOW Butter Smooth !!!
I can quite literally feel the stress of the day pulled from me.....what a talent...what a loss...what a sound!!!
何故このように穏やかに音楽をコントロールできるのか?技術だけではない精神性、人間性に根差しているように思う。ハーグローブの演奏、間近に聞きたかった。
Absolutely beautiful
Wonderful
Beautiful ❤
What a sweet horn. The sound has a silent sweetness.
One of my favorite Trumpeter’s of all time!
Amazingly classic horn player. Roy gone too soon😢 All the genius are on one stage. Rest in eternal peace 💔 Roy ✝️
The emotional depth of his musicianship and artistry is one of a kind.
Wow. My two favorite flugelhorn players on the stage at the same time. RIP Roy and CT

absolutely sublime playing

Once again, beautifully done by Roy Hargrove. May God rest and bless his soul. 🙏 🕊️
my god how wonderfull is that
The last tone sounds like a warning to us all, incredible
Hopefully we can keep the world wonderful, we will see
Love his tone on the flugelhorn.

The sound ! wonderful my lord and the phrasing ..great only happiness thanks !
Such musical empathy between them.Chet Baker's tone in his tone on his trumpet , especially on the lower notes sounded as mellow as Roy on Flugelhorn.
One of my favorite musicians. Got to hear him once live before he passed away.
Everything about this is awesome.
Seamless, melodic. Memorable.
This was so soothing and I appreciate the sound of a calm river.
Bellissimo omaggio al più indimenticabile e grande. Luis
No matter the style, the composition is highly technical and as it goes along the piece invents more phrases and chords. Excellent
ハーグローブは、優しい音色、嫌味の無い音色、かつ技量を決してひけらかすことのない真の実力者。ライブで聴きたかった。
BRAVISSIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
grande pathos ❤
Even at 360 quality that fluegelhorn sounds fantastic.
That was absolutely lovely!
It is my first time to hear it.But I love it. And I love Roy
🔥🔥🔥 One thing about Roy Hargrove, when he gets to the end of a tune, he makes sure to put his amazing signature sound and lyrical phrasing on it!❤❤❤❤
RIP...

Super
Flugelhorn. Better suited to slow melancholic pieces than the Trumpet. ( I play both )
I love hearing him rip his fiery solos, but then I see things like this, and wonder if this was the best part of his game. Gone waaaay too soon.
My homie! RHG- Wow! I am still hurt and disappointed there wasn't much news on his passing! The Hip Hop fam showed some love. Is that the late Clark Terry?
Yes. It's him.
Indeed, apart from his jazz work, he also played on albums by D’Angelo and Erykah Badu.
A comment is on the way, by means of the International Trumpet Guild Journal: a new poem for Roy, with comments for Clark and Mulgrew.
Mulgrew Miller !!!
Need to add “Clark Terry - audience” to the personnel listing…….
...💞
💜💥
Anybody know what make/model flugelhorn that is he's playing?
It's an Inderbinen hand made flugel.
Can anyone tell me what flugelhorn is playing here?
How sad
What brand flugelhorn is he playing?
Transcribe Mulgrew's solo, analyze it and your II-V's will be in a class all their own.
That might be Roy Hargrove, but that's Clark Terry. No offence, but Clark Terry was next level.
