  • A tour of the Elio Motors plant in Shreveport, LA

    What scares me is that the parking lots are completely empty & there is literally nobody in the plant except the guy on the golf cart. There is still a Colorado pickup truck chassis on the line. The plant looks just as it did years ago when we first saw it.
    I would have expected to see something to have been done in the plant over the last several years!

    Do this again with actual production. I patiently await my Elio! I'm reservation holder no. 18,--- and have purchased some stock. Wish I could help more with getting excitement to grow and people to get on board.

    I have been following this for 3 yrs..The only thing that is true is ready to go into production NEXT yr...The bad thing is NEXT yr never gets here. Save your money till they are at dealers

    • @mipilot30
      @mipilot30 5 років тому

      What dealers? There has to be a vehicle and this company never intended to build anything for the public except a scam. This video is a complete lie. We just saw a tour of a former GM facility and the narrator was paid to lie about what was done in the past at that plant as if something was going on relevant to Elio production. He did this for the express purpose of deceiving the public into investing in a non-existent vehicle. Elio never owned that plant or held a lease on the property. The contents were sold off and that all this farce was ever about, making money and building nothing but an illusion.

    Why is plant empty? Real interested in one of your cars but beginning to wonder if you are ever going to make them or sale them. Seen first ad over three years ago!

      Two years later now and no closer to production. They are actually further away since they wasted all that money and have nothing to show for it.

    SO EXCITED! KEEP IT UP GUYS! I'm looking forward to test driving one!

    • @mipilot30
      @mipilot30 5 років тому

      Keep what up? There is nothing to test drive. Never was and never will be. What is it with you people who deny the reality of this scam. Industry experts and financial analysts have stated from the onset that there never was a business model or business plan that indicated this vehicle could ever be built and sold. The plan was to fleece as many potential customers and investor as possible and deliver nothing.
      This video is a complete farce - the only thing Elio ever fabricated. Elio never owned or leased this former production facility. They lied about that along with everything else they lied about to scam money from people who believed the lies.
      No one is that stupid or incompetent that they make every possible mistake, fail in every way possible and come up with absolutely nothing but victims of a crappy scam.
      They had enough money to design and order parts, assemble the vehicles with an off the shelf engine from Honda, known for reliability and quality, and thus started the cash flow phase of operations. Not Paul Elio. He wanted money for nothing. Deposits and investments allowed him over a hundred million dollars to produce nothing. If that's not a scam, nothing is.

    Elio stock dropped all the way down to $6.79 today at close of market 1/10/17. Make no bones about it with Elio's stock in free fall, little cash on hand & high debt, the jig is up & the death knell has begun for Elio.

      You're right. I live in Shreveport and the plant is STILL empty. Land Rover was interested in the plant, but couldn't obtain it because of this Elio "thing", which is showing absolutely NO progress! People in Shreveport are PISSED!! Most of us think this is all just a sham. They're going to take as much money from people making "reservations" as they can, and then file for bankruptcy!

    • @Adrayven

      It's really all about funding now. They have the money to get to the last stage; production.
      However, their is equipment required for building the engine/trans and other parts. Thats what the fed loan is for.. if they get it, it looks like Elio is golden.. They were pushing for Q4 to start ramping up and start shipping early 2017..
      If they don't get it; obviously, they will again need to push back the timeline.. Honestly, this project has always been a realistic and a good idea, but money from beginning to the end has been the challenge.

    • @mr.paladin8721
      @mr.paladin8721 8 років тому +1

      Adrayven There will be no Q4 ramping up for production in 2017. They will very lucky if they get the 100 fleet cars on the road by the end of the year, and if they do, then they have to wait to put miles on them and see what needs fixing, then they have to do some re-engineering of everything that needs work (and there will be a lot of things pop up when you start putting miles on them), then after they work out the problems they'll have to upgrade the fleet vehicles and continue to the test to see if everything is fixed. It won't be (let's be realistic) and there will be more "tweaking." By then it will be Q2 of 2017 and then they can START getting the production line set up. That takes a minimum of 3 months normally. IF they start production at that time it will Q4 2017 (at the very earliest) to see any roll off the line. Of course that's looking at it very optimistically. Let's say they don't actually get the fleet cars on the road this year (and they probably won't) because look how long it took to make E1 and they have 22 more to go and it's already the middle of July. It's going to take the rest of this year just to get the test vehicles done and then allow time for testing. It's questionable if they'll even get through the E-series testing stage this year. Then plan on the fleet cars coming out the end of Q1. They should be done testing them by the end of Q2 2017. They should have problems solved and re-engineered by the end of Q3. It will take Q1 2018 just to get the assembly set up. Mabey first cars by Q2 2018. That's a much more realistic time-frame. After all, it takes 5 years to develop a car and Q2 will put it right at 5 years since their first prototype. I've been predicting 5 years from the very beginning.

Don't rush now to get to market you've come this far the right way stay the course. It is hard to wait but in the end it will be worth it.

      I'm number 700+, all-in, and they are really doing a bang-up job getting everything ready to go. They have the biggest backers in the world and it appears at this point, way too many employees sucking up the last bit of capital, and the part that bothers me is they keep hiring more very high-priced upper-echelon employees. Where is all that money coming from? Or are they working free to see is they can work into a real job? Anyway, at this point, it's just money (in fact at every point along the way it's been MONEY). I think they have the expertise and certainly the talent (working for them) and all the big-name suppliers that's needed to make it work. It would be a shame to see it fall apart at this point. But even though it looks like it's headed for a dead-end tunnel, why would all those high-priced executives jump on board of a train headed for a cliff? There's a lot they are not telling us. They try to make us feel like we are in the loop with all the emails and updates, but they aren't really telling us anything that gives us hope. It's all sales hype at this point. When I got on board in 2013, they said it would be in production in 6 months! LOL

    • @kscipkkkk
      @kscipkkkk 8 років тому

      +Mr. Paladin. Quit being so negative, you have obviously never developed a product for a company or yourself. There is an incredible amount of work that goes into the development of just a single new product let alone an entire automobile. I am surprised they've achieved this much this quickly considering all they have to do, however that's what a lot of the right people accomplish.

    Hate to be a Chicken-Little but, there isn't one Elio Motors rep posting here.
    This factory tour looks unchanged from about two years ago.
    *IF* there are SOME vehicles made, where are they?
    ___ LASTLY ___
    As time goes by, production dates pass as does sales date, WHERE is the head cheese to explain all this?

    • @mipilot30
      @mipilot30 5 років тому

      Explain all this? You're kidding, right? Elio blew through all the money and came up with nothing. How does anyone do that unless they are a crook or amazingly stupid? He never told any of the investors or depositors how little progress had been made at the time he took their money. He presented a picture that was radically unlike the reality of the company's true state of affairs. At no time was a realistic production date ever given. That didn't stop Elio from giving a new date every year despite the baseless nature of his predictions. He knew, every time he fave a new production date that he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of starting production.

    I worked at the Mitsubishi plant in Normal, IL for 26 years. This video brings back lots of memories! Maybe I should offer my knowledge of some of the systems and processes during the model launch? I'm retired but it would be exciting to be at the start of something big. We felt that way during the launch of the Eclipse but mismanagement and a lack forward thinking led Mitsubishi to abandon the plant and it's loyal workforce after 28 years............. and move to NIGERIA! @drive2survivex 8 років тому +2

      it also took tesla, a company that started in 2003, by the way, 5 years to get their first vehicle into production.
      Tesla's also cost 60-100k for a car, an amount thats not attainable by alot of people. the new model 3 is going to be 35k, still more than most americans want to spend on a vehicle. not to mention you have to now wait until 2019 to even see a production vehicle for the masses because they are all sold out. Compare and contrast, it all depends on what people want to spend on a car.

    • @xXTECHxKNIGHTXx
      @xXTECHxKNIGHTXx 8 років тому +1

      Apples and oranges in comparison here, Elio is using mostly off the shelf parts, Tesla is all proprietary from my understanding, so that drives up costs.

      +Ride2Survive, tesla make cars, even if Elio motors do produce this, it's not a car. that is why there is the requirement of a motorcycle endorsement on your license

      @drive2survivex 8 років тому

      only in very few states. also since this is considered a motorcycle, not only are they cheap to insure, to register, you can use it in the carpool lanes by yourself. even if they do require an endorsement they arent all that hard to get. do your research before commenting

    For me, from the beginning of "Elio" I was extremely excited about the vehicle. About halfway through the Elio marketing efforts I started to see through the hype. Now at the very least it would take more than another year to coordinate suppliers, stock parts, hire and train assembly line workers then start full production "if" everything fell into place without any glitches AND the remaining needed revenue was raised. At this point it doesn't look like anything will roll of the assembly line for quite a while. Another evasive 240 million to go? I'm still hoping Elio will come to fruition sooner than later.

    Already over $123 million in debt. Read their most recent SEC filing, they are not in good shape. They even admit there is a very good chance this will never happen in their report. Shreveport City Councilman. Ken Epperson who pushed hard for Elio to get the GM plant here in Shreveport just resigned yesterday for no apparent reason. Local govt here is beginning to belive they were hoodwinked and are investigating whether or not to yank the deal because Elio is not meeting deadlines and bringing jobs to the area yet.

    I hate to be a doubter but this video doesn't give me any encouragement. There is literally Nobody in this plant other than the guy in the video & the parking lot is completely empty. The plant appears about the same as it did 2 or 3 years ago. Paul Elio needs 240 Million more dollars before anything rolls off the assembly line & he doesn't have it & does not know where he is going to get it. I would be "all in" on an Elio but not untiil I see some more progress.

But then why not hire a few hands to start moving that stuff to where you need it now and get a jump on things then shoot the video and show that stuff is where it needs to be instead of shooting this video and showing alot of empty spaces and saying we have the parts but well just not here right now where we need them but we can move them here.

I am #102? or there about and also #23xxx, as well as a stock holder like many of you. Paul Elio has the balls to make it happen. Have faith, he looks mild mannered but there is tiger under his skin. Go Paul Go!!!

      I agree. While it isn't going to happen overnight; it looks to me like things are in place or falling in place for it to happen. I know that there is some skepticism in regard to the millions needed to begin full production. That is what the two sets of "beta" vehicles are for. The first 25 test vehicles and then the 100 that will be put into fleet service will demonstrate the Elio's "fit" in the real world. If it "fits" as we expect it to; commercial loans and additional stock offerings will generate the needed revenue.

      Harley Davidson sold 270k motorcycles in 2014. These are expensive units that are mostly ridden on sunny days and usually not used for daily commutes. The Elio will be competitively priced against the low end Sportster model and will give better mileage and creature comforts. Not to mention that it will go up against automobiles and win converts from car drivers. So if Harley can sell that many impractical vehicles, Elio should do just as well. BTW, I've owned and ridden motorcycles for over 40 years and I can't wait to get my hands on an Elio.

    • @bobbywatts3626

      Nick must be a pimp for Elio.... How do you promote something that does not exist and there is no finished car, not even one...Just a few mules that are nowhere close to the promised car, hell even the engines in those mules are not the supposed engine. And you can not compare Elio to HD... HD has a good reputation for selling real and completed products, all Elio has sold are t-shirt, bumper stickers and a ghost car.

    as one being in the automotive business. I do not believe that the people making the comments that they are really know what it takes to actually start up a company, let alone a car company. One that is regulated to death by the good ole US of A government. The gentleman making the comparison with Tucker and Elio. If Tucker had the hoops to jump through that Elio motors does I believe that they would be at about the same progress point. One thing in common with Tucker and Elio, PASSION! Passion for the idea, passion for the vehicle, passion to offer the American public a choice. You talk about Volvo (owned by Geely Motors owned by China, yes everything in China is owned by a majority of the ChiComs with TRILLIONS behind them) or Land Rover owned by Tata Motors (headquartered in Mumbai owned by an Indian with BILLIONS behind him)Paul Elio truly is a Tucker of the new Millennium fighting our government and each individual State of these United States for the right to sell the vehicle (Something of which TESLA still hasn't got completed and has borrowed Billions of our money, We The Peoples money from the government to do so and has been given free money as well). To buid a new pick up truck actually takes over 1 Billion dollars in development, testing and passing all of the FMVSS, CMVSS, ECE etc... qualifications to be able to sell it on a lot of a distribution network over a hundred years old! FMVSS by the way stands for Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, C stands for Canadian and the ECE regulations come from the Haig in Europe for the European regulations. This explanation is for Brandon, the so called engineer who claims that engineers are retards and calling himself one at the same time. I'm a betting man and he probably isn't an engineer. So for all of you people in Shreveport that think nothing is going on you can thank the UAW for General Motors closing down what would be their second newest plant because Louisiana is a right to work state (negotiated in a contract to keep a plant in Missouri open). You Nay Sayers will be eating a lot of crow and mud bug heads when the vehicles start rolling off the line. Those of you who think you know really don't even begin to understand the complexities involve with an American, hiring Americans not counting on a free hand out from the government to start up a company as complex as this venture is.

    I am a retired Certified Manufacturing Engineer and Life Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. I have designed and built many new product production lines in the analytical instrumentation field for everything from chart recorders to Mass Spectrometers for more than 35 years, not automobiles, so you can take my observation with a grain of salt. First, the scale of this former GM truck plant production line appears grossly out of scale for the Elio, like a small boy trying to wear daddy's pants. Polaris only needed 111,000 sq. ft. to build its Slingshot line which retails for $19K- $22K. Second, the facility overhead expense to build a $6,800 retail vehicle would be enough to sink it financially. Don't get me wrong, I tried the Elio on for size at the Barrett-Jackson Auction last year, loved the design and immediately shelled out the $100 deposit to be at the back of the line. I've wasted more than $100 on a bad night out, so I won't be disappointed if I die before get to own one.

    How is Elio paying for this empty factory? What are the monthly cost of paying off loans, utilities, property taxes, maintenance, insurance, on something like that?
    And what about tooling? And engineers to run the plant? And competent line workers?
    This is a massive high-risk undertaking.

    Why would Elio Motors post this? Driving around in an empty factory just confirms that they are at 0% in terms of going to production.
    I don't mean to be an Elio hater. I would buy one as soon as they come out. I have a long commute and would love to get 80+ MPG. Even with the cheaper gas we have now the car would almost pay for itself in fuel savings.
    Unless they get that DOE loan, which I don't understand why DOE hasn't approved or disapproved it by now, they won't be able to make this car. Even if they got the loan tomorrow, going from empty factory to producing hundreds or thousands of cars a day would take a year or two.

    • @TheBowersj
      @TheBowersj 8 років тому +1

      They are securing the DOE loan now by making the E-series cars, once the cars are tested for safety and meet the DOE requirements, they will start purchasing the necessary items and finish the factory floor. Should be by the end of this year.

    Last year at this time we were told that Elio's would not be rolling off the assembly line in 4th quarter 2016 after all. However, Paul Elio said that as a consolation prize Elio would build 100 pre-production cars for fleet buyers in the 4th quarter 2016. Well it looks like that's not going to happen either & we will be lucky if those 100 cars are built in late 2017. This company has been making promises & baiting us along since 2006. I can't wait forever so I went ahead & bought a new car & will sit back amused now & see what happens. Good luck guys it's going to be a long wait, don't plan on these rolling off the assembly line in 2017, ain't gonna happen. The Shreveport plant is way bigger than Elio needs, why not relinquish the Shreveport plant to another buyer & find a smaller plant to build the Elio if & when it ever gets built? (My estimate 2020).

    This scam will make the record books. The PR and videos are designed to show some sort of reality, but anyone who is familiar with the automobile development process knows that this is all show and not legitimate. The plant is a relic of what used to be built there and there is no tooling that can build the Elio. They proudly show the fuel fill station--give me a break !! They also pretend to own the plant which also is not true. To pretend to show the various empty stations and how the Elio will pass through them is almost criminal.
