John, thank you so much for the detailed assembly video; BEST SEEN YET!. I expect delivery of my remaining DDIs from my WW F-18 MIP order today for continued assembly/set up. Your videos are awesome and extremely helpful. I am confident others will benefit too from your videos (makes our lives easier)👍👍👍!
That is really cool man! I think you're like me, because you seemed to have fun putting it together LOL. I love stuff like that. I have a bit of a simulator cockpit going on myself. The stuff they have available these days is just out of this world and getting better all the time
John, thanks for the detailed assembly video - made my life a lot easier!
I have Pre-ordered this. I have other win wing products but had no idea that this was in the works until your last video popped into my feed. Thanks for getting this out there. I'm looking forward to your sim app and dcs setup vid.
I love how you put all of this together! I cant wait to see the new files
Just got my setup in the mail so thanks for taking time to do this video. Very helpful
great usefull video showing an example on how you assemble this kit. without this I would still struggle since the pdf manuals dont show in details some steps. thank you.
Thankyou I couldn't of done mine without your video.
hahahha I was just looking at mine and decided to do the mounting the way you were talking about doing it :D Nice to see we weren't being crazy with those ideas :D
Awesome video! Would be great if you could also show how you configure this setup in software.
Nice work!
They could have saved so much materials and just assembled this stuff to a higher degree at the factory. I ordered one of these and it's in shipping, but now I'm dreading the assembly. Not because I can't do it...but be cause most of it should have already been done and they've left it to me to complete.
Looks very cool, would love to have this if i could afford it 😅
Thanks for making this video John. My UFC & HUD arrived today and I was a bit uncertain about the bracket connections. My units are being added to a pre-existing Monstertech frames so the brackets with a few socket bolts and T-nuts make it very neat and strong set up.
Hi, I have virpil deskmount myself and was wondering how you attached this stuff?
@@robertcras8151
Hi Robert, I'll send you pictures and instructions.
@@robertcras8151
O.K, the Virpil mount is 76mm wide and Monstertech is 80mm.
I used the 45° angle brackets that came with the WinWing PTO panel between the mount and UFC bracket. As an alternative you might be able to use storage system components from a hardware store or CNC parts.
Because the angle brackets fit to the outside of the T-slot I had to remove some of the plastic from the interior side of the WinWing mount with a Dremel so the 45° bracket is recessed and it aligned properly. As the Virpil is a bit skinnier than the Monstertech you might not need to do this.
Hope this makes sense. I've taken pictures but having trouble attaching them.
Cheers
@@dougalwilson4555 can i send you my email in a secure way?
@@dougalwilson4555 Looked at the sizes and when you add the brackets the space between them is 80/81MM. The Virpil mount is 76mm. it might be possible to attach 2 steel bars/plates (dont know the English word) on the outside of the mount going up with a 2mm thickness with 2 holes to screw to the mount and 2 (4?) holes to attach the UFC. Is the AMPCD Attached to the HUD unit or does it need to be attached to the Virpil mount too with 2x2mm spacers?
Thanks for the video - really useful to see how it all fits together before mine arrives. Could you perhaps do a short video of the screen setup within the WinWing SimApp application? Thanks 👍
Great video. I need to buy 2 of the DDI's for my Harrier build.
this is super cool, I could only dream of having this though!
Ts why the good lord invented right angle screwdrivers! The staple of all electronics techs….I have heaps….Phillips straight post drive torx secure torx…..but I do use them almost daily.
It would be awesome to basically have an F-18 cockpit in real life
good stuff! Thank you
I NEED THIS
Thanks John. I kinda like your idea of just one mounting solution and just marry up those two DDIs with the UFC. would you be able to share the STL file for it?
After getting it all together I decided to go ahead and use all 3 clamps. I do have the STL file, but it didn't print it or know if it will work. I'd be happy to share it if you want to give it a shot. I did print a thin test piece to make sure the holes lined up. In the real jet the outer DDIs are tilted back just a tad, so the STL (at least how I have it, wouldn't allow for that tilt like the clamps do.
@@DCSTex I'm planning to do the side by side option. Already purchased M5x120mm bolt screws and plan to print the spacer but was wondering what is this STL design you have. Just a spacer or a special bracked you designed? if so, is it something you can share? thanks

Did you end up coming up with a solution for new 3d printed panels to fit the larger DDIs?
yes. I'm about 85% done with it. New video coming in the next few weeks once I get it all finished and working. I like it immensely better than the original design. Its modular with the top half mounting directly to the winwing brackets
JHust devastating the screens wont work with vr!!! I have the bottom half of my vr headset cutout to see the physical cockpit, so quite upset the screens wont work aswell :(
Once you purchased these, what was the shipping time? I am considering ordering the Top Gun MIP but, I can’t find out what shipping times are?
about a week for things that are in stock
At the 9:19 mark of your video, you show the bottom screen attached to complete the center console. That is the problem I am having, how do you attach the hud to the bottom unit?
they both attach to the same desk bracket
I found the problem, it was the metal plate and the spacers that I overlooked. Thanks for your reply.
8:43 you might want a ratchet for this
Thanks for the video John.. I'm really close to purchasing this, But on problem I can see. I know you use a chair mount center stick, I have a desk mount center stick. Do you see any way that the desk mount and the MIP will work together or am I pooched for having the desk mount.
check out the mount Matt Wagner had predator mounts make for him. facebook.com/groups/HOTAS/permalink/5578982935510877/
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I was wondering, are the standby instrument brackets shown around @12:00 3d printed? If so, where are those files shared? Openhornet perhaps?
I designed all those. There is a link the description of this video to my 3D printed cockpit video. In the description of that video there is a lnk to the google drive with all the files
@@DCSTex Awesome! Did you get the dimensions for those stby instruments from the real ones?
@@boggy8557 no, someone else had made the UFC files, so I use that and the Thrustmaster cougar dimensions and scaled it off the drawings in the back of the F-18 NATOPS. Its pretty close except the cougars are smaller than the DDIs in the real hornet so it throws off the outermost controls about 3/4 ". I'm currently redoing it with the Winwing MIP, so it should be much closer after that. I got to sit in a F-18A cockipit this weekend at an airshow and nothing felt drastically out of place. Biggest thing I noticed is the stick height in the real just is really low.. almost below your knees.. part of that is the floor seat height is also really low. The real jet also has a lot more depth between the upper and lower sections. I couldn't really do that due to structure concerns with 3D printed parts
Hi John. Nice video. I finally got my MIP. Did you print the spacers you were talking about? I have the same issue myself. I really would like to have the MFD's mounted higher.
no I actually ended up using the included brackets on the L&R DDIs. I like being able to tilt them independently of the UFC
If I look at an actual picture of the FA18 they are indeed higher. Making such an awesome replica and then make the MFDs too low, strange WinWing missed this....
@@DCSTex, I found that the align correctly when attached to my desk. I also ended up using my Wonwar Left+Righ DDI's as they are a true replica of the F18's. I use the Winwing DDI for the AMCPD. It now looks exactly as in the Hornet.
Would you be willing to share the plans for the 3d printed brackets you added so you could direct connect the side mods? Thinking I'd like to try and do the same with mine
I decided against them.. I like being able to tilt the DDIs independantly
Did it work out with your 3D printed adapter? Mind sharing the .stl files?
no, I ended up using the included mounts for the DDIs so I could tilt them independently of the UFC
Hello sir, I am hoping you can help me out. I just purchased the Top Gun kit and i am a little confused about the display. I understand the Display panel has one usb c but I am wondering about the screen, The screen has a 5 volt usb power and a usb 3.0 to P.C HDMI. Do I need both from the screen? if so than I seem to need three more cables. I was hoping the usb c did the power and data. Anyway can you help please.
Only the USB 3.0 is needed. The screen pulls power from it. I'd recommend using a powered hub and not going directly to Motherboard
@@DCSTex great thanks so much, I was thinking that I was going to have to buy cables. Funny I got confused when I seen multiple connections on the displays. For what they charge I didn’t want to mess up the display lol. Thank you again.
Awesome video, does this mfd work with the DCS A10?
Yes it shows up as controller in DCS, you can bind it to whatever you want
Good review. Tried ordering this the minute of - then their website shit the bed on me..
