      @GGigabiteM Рік тому +58

      @@countersteer713 $100 to change a fuse is a deal. Fuses and relays go for highway robbery prices these days, and troubleshooting electrical gremlins is an absolute nightmare. Fuses don't blow for no reason, they have to figure out why the fuse blew so it doesn't blow again. If they don't find the problem the first time, or the problems are layered, they can easily go through $100 in fuses.
      As someone who has redone wiring harnesses and done electrical gremlin hunting myself, I'd gladly pay someone else at least that much so I don't have to do it anymore.
      I remember being at my buddies shop a few years back when some honda SUV rolled in. It had three cooked relays from age (points carboned up and arced out.) It also had several blown fuses. EACH relay was proprietary and only available from the dealer at almost $40 a pop once tax was added. The fuses were $5-10 a pop. Once he factored in his time, it was going to be $200+.

    The main reason why an oil drain plug gets stuck is due to sludge. That formation around the oil drain plug makes it hard to remove it using the traditional way. The sludge forms around the drain plug because the oil in the engine has exceeded its oil change time. The oil then tends to oxidize under high temperatures. During oxidation, the molecules of engine oil break down. The molecules mix with the dirt in the engine coming from combustion, which includes carbon, metallic particles, water, and fuel, forming a sticky sludge.

    I was taught in school (for plumbing)...
    "How tight does it need to be?"
    "Tight enough not to leak"
    ...no tighter than that.
    That being said, in the world of oil heat service, there was one burner mechanic around here, who has passed away now, who felt the need to tighten the absolute bejesus out of everything, to the point that I'd go in for a service, try to spin off an oil filter... and it takes a 2 foot pipe wrench with a backer and you have to pop the bleeder or leave the tank valve open until you break it free so you don't blow the pump seal.
    "Let me guess, Lawrence was the last one who worked on this?"
    "How did you know??"
    "Because it shouldn't take a 2 foot pipe wrench to undo a filter."
    Overtightened fittings are now referred to as "Lawrence'd on"
    I was in a training course once with some people who had also worked with him in another company, the instructor started talking about the need to stop overtightening a particular screw, and everyone who had worked with/for Lawrence all started looking at each other knowingly.

    First car I ever owned, I over torqued the drain plug...the head of the bolt broke off the drain plug. Glad my local shop was handy and got the bolt out for me.

    I now work at a dealership, and we got torque wrenches pre set to a certain ft/lb for both drain plugs and oil filters

    It’s not the “mom and pop shop” or the “dealership”. 100% , it’s the technician working on the vehicle.
