Patrick proves that he can think on his feet and is a skilled photographer in every sense of the word. Adapted to whatever conditions present itself. I fear for Patrick’s ego though, it’s going go thru all four floors of that house lol
Patrick's images looks soooo cool! but man the other one is a hole another level. It's like she coming from the jungle and entering the cave. it's so meaningful
Well done Patrick! I think you really took advantage of a less then (originally thought) ideal scene and ran with it. Great creativity! Josh did a great job too, but he's right, the background was the weakest part of his image. It really needed to be more dark and foreboding to really give the emotional contrast against his super cute daughter.
Back in the seventies there was a project called Ninos de la Playa de Ponce, as I remember, kids from the hood, age 5 - 13 were given some basic cameras, and the results were put in an ehibition and on a local newspaper. I wonder if dad put a Pentax Q1 or Q7 in ger hands on a trip like this one and see what she would produce. Should be vey interestng...
This is my favorite photography channel by FAR! I get to see really professional work get done (unlike almost any other channel I watch) and the production is pretty good.
Beyond the contest, I think it's great that you're scouting and showing local places. Looking forward to a beach contest, and a historic building contest.
Lee and Patric, thank you very much for taking from your busy time to give my wife and I the opportunity to meet you guys. The meet up was amazing! Oh I’m Jose Colón (the guy with the beard, tattoos and the green US hat). Again if you need help with anything count on me, I’m retired and bored so it will be a honor to serve you (and free). If you need an island guide, help with license or ANYTHING ELSE count on me!
Those are called wimp spiders, in the island they are called guaba. They are harmless. Scary... but nothing to be afraid of them. From what I know they don't produce webs or had venom. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amblypygi
I'm smiling all the way through. Fs, you guys are really on to something here. Music for the different story lines, tale of two photographers, it's all good!
Patrick's photo can be an advertisement for cave adventure. The other image is that of a lovely child playing in the backyard. Outstanding how Patrick produce such a high grade image on his feet!
I have to admit that I find Patrick's photo to be a shade better than Josh's. Although they both were good. However, could one really call what Patrick did true compositing? I understand Patrick took multiple images at long exposures. And basically used a magnetic lasso in Photoshop CC to cut around Robert on his favorite exposure and pasted it to another exposure(s). It was still the same scene though. I always thought compositing was taking subjects from one scene and placing them in another, more exciting scene and tweaking both to make them appear as it was the same photo. At any rate, it is something different upon which to think.
Patrick's photo was super clean I like josh's as well. these videos are awsome becuase it shows the real creativity of everyone similar styles of photo but both completely different. Nice job Patrick
I like the cave and the video My Island has some many Places to go .The Prince's The Best Try other Program in the bio bay in Vieques is going to be Amazing
Dont worry there is no dengue and Chikunguya around, i mean i suppose there is always a risk but they havent been any cases in a while i suppose, nothing to worry. Chikungunya is not deadly but its painful and sucks.
I really love the image of the caver, Robert, and how he was lit. I think it was the wrong decision to re-size him, though, it just looks off. Something looked a bit unnatural when the final image was revealed, and I thought it was just the added smoke that made it look a bit cartoony, but when Patrick said he had cut him out and made him bigger it made sense. However technically good the editing is, he still looks like he's been re-sized, and that's a shame.
16:34 ... i think if you make the model read ( in his mind ) posters with words carefully chosen can give you what you looking for: Confidant =words from the history of war. Sad = words from mother about the death of her son. Happy = Christmas songs. Stupid = words from my post .... 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
Props to both, great work! But wow Patrick, fantastic image overall, has a great feel to it. Looks like a Patagonia ad or something... Lol. Josh's image was very strong, the only negative thing was the hard lighting from the back ground as they spoke about. For what you two had to work with though you both did an amazing job! Keep up the great content!
I too agreed the background it's too bright but I choose Josh's photo. The girl's expression says it all. It's more dramatic and the picture truly tells a story. The little princes is concerned about what she's going to find in the cave; a dragon? Wonder if a wide angle or a fish eye lens would have help.
The reason why, I think, people bitch about composited imagery is not because it is not photography. A photograph is A moment in time captured on the sensor. A composite makes it a collection of moments which takes away the essence of the craft.
I vote for Patrick because of the final grading is closer to my taste but I have to say that both images lack some kind of proportion. I.e the boulder is very close to the man somewhat, and the right of the image seems a bit empty (nitpicking).
Both images are alright. Had massive high hopes for the Belle shot based on his folio but it was "just ok". I'd love to see that one done again, tons of potential there.
A true photographer uses every tool available, that aids in the goal. Just like carpenters use a wide variety of tools, to build, and are still called carpenters. Photographers should do likewise.
Patrick have to agree the pose spoils the photo, and Josh's photo average without a strobes. Good lesson to use a strobe or flash at least and a good model would have nailed to poses in no time at all with both shoots. Thanks for uploading.
Pòl MacDhòmhnaill not sure why Josh needs a strobe. I think we both showed that hot lights can be just as useful. I think I would have just liked to see Josh change out the background for a more night time looking background and he prob would have won. -P
@@FStoppers That's what I'm getting at is the background control with use of a strobe on cave and his daughter, as the sky took my eyes away from looking at the detail of the dress and I wanted to see how the light fell upon his daughter. You both had a very tricky places to shoot. I do love the use of light planting and beam from flashlight. I've been wanting to shoot cave or man-made tunnels underground and from this video we can see what we'd face with sky as background or no natural light. Thank you for making this video.

Instablaster...
Patrick should have photographed one of those creepy looking spiders made it 10ft tall and then composited the model hiding from it behind a rock.
please no emo medieval shot by an old fart photo please
Holy shit that spider was creepy!
Yep! Like some prehistoric photo.
These contests are awesome. Keep em coming.
I'd really like to see Josh's daughter composited into Patrick's scenery. Teamwork can make the dream work.
Patrick's images looks soooo cool! but man the other one is a hole another level. It's like she coming from the jungle and entering the cave. it's so meaningful
Both photos are good but the disadvantage in Josh photo is that there is too much light in the background..
Even with the mistake in location, it maybe could've been saved by making it a night scene in post
I can't believe Josh went to a fantastic cave location and shot a backlit blown out picture of the entrance. Patrick wins hands down.
Personally I am also really impressed with Patricks image, really stunning the smoke application.
Patrick killed it!!! These contests are awesome! Keep them coming 😍
"It's okay, I'm holding your hand!" Okay, he wins without taking a picture!! Keep being that special, adventuresome, protective Dad!
Brilliant video, great images and looks like loads of fun

"Uh...no"
😂
Patrick is undefeated.......you come at the king, you best not miss!
Brilliant shot Patrick!

that's a pretty challenging place to light, great job!
Awesome work from both !!
More content like this!!! Please
Really nice video, do you have a lot of competition videos?
Great job, Patrick! They were both good and Josh is an amazing photographer, but I like Patrick’s more
I'm smiling all the way through. Fs, you guys are really on to something here. Music for the different story lines, tale of two photographers, it's all good!
great job guys. Patrick and Josh great job. "Patrick" wow...
This was great, nice Patrick! Nice work!
Inspiring content. Congrats to Patrick, great job! Josh I'll be enrolling to your tutorials very soon.

Hi guys beatiful cave, where in Puerto Rico is that? Im from puerto Rico loves photography but hate Guavá( puertorican caves spiders) subscribed
Thank you for helping Puerto Rico by enticing travelers to visit. These are beautiful works
Thanks James! Hoping we can do what we can to help this island out! -P
So what is it that you are trying to convey by emerging from a discarded refrigerator?
A creative way to start yet another youtube video...-P
Great video! Great work by both of you. You've got me looking for a cave.
I like the video, but I love the way you make the contrast of the caves... Awesome and funny. Thanks!
Man I laughed so hard at Patrick's commentaries and the team's reactions. What an amazing place to shoot in
I learned a lot from this, thank you!
You haven't even had time to watch 2 mins of it!!! -P
Hey Patrick, I agree with Josh, I am impressed.
So is this a challenge on photography? Or Who's better at editing in Photoshop?
Hey Josh what kind of backpack do you use?
Fun video, always quality work coming from fstoppers! I have a small addiction to the tutorial videos. Lol.
Patrick won... the overexposed background ruined the girl’s photo.
Those spider looking things are called Guavá. Great video.
I bet some colored smoke in that cave would have been super cool...
Definetley north PR. probably out west. Im guessing Camuy
Morovis which is kind of central I believe -P
@@FStoppers Lived in Vega Baja for a few years. Not far from Morovis. Beautiful karst area. I miss it.
Cool stuff.. Love your channel. Just got back into photography. Still have so much to learn. Learning lots from your channel. Thanks for sharing.

Those spiders are named Amblypygi or whip spider, and locally knows as "guavá". They are not dangerous.
You both were amazing
The way Patrick dropped that dog at the beginning was hilarious.
Very good job Patrick !!!
Definitely Patrick for the win!
fun to watch
Dont go into the light !! 💡
Awesome video, liked and subscribed!
great video. think about doing some workshops on the island. maybe Carolina?
wow that is so cool! enjoy!
Shot in the studio added smoke. Why even leave the house at all.
Because I needed that sweet win! -P
That was excellent, thanks for sharing!
That dog flies? Hahaha 0:16 come on Patrick!!
I like the cave and the video My Island has some many Places to go .The Prince's The Best Try other Program in the bio bay in Vieques is going to be Amazing
Patrick would you be able to make a video showing your process towards the final image?
Yes, I'm thinking of doing that once I get a few other projects done. -P
Fstoppers awesome! Really looking forward to it!

Identical! -P
Want more of these!

Yo im from there, cool that your close where I live😁👍
What part of PR is this???
Morovis, it's a private cave on private property. There are apparently hundreds of them. -P
Please! Where in Puerto Rico was this? Thanks
Camuy
Guys where is this location?
It's om private land in Morovis. If you reach out to Robert, he can set you up with a tour -P

I was shocked too. I think Josh didnt go all out 100% because he is overall a way better photographer than me. -P
Should have fist bumped and wished him well! Cute only goes so far. Lol!
