Developed these over the better part of 15 years snapping pics. I CAN DO THIS! Habit breaking in 3....2....1....(p.s. what are some of YOUR bad habits???)
I like your videos but when I do them I suck at it 😂😂
I have a bad habit of watching too many Peter McKinnon videos and end up procrastinating on other things😁
My main bad habit is forgetting to charge my batteries... I'll grab bag of them and they are all DEAD! 💀😵
Hey Pete, when are you coming back to Kenya :D
Not preparing til the day before the shoot :/
bad habit n.7:
actually watching photographers and videographers more than doing it myself
damn I feel that
damn
Fr tho every time I watch his videos I want to go out and just snap pics
Hahaha yes me. But Peter motivates me!
...same
bad habit #1: being a shy photographer.
That's me
Raven1314 same
Depends what you shoot. You don’t need to be outgoing to shoot a landscape.
Saaaame!
Me. I like street photography alot but im too shy
Bad habit #7: Assuming your camera settings are set correctly
Same here
I forgot my ISO was set high (~1000). Did a 15 minute exposure. Camera also glitched out a bit ... Picture ended up super bizarre looking.
Haha
hahaha
Indeed
1. Not shooting in any lighting condition
2. Not taking enough photos
3. Deleting in camera
4. Referencing the lcd screen too much
5. Not offloading your memory card after shooting
6. Assuming all camera gear is in your camera bag
2. and 3. for sure, I'm so guilty for deleting photos in camera 🤦♀️
Thanks mate, your list is better than 12 minutes of bla bla bla 👍
@@grazianism You should just google a webpage next time, not sure why you even came to a video platform.
@@MarlonVanderLinde Hi Marlon, you are right, but there is a line between explanation and extra long winded talk.
Mari Anna I am too, though there are times there’s a photo that’s like, an immediate absolute nOpE and you never wanna look at it again!
Vote here for a video about direct sunlight.
just use an ND filter
Yes please!
He has already made one
You got your wish
Jaret E I so i have to bring a tripod every time?:(
Please do a video on HOW TO SHOOT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT!😃
Lower exposure (how you do so is up to you), use graduated ND filters, use buildings/other large objects as shade.
@@corynorell3686 Thanks Cory..However i would love to see also a short video on that from Peter..
I agree, that would be cool. 😌
Alex Herold yes I’m at the beach right now and am STRUGGLINGGGG
@@allyebrillante7588 ok we got jealous...
Dude, I found your channel yesterday and been binging ever since. Incredible photography, I have learned a lot, and your personality is so uplifting and energetic. Love this channel
DavidJenk253 me too man. His content is entertaining and helpful
"I'll just fix it in post"
Maybe a slight miss on exposure, composition, whitebalance, etc. Then I get to lightroom and I sit and look at my slideshow of filth and wonder why anyone let me have a camera 😂
Mistake #7: never assume you can fix anything in post. Better way to say it: Always ensure, to the best of your abilities, that your shots get knocked out of the park IN CAMERA.
Kyler Richardson LOL! It’s good to know we all feel like our photos are crap.
Hahaha... so funny and true description that many of us feel sometimes
Bad habit: thinking ANY photo can be fixed in post production.
Its best to get them right incamera as possible, we can't always get lucky. 🍀
agreed!
I AM so guilty of this cuz one time a background wasn't even and uh i Just told myself nah i can fix IT in post processing but when i got to Editing nope
Please make a video about taking photos in sunlight!!
Agreeee! In direct sunlight at midday
ND filter videos might help you Peter has a few I believe
AND VIDEO
Yes a sunlight vid would be awesome
I was just watching a video of this please make one
Peter! You are THE ONLY youtuber that i don't have to speed up XD
Tonia_medlenno_snimaet i thin he already speed up his videos 😂
He has a build in speed ramp on it :D :P hahahaha
Apart from first 20 seconds and, well, the last three minutes.
Tonia_medlenno_snimaet LOL!!
I was just thinking while watching: I really like this dude's pace!
Bad habit n.7: Not charging your camera and drone batteries every time you come back from a shooting session only to realise you batteries are flat the next time 😓
Or putting the SD card back in after importing 😥
Definitely!
I did it so many times that now I put some backup sd cards in the backpack and i also bought 2 batteries, a power bank and a usb charger for them. When battery is drained I already put in the power bank to recharge during the shoot, I usually have at least one spare battery half charged, while the other one is charging again... Just don’t forget to charge the power bank ahaha
Azer 8663 I relate to this so hard 😂😂
Bad Habit No. 7:
Comparing your work with the work of pro photographers you follow, and end up devaluating your work. Does this make sense?
Jup! Been there done that
Yess
Who's been reading my thoughts?? This is too much like what my thought process is half the time!
Absolutely. You're not alone.
Theodore Roosevelt's quote "Comparison is the thief of joy." Couldn't be more true.
1:10 - #1 - Refusing to shoot in less than ideal conditions
2:37 - #2 - Not shooting enough photos
3:55 - #3 - Deleting in-camera
4:49 - #4 - Referencing the LCD screen too much
6:36 - #5 - Not offloading your memory card immediately after shooting
8:07 - #6 - Assuming all gear is in bag
you're an everyday hero
How to decrease the View Time of a video.
Doing God’s work
not all heros wear capes
or, you know. you can actually support the content creator and watch the whole video..???
Funny, I’m the same way with the “not taking enough photos” habit. But honestly, I decided early on that I wouldn’t use burst mode on my camera especially starting out. It really taught me about timing the shot and being extra deliberate in composition knowing that one push of the shutter button will give me only one image. Street photography is a great way to learn whilst not using burst mode!
My personal bad habit: keeping my camera in the bag until something catches my eye to take it out and start snapping photos. I've missed out on so many moments trying to put my camera together because I was too lazy to keep it in my hands at the beginning. Admitting is the first step, right?
Me tooooo!
Austin Heath same here
Good, I'm not the only one
I had this problem but a camera harness helped I never liked my camera hanging by my neck so I’d keep it in my bag but the harness allows it to hang at my side out the way so I feel less compelled to keep it in my bag
I always joke that we need cyborg eyes acting as a continual recording baseline for this exact problem. And ‘dang it! My eyes captured it but my camera was too slow’ moments too.
Bro! The bloopers alone are 3 and half minutes long and I love it! :)
Yeah man! please make a video on direct sunlight photography!!
Re: overshooting vs undershooting, as a long time photo editor who transitioned from film to digital I have always maintained that the only thing more dangerous than a photographer with a 64gb card is a photographer with a 128gb card. Or as a photographer friend of mine once overheard Julius Shulman (look him up) ask, “What are you doing, taking photos you don’t like?”
Bad habit for me: focussing too much on the gear and technical aspects rather than being creative! Man, I have so many filters and gadgets I will never use!
yes... there are a LOT of us who do this.
Then you take on a second photographer that is eager to use them and inspires you to use them. :)
Same here.
Bad habit :
1. thinking I won’t need my camera on day out exploring 🙄
2. Putting off on charging batteries
3. Being camera shy (still new photographer)
I am sorry to say this, but if you don't think you need your camera during a day of exploring, you're not really that much into photography. My camera goes wherever I go.
You always need your camera exploring, I take my camera to my friends houses just in case anything pops up out of nowhere
can i have that camera instead please 😂
Why would u NOT take ur camera when exploring! Its the obvious thing to do duhh
Hmmm. I think it's good to have a balance. Photographers often feel like they have to capture EVERYTHING much like the non photographer folks who have to Instagram every. single. thing. Sometimes you just want to be in the moment and I've heard of photographers deliberately not taking cameras on trips to step away from the intensity of needing to take all the photographs all the time.
T.A.C.O. Tuesday
Stands for Technical Advice, Coaching and Opinion
Bro!!! Aweasome :D
Wow 😲👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Definetly the best
I dig it.
omg yes
As a wildlife photographer, I often forget my batteries.
the same :/
I’m 2 months into photography, I didn’t know there was a bad time of day to shoot... seriously I just thought "if there is light let’s go"
Tru man... 💯
Ditto
There isn't a bad time, only bad circumstances
My Bad Habit:
"Ughhh, I don't want to carry my tripod. Ehhh... *I don't think I will need it."* 🤦♂️
But seriously, having to lug around any tripod can get really annoying.
Hahahah had this 1000 Times for real but got a Manfrotto Pixi a few months ago which is always laying in my backpack and for most cases it does the job ;D
No longer trying to lay my cam onto my backpack to somehow use it as a tripod xD
@@flmmkr Been there. Done that. 😂
I have been looking into getting one of those mini tripods.
@@flmmkr Woah, dude. I just saw your channel. Instantly subscribed. Love the Paris video 👌
Leaving batteries not charged in the bag!
Or having one dead and one charged but they are unmarked.
Going to grab the go-pro for a cool shot idea and realizing you never charged it and it's been sitting dead. So you walk away mad. It's still not charging.
Your camera bag SD card analogy was me forgetting a tripod plate when I flew to Canada for 3 weeks.
Oooooof that's painful
Deleting pictures off of you’re camera is such a good example of what not to do! So many times I’ve seen pictures that I’m like darn its blurry but a lot of the times with a little bit of TLC they end up being some of my best works of art! Thanks Peter for helping other fellow photographers or aspiring ones with these helpful tips. 💙
Please make the shooting in direct sunlight video! I'm one of those people who hates shooting in nasty blue sky sunny days!
Get a lens that produces nice sunstars and a high contrast #25 red filter, shoot with the sun in the frame and shoot for black and white.
😀 I just find it funny that blue skies is considered nasty
but first the important, the "How to make Coffee Tutorial"
Yesss pleaseeee
Ayyy I'm top comment! Consider checking out my IG: brandon10k
I post banging landscape photos!
Bad Habit Number One: Shooting with the lens cap on.
Snarfunderfoodle I will admit, I’ve done this before and freaked out because the pictures were coming out black but turns out I left the lens cap on 😂🤦♀️
I did that the very first time I got my camera😂 Good thing I was just testing it out at night and not really shooting anything
😛😜
Julie Alcin yeah but think of the money you save on ND filters?
Or, assuming your batteries are charged (spoilers: they’re not)
You ever forget a tripod plate to an interview shoot? 😂
Love the editing/animation/video production quality. Definitely subscribed!
Please do the direct sunlight video!
Bad Habit #7 - Watching Peter McKinnon at golden hour instead of being out shooting the video I need to release tomorrow... /sigh
My bad habit if it’s with people is feeling like I need to take the shot quickly, instead of taking a second to ensure I’m happy with the composition - then having to crop out some distraction in post!
Your color grading is always on point.
Hands down, one of the things that makes your videos my favorite to follow aside from solid advice.
Really appreciating the frequent uploads!!
Thanks for the advice, supreme photo leader.
Me: I´m gonna backup my SD cards like a serious Pro.
Also me the next shoot: didn´t check my bag and have no SD cards with me.
I love your videos man! They have been a HUGE help to me. 5 days ago I bought a Canon 80D for mainly photography, and your videos have already gave me so much knowledge on do’s and don’ts and tips and tricks. So thank you man! I definitely hit that sub button!
Quick question.
How have you put it 928974 incredible videos this year already?
Asking for a friend.
Right? He's seriously on that grind.
I would say how have you put that 94424 incredible instastories @jessedriftwood
Asking for myself 😅
There is no real Peter. The clone army has been uncovered. Disguised as a coffee loving Canadian with an unhealthy obsession to glass and hair growth. ReeeBoot! ReeeBoot! (said in a Northern French Canadian accent of course).
Mine: watching too much of pete's videos without actually going out and bombing photos
(*not actually guilty*)
So glad I learned so many things from Peter, he's a big part of my photography journey.
Does anyone else have a bad habit of losing your lens caps... I just lost it again filming in Florida😂😂😂
I just had that at a festival in Michigan
@@twistedfocus3795 lol took me and my sister 45 minutes to find it in the sand of the beach 😂
l lost mine a month ago 😂
I always put it in my back pocket. Haven’t lost it once. Keep it consistent so you always know where it’ll be.
Yeah dude, bad habit number 7 is not putting those bad boys in your pocket on somewhere consistently safe where it’s always on u
Damn I’m early, HELLO🔥
OH HEYYYYYYYYY
Heyyy brandon man heart this comment now!! 🤣🤣🙏😜
@@PeterMcKinnon i know you wanna heart this comment 🙄👉👉
@@jdsphotos1282 😂😂
Hey brandon! Love your work!
Peter's rambling at the end is the greatest part of my day! Hahahahaha.
20 minute tutorial Tuesday. love your tutorials and honestly love using them while editing my videos.
Please make a video on direct sunlight photography tips Pete ! Xd
1. Your videos are slowly becoming more and more outtakes and i love it
2. An idea for two minute Tuesday rename: McKinnon Minutes
Or
Coffee Talk (make a coffee for every Tuesday)
"101.5 percent more than 2 Peter McKinnon minutes Tuesday". You are welcome ;)
Pete makes a coffee every ten minutes
Love the ideas !
I just wanted to say how much I like your videos, and how much they help me. I am really into photography, and these help me so much.
Great advice brother...
Really appreciate all you and your crew are doing for the photography community, thank you
Haven’t watched it yet but guarantee I do all of them lol
SooChef exactly
Not charging you're batteries.
And how about TOPIC TUESDAY.
Love these bad habits, so true. You’re also very funny and entertaining to watch! Thanks!
It's all about getting out there and just finding a happy medium. Great vid once again Peter!
Peter, thanks for being out there in this amazing UA-cam community. You already know that you have inspired so many creators out there, but I think its nice to reminding it to you with every chance we have. The way you put down the work to make your videos better and better on each upload is amazing!! Keep being you, keep being awesome and keep spread the knowledge without asking anything in return.
Omg #6 happened yesterday, opened the bag... no mic! 🤦🏻♀️ 😂
Bringing back silent movies 🤪
I'd like this but there r 69 likes
Or no camera 😂
The bloopers are just....so good... 😂🙌🏼 Plus the sound effect of body checks was on point hahahaha
I don’t know how I can get so pumped up from a guy talking about something like a camera haha I mean I love photography but you got the energy that I need.
That new intro is so 🔥, gets me PUMPED every time I see it!
Headbutt?
I love the way you use tuning instruments as a refence. I wonder what percentage of audience that are musicians? ..genuinely (as a guitarist)
Thanks for the tips dude.
I’m super guilty of all of these! (Except backing up everything, I once lost 2 years worth of writing to a busted USB and I am NEVER making that mistake again.) Especially checking photos after I take them, I never thought of it as a bad habit but you’re totally right, it breaks flow. Thanks for this video!
I just want to thank you for being awesome! I've been stuck in bed for a week with some health issues and I survived by binge watching all your videos .
That NHL 94 check noise was flawless
New title.. ''10 minutes Tuesday'' Boom!
yes shooting in direct sunlight is totally what I would love tips on!!
Love your presenting style dude!
I recently ordered a Sony RX100 IV as my first foray into photography and I'm loving these tips. Can't wait until the camera arrives and I can out them into practice!
Now do 6 good habits!!! :-D
One of them is definitely shooting portrait. You gotta get that 4x5 for the Instagram!
My worst habit is not taking enough photos. 😂
Same 😂😂 haven't posted to instagram yet because of that 😂
@@europapointnmusic979 tell me about it. Sometimes my Instagram is quit for like 2 to 3 months
@@TahsinAbedin 😂😂😂 l need to get out tomorrow and get more than enough

I'm an aspiring photographer, thank you for creating this video. I've only worked with film cameras and my phone so it will completely different when I get a digital camera. I'm definitely going to be watching your videos a lot on this journey to become a photographer. I'm so happy I came across your channel.
You're so great , thanks thanks thank a million . Inspired and feeling so creative
PLEASE do a video on shooting in direct sunlight!! That would be so helpful!
One of my bad habits would definitely be always forgetting to charge my batteries 🤦🏽♂️
#6 is without a doubt my worst!! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the video! Love your content bro!
I listen to these like podcasts more than once. The information is stored.
Not putting the lens cap in a place I can remember!! So an epic lens cap hunt happens at the end of half the shoots!
I stopped doing this when I started using filters, it's glorious!
Alli and Will back left pocket for me, every time. Haven’t lost one yet 🙌
I always put it in my back pocket, i still forget i put it there all the time till someone reminds me...
Altura Photo Lens Cap Keeper Holder helps me in that area, 5 for less than 7 bucks, sold! ;)
@@ATribeCalledCars That's a good tip!
Im relatively new to photography (been doing it 2 years as a hobby) but its slowly taking a priority in my life. Before even seeing this video, I am really surprised I don't have as many bad habits as I thought! You always give super advice though! Thank you!
love the outtakes makes me love so much ;)
When the blooper reel is as long as the regular video haha. Good stuff dude!
Hey Pete! A couple ideas for a Tuesday title:
-No Timer Tuesday
-20/20 Tuesday (where you clarify misconceptions about photography/cinematography)
22 Minute Tuesday. It's catchy, it rolls off the tongue but most importantly it's accurate right!! 😁 However, whatever you call them I'm here watching regardless, loving your work.
Actually, *Two Hours Tuesday* sounds nice too.
I was actually thinking on Not Two Minute Tuesday, but I kinda like how both of you are thinking. 😂
I watched this Friday, had my first photoshoot Sunday. thank you for tip on continuous shooting. It was a lifesaver for some posts.
Cracked me up with the band analogy !! Ha, ha, ha !! Thanks for sharing !
Tasty Tuesdays because I am always satisfied after watching you videos! Haha
YES! MAKE ONE VIDEO ON SHOOTING PHOTOS IN DIRECT SUN AND ONE ON SHOOTING VIDEO IN DIRECT SUN (I still can't do that well at all!)
Ya I'd like one too.. I find myself shooting mid day quite often recently
I just want to say that I really appreciate those outtakes in the end, hehe. Thanks Peter!
Man oh man, your videos keep getting better and better each day! Keep it up! A bad habit I know I have is that when I'm shooting portraits, I will switch my camera to portrait mode and I won't shoot in manual or any other mode. The portrait mode just makes everything look so nice, and clear and I feel like with manual, its not the same, there's some graininess and any other stupid reason I can't think of now.
Also, how does twelve minute Tuesday sound? 😂
Oh yeah new video! Grab some Popcorn and enjoy!!
Referencing your LCD for correct Exposure (not using histogram)
Technical Tuesday
I don't even have a histogram account (I don't think)
Bill Tiger lmao
Timeless Tuesdays for sure. Don't tie yourself down man, spread those wings
The analogy of a band stopping and starting every verse to check if things sound good was absolutely perfect!!
at first I was like: DOES he really talk to somebody? but yes, you did.
[Worktitle] Tuesday
What about "Talk a lot Tuesday" I think that sounds perfect? Don't hate me, I love ya Peter 😅
😂 you do have a point there.
I haven't been watching for a while, I don't know why, just haven't but this was the first to come back to. Not disappointed. I actually preferred the bonus footage over the rest of the video. Good to see you again Peter. 🤪
Awesome, practical good and damn good advice!👊
Yes please do a video on harsh sunlight! I’m a new photographer and it seems I’m always drawn to shooting during the day and then I have to crank my settings to compensate. Would love some tips and tricks!
Genius content!
I am definitely going to upgrade myself!
Thank you so much! :)
Very useful tips, thanks man!
Dude... this hits home. Grease video!
