    The one handed controller is freaking awesome and the guy deserves a lot of recognition for it. Also it is sadly true that a lot of people find their kids and "adult" kids spending huge amounts on micro transactions, my mother works for a bank gets calls about this at least once a week if not more

      To begin with, kids should *never* have a means to use parents' credit card; even better, give them allocated money for a month with no supervision, but if they ran out of it, that's it. No begging anymore.
      That's what my parents do, there's a day when i spent it carelessly & have to bear with not buying any snack for the rest of the month; i even got slammed by my dad after being caught stealing their money. Brutal? Yes. But it teaches you the value of money.

    I knew a guy in school that had one functional hand. He said it was fortunate that the games he liked to play didn't require super fast reactions. I think he liked sport games like FIFA and such and he had a method where he would balance the controller to use the buttons he needed. The point is it's cool that a fully working controller can be used with one hand. I hope this gets adopted by the companies.

    That first one about the 18yr old buying $20,000 in genshin, is so common over in Asia. Generally, you stick with your parents until you get a really good job or get married. I have cousins in Korea who are nearing their 40’s and they have never had a real job in their lives, live with their parents, and mooch money off them every day. And they spend their money solely on alcohol, games at the Internet cafe, and cigarettes. There’s a reason why I don’t speak to them.

      Nah dude, even the best parents can’t control their adult children’s’ actions , nor can they be prepared for every possibility ever. I’m sure the 18 year old girl knows full well that “stealing is wrong”. She didn’t do it because she wasn’t taught well enough. She did it because she had an addiction facilitated by parasitic game devs.
      Imagine your mom handing you a card to pick up some groceries only to find that you withdrew $20k for a new car or something. At some point it’s just about not being a piece of garbage, especially by the time you’re 18.

      Yeah but just raising the child properly can prevent this.
      Take me for example.
      I want to have Dying Light 2, GTFO, Assetto Corsa Competizione DLCs, DayZ and RimWorld.

    • @kyleunderhill9126
      @kyleunderhill9126 2 роки тому +3

      @@GrillerRohde highly debatable. I'm the oldest of 13 blood siblings and most of us and my dad would never do this, but 2 of my youngest siblings have spent money on games without permission. My dad had 9 siblings. 1 stole his wedding rings for drug money and another has gifted him money in hard times. My kid is brutally honest and compassionate, yet snuck her favorite junk food after dinner and dessert. Addiction is crazy and some people are just narcissistic. Honestly, my kid has a better perspective now, but I can't 100% prevent addiction in her; nor can I teach my crazy aunt to feel empathy.

    From my understand for the news on the 20k spent on Genshin Impact, the credit card was linked to a fare card that is use to pay for bus fare. Every time the fare card run out of money it will top up automatically from the credit card. So the game company allow payment using fare card. The girl in the news keep using the fare card to pay for the gambling activities in Genshin Impact. It was like a back door for the game company access to the parent's credit cards if parents linked the fare card to their credit cards for schooling children transportation. You can use this fare card to pay for Macdonald in Singapore too. Last but not least, Genshin Impact is by a China company.

    just fyi about singapore... they have very good public transportation... and most people there get around singapore using the public bus and trains as they are very accessible to almost every high traffic areas and public locations and in this example, one such locations are schools... this is the main way for almost every students in singapore to travel to school... and these cards that they issue does comes with those ez-link/nets flashpay features...
    my friend had those types of card before and the convenient part about them is the fact that they automatically refill your balance or was it charging your account directly but basically it means you don't have to top up your balance every single time it is about to run out when using the public transport system.... as you would need to go to a MRT station or a bus depot station to top them up...
    the father should have just left her with a normal ez-link card and not bother giving her a bank related card if she was never taught to be responsible with money...

      Genshin player here - that amount of money is more than enough to get absolutely everything. Which makes this whole situation even worse considering that not only did she spend enough to get everything, she also spent thousands and thousands extra for no reason at all

  • @Cinetiste

    I agree ! What must be seen as far worst than "weird" is that it may even be possible to spend 20 000 $ in a sole video game.
    A virtual "service", not even a product, that we physically do not own , in which values are disguised in different ways.
    At the end, the fact that there are ways to prevent it do not lower the immorality of it.

    I used to work at a bank and it was VERY common to have children smash through thousands of dollars on microtransactions. Parents were often reimbursed through Google Play.

  • @WillLI05
    @WillLI05 2 роки тому +2

    I hate seeing people say 'kids' spending huge amount of money is microtransactions/lootboxes fault. You can find plenty of stories about kids buying thoughts of dollars worth of stuff from amazon with alexa. Or other stories of kids taking their parents card info to buy things without permission. We need to stop hiding behind the fact that the company gives you the freedom to buy what you want and just accept that no matter how 'predatory' their business model is, at the end of the day they are not forcing you to do anything. The people who have problems with this are people with addictive personalities or have a bad understanding of the value of money. These people would have the same problems elsewhere if something else interested them. It's just that games are interesting to most people so of course there's a lot of stories.

    Main problem with that money stuff is that is that there isn’t a requested daily limit for any games that have micro transaction. Like max 1k per day for a game. Any more from that card to that company that day is just rejected.

    The dude who made the adapter to use his controller with one hand to play a game that's co-op only is pretty genius to be honest. Obviously for accessibility reasons. Now people with one hand can play games. But also because some games won't let you play unless you have a second person and that sucks...

Also, gotta love how Hello Games was just nice for no real reason...betwen that and the way they're still supporting No Man's Sky, they are one of my favorite developers, hands down.
