You pick pendant as a starting gift, deprived class, and equip the calamity ring when you get it. I'll tell you what lad, you just have to see it yourself. Makes the game a complete cakewalk
You can cheese the black knight in under burg by going into the locked door up the stairs and lure him to the door, then closing it and you can attack him through the door with a long weapon like a spear.
You can get the dark wood grain ring and stay in the forest hunter covenant. Kill *ONLY* the ninja, pick up the ring, then run away. Go talk to Oswald in the undead church ( guy who gives you the "Well! What is it?" emote) and request absolution. You can then rejoin the forest hunters.

I heard hype stories all over the internet+from my bro who already played the game. I charged in with full Havels+Iron Flesh+Power Within and Demon's greataxe, tanked through his combo and destroyed him in 10 seconds. I was like "that's it?" )

to kill a giant dad. equip full havels. when they start to succumb to r1 spam, literally walk past them, poising through their swing, and backstab them during their swing lag. assuming your a casual and cant parry, this is the easiest way to ruin their fun. when they panic and start trying to use sorcererys, continue walking to their back. its one hell of a mind game
Learn to dodge roll properly and use light roll,the zweilhander will be too slow to catch anyone competent,giant dad is only good pve build,very easily countered in pvp tho
It is good, but no so good as you have only two slots. If you don't need any equip load boost so to have two slots free, you don't really need chloranthy ring that much either.
grass crest does its job well anyways. sure its only 95% damage reduction, but if your 2 handing or just spot blocking the chip damage is well worth the stamina regen
Well it's not restricted to NG+ anymore from the looks of it. And the servers can handel it unlike in the old game where it only occured once in a blue moon.
I have played dark souls 3 and bloodborne. Bloodborne is still one of my favorite games of all time, but after trying out dark souls remastered i dont know, there is sort of love that the devs put into this game that i just didnt see in the other ones. Like they werent trying to make a hugely successful game, but rather an ode to the old punishing games and homages to kings field. I've just never been so invested in a game before. Jessica Blurg Dark Souls was the beginning of a great video game series (excluding Demon's Souls) thats why they decide to remastered the original, still the $40 price for a DSfix may be much, but still its still worth it, trust me.
Jessica never buy ds2 (scholar of the first sin)... It is (my opinion) the worst game in the franchise and also the most frustrating game/difficult game I have played so far... They messed up badly with it.

NCR Veteran Ranger Melendez, Bloodborne is my favorite, but just because i have a bias towards it. It was my first introduction into the soulsborne franchise and i was completely enthralled with the lore and the mystery behind Yarnham.... also anything that a victorian/gothic vibe to it has my attention.
tip to kill havel: out space him. on my first play through i was using the zweihander(however you spell it) and just baited his attacks and moved back and forward after he swung( heavy attack with great swords is the best attack for the spacing)
When I first played Dark Souls the Ring of Favor and Protection was a Godsend, but these days the fact that removing it breaks it makes it worthless to me. Those two ring slots work better when you combine two rings that work well together in certain situations. That ring limits the player from using good ring combinations, if you don't want to break it, so I wouldn't recommend it at all.
If you are tinking of using favor and protection wait tell after you fully explore blight town because surviving in there without the rusted iron ring and poison bite is really anoying. Especially since restince is not worth getting any posion resistence is crucial for that area.
Havel and Covetous Gold Serpent, all I ever need although Rusted Iron is always nice, and with my specific build Bloodbite does wonders. when rushing through areas Wolf Ring is a godsend as well. I can never bring myself to use Ring of Favor and Protection cause I’m constantly swapping out rings in DS1 specifically
Being limited to only 2 ring slots was incredibly frustrating for me; why put like 30+ different rings in the game when so many are wasted simply because you don't have other slots for them? The "Ring of Favor and Protection" is just so useful and can't be removed without breaking, so essentially I was left with only one ring slot, and in certain parts of the game, you're going to have to use that second slot for stuff like "Rusted Iron Ring" (to move in swamps/water etc) or "Charred Orange Ring" (to move in fire/lava sections). Just felt very limiting to have all those other rings, but no spots for them.

Aside from the obvious key rings like the Favor & Protection, Wolf, Cloronthy, both Covetus, Havel's, Dark Wood Grain, Rusted Iron, etc etc. The ring I found surprisingly most useful is the Slumbering Dragon Crest ring! Especially vs Titanite Demons. Btw, you can cheese Havel with fall damage. Just lure him up the stairs, and right before he attacks you roll off. Repeat 3-4 times & he's finished!👍
Just use Grass Crest shield and eat a green blossom. Same effect and saves you a very important ring slot that could be Havel's, Wolf, or Hornet ring instead.
Andrew Craven That is very true. Grass crest however takes equip burden however and is no more than an okay to decent shield aside from the stamina effect. And I don't want to keep eating consumables all the time.
GCS takes up no more equip load than any other medium shield, so that's a moot point unless your shield of choice is a parrying dagger or small leather shield. And even without the use of green blossoms, the difference between Cloranthy ring and GCS is hard to notice. If you really need that extra 12.5% without eating green blossoms, you could wear mask of the child. The problem isn't that Cloranthy ring is bad, it's that you give up a lot by not having one of the other, more impactful rings in its place. The other rings enable tactical options that are unavailable to you without them. Wolf ring allows you to poise through hits, opening up options like poise backstab and greatly reduces your chances of getting stunlocked and dying to R1 spam. Havel's enables you to wear significantly heavier armor and still fast roll, granting you much better protections (and even poise) that you wouldn't have otherwise. DWGR allows you to I-frame through hits significantly easier and opens up more opportunities for roll backstabs. By comparison, All Cloranthy ring does is take something your character already does naturally and lets them do it a bit faster. Yes, you could potentially use your superior stamina regen to punish someone hiding behind their shield with repeated strikes followed up by more repeated strikes before their stamina bar fills, but any half-decent player won't fall into that very easily avoidable situation.
Andrew Craven I must add to this that I play PVE exclusively. Except for the occasionsal invaders and covenant events. I was talking about PVE only. PVP wise you are perfectly right.
@ThePesmergia I'm well aware of how it all works. But are you suggesting you play with no shield at all? Because GCS weighs no more than any other medium shield, and your only other option would be a light shield, of which the only one that's even kind of good would maybe be the Target Shield. My point is if you are basically forced to reserve those 3 units of weight for a shield, you may as well have it be the one that gives you stamina regen. It's better than using up a ring slot for it. As for green blossom + mask of child being good enough, I agree. That was kind of my point (in fact, I even mentioned that above). All 3 of the other stamina regen options are fine on their own and can be mix & matched to your liking, and all occupy less important slots than choranthy ring.
For legit new players: Take the master key as your gift. your class doesn't matter that much but i reccomend you pick the pyromancer, as you get your pyro glove and powerful spells early in the game. after you leave the asylum, level up, go to new londo, get the firekeeper soul and suicide. after that, go to the graveyard, and try to get all the souls and the zwei, then go to new londo again, but instead of heading straight forward, turn to the right, use the master key to open a shortcut, and cross the bridge to the undead dragon, now this is important: DO NOT GET HIS RIGHT HAND ITEMS FIRST, take the left soul and if you want you can get a pretty good shield for early game areas and a sword that you probably cannot handle. Great, you're doing great Now level up until you can use the straight sword or the zwei, just preference. now, go to the undead burg, loot everything you can and buy about 60-70 arrows and a bow from the merchant. after the boss you will find a bridge, open the shortcut to the bonfire, and go under the bridge and shoot at the dragon's tail Hope i helped someone ;)
NEVER PICK MASTER KEY IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOURR DOING Srsly at least play through it once the intended way, or youre going to get lost super hard. The keys are laid out in a way where they lead you through the game on the proper path, which means a proper difficulty curve.
Warren Graham I picked the master key and ended up beating the hydra, moonlight butterfly, and Sif before even going through the undead burg basement. The fucked up curve helped me improve a little faster as a player and I was a little OP for the Capra demon and the depths, but it was pretty difficult before I leveled enough for the Black Knight Sword
I honestly wouldn't recommend a new player do any of the above things. Maybe get the drake sword, but even that is a crutch that quickly becomes a liability if you're not prepared to switch to a better weapon by the time you're at Quelaag. My recommendation for new players is to replace whatever shield they got from their starting class with the Heater shield as soon as they come across the merchant, and grab the claymore at the hellkite bridge.

Scott Swift divine and occult are for faith builds Raw is for early game Fire is good for early game too but you cant buff it Lightning same thing just different elemental damage Crystal gives you high damage but you cant repair the weapon Chaos gives you more fire damage and also if you have 10 humanity (in the upper left corner) you also get more damage Enchanted is strange I think it gives you better scaling in Intelligence maybe? Magic is for... well... magic builds Heres how the infusions work -fire weapon +5 weapon -magic weapon -divine weapon +5 div. Wpn.- + 10 div. Wpn. - occult weapon +5 mgc. wpn.- +10 mgc. Wpn. -enchanted wpn. +5 fire wpn. - +10 fire wpn. - chaos wpn. +10 weapon - crystal wpn. - lightning wpn. +5 weapon - raw wpn. Hope that cleared it for you, if you want specific ember locations just tell me.
Oh yeah I forgot Blue chunks for +10 magic/ enchanted weapon Red chunks for +10 fire/chaos weapon White chunks for +10 divine/occult weapon Regular chunks for lighning, crystal, +15 weapon Green titanite shards are for bellow +5 magic, fire, divine infusions You always need 9 shards Then 9 large (green) titanite shards Then 7 (blue, red, white) titanite chunks and a (blue, red, white) slab
Fire and Lightning infusions are useful even in late game. The raw damage it gives off is on par with other scaling weapons. It's nice for a character that isn't going to focus to much on damage stats but instead go for extreme vit and end for example. Chaos has lower damage then fire normaly, but the more humanity you have (max of 10) the higher the damage gets, until it outclasses fire. Magic weapons have added int scaling and magic damage. Enchanted is similar, but the base magic damage added is smaller then the magic one. However, the int scaling is higher, so for high int builds, enchanted definetely outclasses magic. Magic is better for int/str or int/dex builds. Same for divine and occult. Divine adds faith scaling and magic damage to the weapon, along with the aux. effect which grants extra damage to undead and the capability of definetely killing them without having to kill a necromancer first.. Occult adds a base magic damage that is smaller then divine but a higher faith scaling, which on a pure faith build, definetely outclasses the divine for damage. It's auxiliary effect also grants you extra damage against Gods and their kin (silver knights, black knights, God bosses for example). So, similar to enchanted/magic, divne is better for fth/str or fth/dex hybrid builds, while occult will definetely be better for pure faith. The rest of the upgrade paths are pretty simple.
Now that I think about it raw is the most broken infusion in the game You have decent damage from the start. You dont need titanite chunks or slabs. You can buff it with resins at low levels and at high levels you can buff it with spells... you know darkmoon if you´re a faith build, Crystal magic weapon if you´re an inteligence build... well thankfully those buffs aren´t TOO POWERFULL RIGHT GUYS?
You can get the dodge ring without killing the other npc (who latter becomes a merchant) kick the ninja off the nearby cliff, the other npc will be non the wiser, quit, reload, the ring will be on the floor, then warp away and go to tje pardoner on the cathedral and request absolution, then rejoin the covenant and go to blightown, the npc will be tjere selling its wares.
As far as I know, Shiva WILL be hostile to you the moment his bodyguard dies, no matter how. Players have even reported luring trees or cragspiders in blighttown to kill him instead (not even kicking him off a ledge) and no matter what it still breaks the covenant and makes Shiva hostile. New players be warned, your mileage may vary.

It depends on what build you're going for. Like for example I doing a witch build so bellowing dragoncrest ring 💍 with ring of fog when playing offline but switch it with Ring of steel protection if playing online and someone invade me so I'm not so squishy with low defence. Or use spell stone plate ring for magic defence if another mage invade. Rusted iron ring when in blight town with poison bite ring. It's all depends on what happening. If I know I'm dying ring of sacrifice. I'm cosplaying as witch Beatrice.

Kaspa I noticed that even with DSFix, Dark Souls still didn't run as smooth as my PC is capable of running. The remaster is a completely new engine, so in addition to proper 60FPS, it's not glitching around as the original did. The ONE thing that I will admit PTDE has over the remaster is the watchdogs mod.
Honestly, the only advantage of PTDE is mods, as Sixteen mentioned. Aside from that, the remaster is way more stable and better overall as a game. The fact that the online has been revitalized as well, is more than enough reason for me.

The constant backstab fishing and the chain backstabs are *utterly* disgusting! :D Seriously you don't even need decent tactics/skill for PvP, just learn how to abuse netcode and backstabs and you're good to go. And if you don't want to do that, nearly every other player will do it to you...
I killed Havel through the door just for his souls, I later realized I missed an amazing ring. I now have Havel’s armor and can only use the chest plate and boots without fat rolling :(
I use Steel Protection and Hornet, the only 2 rings that matter when you're wearing no armor and insist on being a dragon Also, a really easy way to kill havel is to start with the master key and immediately go to the everlasting dragon and get the head stone. If you're a scrub it might be intimidating but it's really not that hard to just roll past everything. The hardest part of the journey is not slipping off of the wonky geometry in the great hollow.
S-Tier. It's a term mostly from fighting games, where it's common practice in the communities to rank the various characters into categories or tiers based on their capabilities in combat. At first they were usually lettered alphabetically from A to D (or sometimes E) starting from A being the best, B being slightly worse but still considered viable, C being not recommended or only good for very particular or situational strategies, and D being the characters that are so poor that they are considered completely unplayable in a competitive sense. Somewhere along the line, the S (I can only imagine means Super or Special) ranking was added as a tier above all the rest, to denote the few characters in a game that are considered so powerful that you'd be crazy not to play them. These are usually the characters referred to as broken or overpowered.

Iron flesh is usually their replacement of armor, while YOU decided to do a turtle/greatweapon/pyromancer cheese. Artorias gives decent challenge if you dont try to cheese him like you did.
I was using smough's armor set and hammer and even with that. It took me around 7-8 tries to take him down.

It is good, but no so good as you have only two slots. If you don't need any equip load boost so to have two slots free, you don't really need chloranthy ring that much either.
grass crest does its job well anyways. sure its only 95% damage reduction, but if your 2 handing or just spot blocking the chip damage is well worth the stamina regen

I have played dark souls 3 and bloodborne. Bloodborne is still one of my favorite games of all time, but after trying out dark souls remastered i dont know, there is sort of love that the devs put into this game that i just didnt see in the other ones. Like they werent trying to make a hugely successful game, but rather an ode to the old punishing games and homages to kings field. I've just never been so invested in a game before. When I first played Dark Souls the Ring of Favor and Protection was a Godsend, but these days the fact that removing it breaks it makes it worthless to me. Those two ring slots work better when you combine two rings that work well together in certain situations. That ring limits the player from using good ring combinations, if you don't want to break it, so I wouldn't recommend it at all.

If you are tinking of using favor and protection wait tell after you fully explore blight town because surviving in there without the rusted iron ring and poison bite is really anoying. Especially since restince is not worth getting any posion resistence is crucial for that area.

Being limited to only 2 ring slots was incredibly frustrating for me; why put like 30+ different rings in the game when so many are wasted simply because you don't have other slots for them?
The "Ring of Favor and Protection" is just so useful and can't be removed without breaking, so essentially I was left with only one ring slot, and in certain parts of the game, you're going to have to use that second slot for stuff like "Rusted Iron Ring" (to move in swamps/water etc) or "Charred Orange Ring" (to move in fire/lava sections).
Just felt very limiting to have all those other rings, but no spots for them.
I would love some builds for dark souls. Since most builds aren't accounting for nerfs and are hard to find.

Aside from the obvious key rings like the Favor & Protection, Wolf, Cloronthy, both Covetus, Havel's, Dark Wood Grain, Rusted Iron, etc etc. The ring I found surprisingly most useful is the Slumbering Dragon Crest ring! Especially vs Titanite Demons. Btw, you can cheese Havel with fall damage. Just lure him up the stairs, and right before he attacks you roll off. Repeat 3-4 times & he's finished!👍
The Calamity Ring is like a specific clickbait when you wanna personal target players. I can't even get mad at it!
Hornet ring is located in darkroot garden. Go to the boss room and its behind the giant grave.

The Cloranthy Ring. I freaking love that Ring.
Just use Grass Crest shield and eat a green blossom. Same effect and saves you a very important ring slot that could be Havel's, Wolf, or Hornet ring instead.
Andrew Craven That is very true. Grass crest however takes equip burden however and is no more than an okay to decent shield aside from the stamina effect.
And I don't want to keep eating consumables all the time.
GCS takes up no more equip load than any other medium shield, so that's a moot point unless your shield of choice is a parrying dagger or small leather shield. And even without the use of green blossoms, the difference between Cloranthy ring and GCS is hard to notice. If you really need that extra 12.5% without eating green blossoms, you could wear mask of the child.
The problem isn't that Cloranthy ring is bad, it's that you give up a lot by not having one of the other, more impactful rings in its place. The other rings enable tactical options that are unavailable to you without them. Wolf ring allows you to poise through hits, opening up options like poise backstab and greatly reduces your chances of getting stunlocked and dying to R1 spam. Havel's enables you to wear significantly heavier armor and still fast roll, granting you much better protections (and even poise) that you wouldn't have otherwise. DWGR allows you to I-frame through hits significantly easier and opens up more opportunities for roll backstabs.
By comparison, All Cloranthy ring does is take something your character already does naturally and lets them do it a bit faster. Yes, you could potentially use your superior stamina regen to punish someone hiding behind their shield with repeated strikes followed up by more repeated strikes before their stamina bar fills, but any half-decent player won't fall into that very easily avoidable situation.

@ThePesmergia I'm well aware of how it all works. But are you suggesting you play with no shield at all? Because GCS weighs no more than any other medium shield, and your only other option would be a light shield, of which the only one that's even kind of good would maybe be the Target Shield. My point is if you are basically forced to reserve those 3 units of weight for a shield, you may as well have it be the one that gives you stamina regen. It's better than using up a ring slot for it.
As for green blossom + mask of child being good enough, I agree. That was kind of my point (in fact, I even mentioned that above). All 3 of the other stamina regen options are fine on their own and can be mix & matched to your liking, and all occupy less important slots than choranthy ring.

For legit new players:
Take the master key as your gift. your class doesn't matter that much but i reccomend you pick the pyromancer, as you get your pyro glove and powerful spells early in the game. after you leave the asylum, level up, go to new londo, get the firekeeper soul and suicide. after that, go to the graveyard, and try to get all the souls and the zwei, then go to new londo again, but instead of heading straight forward, turn to the right, use the master key to open a shortcut, and cross the bridge to the undead dragon, now this is important: DO NOT GET HIS RIGHT HAND ITEMS FIRST, take the left soul and if you want you can get a pretty good shield for early game areas and a sword that you probably cannot handle.

Now level up until you can use the straight sword or the zwei, just preference. now, go to the undead burg, loot everything you can and buy about 60-70 arrows and a bow from the merchant.
after the boss you will find a bridge, open the shortcut to the bonfire, and go under the bridge and shoot at the dragon's tail

NEVER PICK MASTER KEY IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOURR DOING
Srsly at least play through it once the intended way, or youre going to get lost super hard. The keys are laid out in a way where they lead you through the game on the proper path, which means a proper difficulty curve.
For new players, Always level up resistance first.
Warren Graham I picked the master key and ended up beating the hydra, moonlight butterfly, and Sif before even going through the undead burg basement. The fucked up curve helped me improve a little faster as a player and I was a little OP for the Capra demon and the depths, but it was pretty difficult before I leveled enough for the Black Knight Sword
Steve Marston ditto, my bks +4 cutting bosses like crazy. I also got bkgs and bkh as early drops but could only manage bks in low levels.
I honestly wouldn't recommend a new player do any of the above things. Maybe get the drake sword, but even that is a crutch that quickly becomes a liability if you're not prepared to switch to a better weapon by the time you're at Quelaag. My recommendation for new players is to replace whatever shield they got from their starting class with the Heater shield as soon as they come across the merchant, and grab the claymore at the hellkite bridge.
The serpent rings are what I have equipped most of the time, more souls and more items.

I’d like to see something on upgrading weapons and gear it’s way different going 1-10 is easy enough but the types like divine and so many different materials I don’t know what I’m doing.

Raw is for early game
Fire is good for early game too but you cant buff it
Lightning same thing just different elemental damage
Crystal gives you high damage but you cant repair the weapon
Chaos gives you more fire damage and also if you have 10 humanity (in the upper left corner) you also get more damage
Enchanted is strange I think it gives you better scaling in Intelligence maybe?
Magic is for... well... magic builds

Blue chunks for +10 magic/ enchanted weapon
Red chunks for +10 fire/chaos weapon
White chunks for +10 divine/occult weapon
Regular chunks for lighning, crystal, +15 weapon
Green titanite shards are for bellow +5 magic, fire, divine infusions
You always need 9 shards
Then 9 large (green) titanite shards
Then 7 (blue, red, white) titanite chunks and a (blue, red, white) slab
Fire and Lightning infusions are useful even in late game. The raw damage it gives off is on par with other scaling weapons. It's nice for a character that isn't going to focus to much on damage stats but instead go for extreme vit and end for example.
Chaos has lower damage then fire normaly, but the more humanity you have (max of 10) the higher the damage gets, until it outclasses fire.
Magic weapons have added int scaling and magic damage.
Enchanted is similar, but the base magic damage added is smaller then the magic one. However, the int scaling is higher, so for high int builds, enchanted definetely outclasses magic. Magic is better for int/str or int/dex builds.
Same for divine and occult. Divine adds faith scaling and magic damage to the weapon, along with the aux. effect which grants extra damage to undead and the capability of definetely killing them without having to kill a necromancer first.. Occult adds a base magic damage that is smaller then divine but a higher faith scaling, which on a pure faith build, definetely outclasses the divine for damage. It's auxiliary effect also grants you extra damage against Gods and their kin (silver knights, black knights, God bosses for example).
So, similar to enchanted/magic, divne is better for fth/str or fth/dex hybrid builds, while occult will definetely be better for pure faith.
The rest of the upgrade paths are pretty simple.

Now that I think about it raw is the most broken infusion in the game

You dont need titanite chunks or slabs.
You can buff it with resins at low levels and at high levels you can buff it with spells... you know darkmoon if you´re a faith build, Crystal magic weapon if you´re an inteligence build... well thankfully those buffs aren´t TOO POWERFULL RIGHT GUYS?

You can get the dodge ring without killing the other npc (who latter becomes a merchant) kick the ninja off the nearby cliff, the other npc will be non the wiser, quit, reload, the ring will be on the floor, then warp away and go to tje pardoner on the cathedral and request absolution, then rejoin the covenant and go to blightown, the npc will be tjere selling its wares.
As far as I know, Shiva WILL be hostile to you the moment his bodyguard dies, no matter how. Players have even reported luring trees or cragspiders in blighttown to kill him instead (not even kicking him off a ledge) and no matter what it still breaks the covenant and makes Shiva hostile. New players be warned, your mileage may vary.

Like for example I doing a witch build so bellowing dragoncrest ring 💍 with ring of fog when playing offline but switch it with Ring of steel protection if playing online and someone invade me so I'm not so squishy with low defence. Or use spell stone plate ring for magic defence if another mage invade. Rusted iron ring when in blight town with poison bite ring. It's all depends on what happening. If I know I'm dying ring of sacrifice. I'm cosplaying as witch Beatrice.

2:10 you don’t need to use the boulders. The wall that gets broken to free Big Hat Logan can easily be broken by the giant lizard/snake guy leaning against the wall asleep. Just aggro him into his attack and he knocks the wall down

Kaspa I noticed that even with DSFix, Dark Souls still didn't run as smooth as my PC is capable of running. The remaster is a completely new engine, so in addition to proper 60FPS, it's not glitching around as the original did. The ONE thing that I will admit PTDE has over the remaster is the watchdogs mod.
Honestly, the only advantage of PTDE is mods, as Sixteen mentioned. Aside from that, the remaster is way more stable and better overall as a game. The fact that the online has been revitalized as well, is more than enough reason for me.

I use Steel Protection and Hornet, the only 2 rings that matter when you're wearing no armor and insist on being a dragon
Also, a really easy way to kill havel is to start with the master key and immediately go to the everlasting dragon and get the head stone. If you're a scrub it might be intimidating but it's really not that hard to just roll past everything. The hardest part of the journey is not slipping off of the wonky geometry in the great hollow.

S-Tier. It's a term mostly from fighting games, where it's common practice in the communities to rank the various characters into categories or tiers based on their capabilities in combat. At first they were usually lettered alphabetically from A to D (or sometimes E) starting from A being the best, B being slightly worse but still considered viable, C being not recommended or only good for very particular or situational strategies, and D being the characters that are so poor that they are considered completely unplayable in a competitive sense.
Somewhere along the line, the S (I can only imagine means Super or Special) ranking was added as a tier above all the rest, to denote the few characters in a game that are considered so powerful that you'd be crazy not to play them. These are usually the characters referred to as broken or overpowered.
