I hope Arcade1up releases Robotron 2084, Smash TV and Total Carnage. I have 3 ALU's and all have BitLCD's and I have put all three games on at the same time. I can promise you this, if they release Robotron it wont be as good as ALU with BitLCD. Thank God you brought up what I say all the time, what the F is Nostalgia? I say its the actual games, arcade1up fans say its the cabinet and looks? I think BitLCD pretty much shuts up the Nostalgia, it looks better than any Arcade1up Marquee, including Szabooze replacements. And lets not talk about the NOT arcade accurate Fast N Furious lol. And for the record my ALU's don't move around when I play any of those three games and I am 6'5" 230lbs, the deck is rock solid.

Thanks so much for the reply Carl and your insight playing these games on the ALU. An Arcade1up version of Robotron will not bring nostalgia once you start playing. It may look like a smaller version of the real thing but that's where it will end imho

great statement carl... most 1up fans admit its about the looks first and gameplay second. I say once you see the ALU bitLCD and play robotron there is no way you will want an arcade1up version. When is the last time anyone played smash TV? It gets boring quite fast... same repetitive wave after wave.. I turned it off on the jungle level

@kevgret I'm glad you brought that up Kev... Smash tv does get boring quick. I don't know why but it just does compared to Robotron

Having a great time relaxing and fishing, btw the lake is soo much larger than what I showed in the video. Lmk your thoughts on A1up releasing Robotron and will a 3/4 scale version give you the nostalgia you crave?

Great video. As someone doing Walk and Sock content I loved this video. It is so much more interesting than sitting in a room full of home arcades with a fancy camera.

Every time I was hoping that ANY 1up was going to give me nostalgia, I was always let down. Nostalgia on a 1up wears off faster than any cab whether multicab or anything. And why would we want Shelion to do a review after that Fast and Furious Debacle review she did for John D. How about Pdubs or 19k to do a true review on this .

I absolutely thoroughly loved and enjoyed this video. I wish you would make more random videos like this that give me a window into your life and thoughts. You have but not to this degree. It all looks so relaxing and joyful. In some weird way, it had me thinking of what’s most important to me in life. It’s actually pushing me to go outside and enjoy the weather. Thanks Pat

Thanks Mikey, I appreciate that. I love being outside especially this time of year and normally stop making content in the summer months but if I can do both it's always a plus. Being down here away from work and women at home plus having my dog with me is the absolute best. I get depressed every time I leave 😔

If you play this game with the internation of getting good your going to play aggressive and move the cabinet but an A1up will not only move but wobble... that's not nostalgia

This was a great and different video. I really like this topic of debate that you bring up. Playing emulated games on Evercade gives me nostalgia and fun times. I don't feel that I would need to play the games on the OG cart. Since it's a console, it works for me. I played Robotron on my dad's first Gen IBM with a keyboard. I was cool because you moved with the WASDE keys with your left hand. With your right hand used the arrow keys in the direction to shoot. It wasn't until much later that I played it in the arcade.

I wanted to do something different and Mike's reply to my comment just didn't set well with me. It wasn't meant to be mean spirited towards Mike, just a debate on whether playing a game on a 1up can give you the nostalgia you can also get on a multicade. Hopefully I got the point across. Appreciate the comment as always 🙏

Same reason that I can stream starwars(or whatever your favorite movie), but still want to have the DVD copy on the shelf. I can watch starwars many ways, but having a real version in my collection is still a must. A lot of it is emotional. And that is ok. Having a physical version has more attachement to us many times. Though it does need to be made right. Rightshape, some weight good controls. Though I don't have very high hopes for 1up doing it right.

    Show-Me Retro,
More great thoughts on Robotron in the home arcade space. Yeah, I find nostalgia can vary wildly from person to person. One might see a blank generic cabinet with no side art and feel instant nostalgia, because the simple shape reminds them of their days in a classic arcade, others may be on the other end of the spectrum where every cabinet in a room needs to faithfully recreate a specific decade of arcade gaming, with no cabs from different decades, or random multicades with various artwork showcasing multiple games in that space. I find myself, somewhere in the middle, but anywhere on that line I find is acceptable if it makes sense to that individual.
But I do lean towards your thoughts when it comes to what's most important to me, and that's the gameplay experience. When I bought my first Arcade1up, sure, I was be-dazzled by the recreation of arcade artwork that I remembered from my youth, but when I got down to play the game that was my main purpose for purchasing it, Tempest, and it had a crappy radio dial instead of a true spinner, which it needed to play the game properly, if not at least, decently, the whole illusion fell apart. I didn't care how the cabinet looked at that point, and it actually angered me each time I saw the machine.
As for Robotron, I have an amazing 3/4 scale size machine with true HAPP sticks to play it in all it's glory, and as rough as one wants without rocking the machine, though I've never noticed myself wrenching a machine to play any game (unless it got me angry, which doesn't happen very much now that I'm older). I skinned the machine as the game Berzerk, and it doesn't have a riser, so one has to play it sitting down, but it's never taken away from my nostalgia of playing Robotron (mainly, because if feels like a commercial arcade machine). But again, that's just me. And the cool thing about my Berzerk cabinet, which is a machine made by a company called Rec Room Masters, using much thicker materials than an Arcade1up, and so low of center of gravity, that no one is picking that thing off the ground by playing it sitting down. But I do find it VERY suspect that someone claims they saw someone lift a commercial Robotron cabinet of the ground by just playing it. I don't believe it unless they can provide some sort of evidence to that fact, video please. People say a lot of things to get attention (though I'm not claiming the person isn't telling the truth, it just sounds fishy [No pun intended to the video topic])
    Again, great discussion!
    vgv

      @show-me-retro  Рік тому +1

I can see getting nostalgia looking at a cabinet but if it played terrible and wobbled around the nostalgia would be lost. Maybe Mike wants one to look at and one to play but again, I see no sense in that. Everyone gets nostalgia in different ways including myself with my recent Colecovision purchase but that was inexpensive and nothing beats original hardware in the original packaging. If you can't have the original Robotron then I say play it on the best dual stick cabinet you can, also the heaviest and to me that would never be an A1up. Appreciate the comment as always vgv.

At the same time, you're giving your opinion based on your negative experiences with Arcade 1Up as a company. And while your opinion is yours, MikeBs opinion is his. You could look at like this: I could say to you that playing a less physically intensive game like Donkey Kong feels the exact same to me to play, or even better on emulation vs the real thing, but you may feel a lot differently. You may argue the great sound, artwork, and feel of a real DK cabinet makes the original cabinet experience of that game far better than anything emulated. Its really just perspective. Mike's are different than yours. And some people still enjoy Arcade 1Up. Some people hate it. But if they really suck that bad, their business model wont last much longer.

Mike just did a video praising the Bitlcd from Atgames for it's nostalgia but claimed in a reply it didn't really help give him nostalgia playing Robotron. Seems a little contradictory to me. Just saying

Love my Rampage 1up Arcade. I do wish they would make a few to actual 1:1 scale.
