Wish sublimation ink producers would/could develop a reliable & safe way to sublimate on to cotton so we crafters would have beautiful results. Thank you Ms Becky & Design Bundles.
Hey Joy! The have, it's called Chromoblast. It allows sublimation on cotton, I'll link a video for you here from Crystal Ann. Hope this helps! ---Becky ua-cam.com/video/x1jWej-7rlQ/v-deo.html
Ty, great info. I do have a shirt that's had this hack done on before I've had it over a year it's been washed in the washer for over a year and has had no discoloration. Still very vibrant and I love it❤
Thanks for sharing this method! Quick question, how long can you keep the spray? I only used a small amount but made a cup worth of the mix. Thank you!
The colors are great! I just seen another video done with the same product. Only they did do two washed and it held up. I have used poly alot for woodworking. I'm not a glove wearer. I have not had any reaction to it in my skin. This does Not mean someone else might. But this might be good in canvas bags for shopping, purses and other non wearable items if you're not keen on using on your clothes. Q
Interesting Experiment. I’m wondering also if people do wash those in the washing machine wouldn’t the poly acrylic tend to ruin your washer or the dryer I would be really afraid to use lacquer in my washer or dryer. Just something else to consider really interesting videos I love following your channel thanks for sharing
@DB I appreciate your experiments.. I began to use Polycrylic on cotton. I had really good success. I have slacked off, but after your experiment I am ready to DIG in again. I have a pro heat press and really want to give my Cricut Press a break.
Becky, do you have a comfy shirt you recommend for sublimation? I typically hate 100% polyester- the humidity in Florida makes it feel like I am wearing a plastic bag!
Hey Melanie! Yes, I typically like Jerzees 21M, they sublimate beautifully and don't feel quite as silky as other polyester shirts. You can also search for cotton-poly blends (65% or higher). Your prints may be a little faded, but just choose designs that look good vintage. Hope this helps! ---Becky
The polycrylic is not going to stay on any kind of fabric. It's actually a clear coat for wood and it gets hard when it dries. It's only going to be good for decorative items that you don't wash. Even topcoating with another coat of polycrylic isn't going to help because with each wash you'll be breaking down the coating.
Hey Barbara! I agree with Don, I'm not sure that a second layer would really help. This is a fun experiment and I would use it in a pinch, but it's not going to be a reliable way to sublimate fabrics. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I have not Katie, but only because I haven't had any scorching since I read about it recently. I have it in my to-do list for next time I have a scorched shirt! Thanks for sharing your tips! ---Becky
Will this do well on a poly/cotton blend to help increase the poly count in the fabric? Ive heard of Poly T, and some who sublimate onto blended poly/cotton shirts use it to bring out the colours. I wonder if this could act like that?
Hey there, I print with an Epson so I just print like I normally do. I'm not sure what settings would be best in a Sawgrass. Sorry I can't be more help! ---Becky
Thank you I just tried and it actually turned my tshirt brown actually burnt where it was sprayed. A big square, sorry didn't work for me unless I did something wrong :(
Definitely something to experiment with, I think there are a lot of variables that can lead to scorching. If you are looking to experiment more, I would use the same shirt and lower the temperature (maybe lengthen the time). Hope this helps! ---Becky
I want to put pictures on 100% cotton canvas panels and I’m hoping this will work. Since it’s a piece of art to be framed and hung on the wall, washing isn’t going to be an issue but I do wonder if you think I should paint the finished piece with a coat of the polycrylic just as a sealer?
Which brand of sublimation ink do you use in your Epson et 1500? My son helped me get a 1500 printer it is on back order though. The colors in your towel look really good. Have you been able to wash t shirts etc to test the longevity of vivid colors? I appreciate your videos.
Hey Darlene! I purchased Cosmos Ink for the ET-15000 and have been happy with the colors. I have not tested the longevity of this hack, but other information I have read shows that it starts to fade pretty fast over the first 10 or so washes, and continues to fade at a slower pace after. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hello I have a question how are you able to add a glow effect on your fonts or images on silhouette studio business edition I am not sure if we are able to do it on this software Thankyou
Hey Jennifer, there is probably a complicated way to do this, but I haven't figured it out just yet LOL. I do know you can do it in Canva, and I'm sure other more complex software. Hope this helps! ---Becky
So if I wanted to put this on a cotton shirt for myself, not sensitive skinned, would using maybe 1/4tbsp less with the same amount of water, then washing before pressing (letting it dry first) be a bad idea? Like I’ve worked with that poly acrylic before makes great water proofed for out door wood working projects and I’ve gotten it un-diluted on my clothes before takes years to wash out so I’m just curious if adding less would be a bad thing.
Becky! Please help. I see you and I have the same sublimation printer but I am not getting the best results with color. Have you found a difference in color from printing from Silhouette vs Photoshop? Some have said I need to print from other source and that photoshop prints most accurate color. ( I use Printers jack ink, a sub paper or printers jack. I am using ICM color setting pressing @400 for 60 seconds). Blacks and grays giving slight green hue. I don’t want to press longer for fear of scorching.
Hey there! Yes, you will typically get more accurate colors from Photoshop since you can use the color profiles. Silhouette Studio does not use color profiles, so you kind of get what you get. I've been lucky, but I haven't used Printers Jack Ink, so I don't have much experience with that. I do know that the green hue is supposed to mean it's under pressed, have you checked the accuracy of your heat press temperature (laser thermometer)? I think I would get some spare polyester fabric and try to experiment with longer pressing times. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Tia, I actually don't normally clean them unless I'm in desperate times, I find it more beneficial just to pick up a new mat. If it's something like fuzz or lint, then I hear you can clean with a baby wipe of dawn dish soap, let it dry and it will be sticky again. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Jackie! There are a lot of great reasons to experiment, which is what this video is. It's great for personal use, and of course each crafter is able to decide if they would like to sell or not. Hope this helps! ---Becky

@@DesignBundles thank you Becky! Definitely be watching & paying attention to her video
But with the chromoblast, the you have to use everything new. Printer, paper, ink etc. I just want something that I can use what I already have.

I think this will be perfect for the canvas tote bags I am doing. Thanks
I’m curious as to how many washers o it takes to get it to fade. I may have to experiment this weekend. Lol thanks for the video!
I can see this being great for birthday flags on burlap.
Yeah i'll use this for my flags and banners! Thanks for sharing!
Happy to help! 😊
Always love your videos Becky!!!

I've used this on a number of shirts! Works great. Doesn't harm the washer and lasts forever.
Love this! Thanks so much for letting us watch this trial method❣️

I wonder if you sprayed it again after subbing it would help preserve the color? I have used this on an apron and lots of fading after washing.

Hi Becky! I was wondering if you have washed that yet and if so how did it hold up? Thanks!
I did this, it washed almost totally out
@@cherylbee9899 If you have well water, you need to filter it or use distilled water. also, try a 3/1 ratio of water and polyurethane
Have you tried a 50/50 water hydrogen peroxide mix to get rid of scorching?

I can use only the clear ultra flat…or good to use any other Minwax polycrylic?
Hi Erica! That would work as well. - Dawn 🙂
When printing do you set your sub printer to print on cotton or polyester? Thank you

If it is going to be inside it does not need to be sealed. Also, if you do not have polyacrylic you could always use Easy Subli!

I take it you can substitute the Polycrylic for Modge Podge?
Not when it comes to sublimation, the mod podge would not do the same. - Brittany
@@DesignBundles I agree. I tried it and all I got were random burned blotches. I had more luck with a PVA glue+IPA mix.
Once polyacrylic cures it’s fine to be in contact with skin. After about 25 days of being dry it is food safe meaning you can eat off it.
That's so interesting! Thank you for sharing!

Don't shake. You put air bubbles in when you do.
Can we do on dark cotton?
No, sublimation only works on light colors. Hope this helps! ---Becky
You can if you put down white htv and the sub on top of that.
So are you saying we should not use it, I’m confused
So why don’t you wash that one a few times and post updates
