If you are a savvy experienced Vancouver driver you stay home when stuff like this happens. Winter tires don't do much when everyone else out there doesn't have them. I have a newer 4x4 with very good tires and still refuse to go out in weather like this because it is simply not worth it.
Yep.
"4x4 with very good tires" is not enough in ice and snow - they must specifically be *winter tires* either the soft compound studless tires or the studded tires. That's why many 4x4 drivers get into so much trouble with all season and off-road tires.
Install winter tires in advance to avoid any accident as other Canadian provinces do.
I got truck 4×4,winter tires and drive back to home from Van to Surrey in 9 hours
@@adamklecz1619 Everyone needs to have snow tires. People with all season tires probably slowed you down.
You guy all amateurs thats the problem if your not prepared come to Winnipeg
@@victormagtataho6973 I spent two winters in Saskatoon and born in Poland but never saw something like that in my life!
I worked that day and it wasn't a blizzard. It might have been 4 inches of snow at most. The drive home wasn't hard for me, even though the roads were not plowed and were icy from the snow being packed down. I have snow tires and I drove at a reasonable speed.
No snow plows, improper tires, no driving skills, there was no blizzard, and there was a snowfall warning issued. Transit buses no snow tires, and Transit CEOs raking in the cash. Put some money to your bus fleet, instead of your condo in Europe
The snowflakes Vancouver is used to are different than what happens during snowfalls.
I lived in an apartment on 16th Ave, and Dunbar for a couple of years. One January there was a big snow storm. Looking outside my window I watched UBC's brain trust slip-sliding down 16th and careening into cars stopped at the Dunbar light. This went on all afternoon. The traffic would clear when the light turned green, and another crash cycle ensued when the light turned red. Similar crashes at the bottom of the hill on the next block.
Blizzard? HAHAHA. We had 5 CM of snow. The problem was hardly anyone had snow tires.
Not much snow really (compared to real winter conditions elsewhere in Canada). I drove home without problem. It was a little slick but all good if you slow down a bit with the proper tires fitted.
True that the condition is not ideal. But the problem can be summed up easily with below…
1. No snow plow were out there as far as I can see
2. People never learned how to drive in snow/icy conditions as there aren’t many days with enough snow for them to practice. And many don’t slow down for the conditions.
3. People usually don’t get winter tires in Vancouver (some with summer tire year-round)
4. Too much confidence on driving skills and too much reliance on vehicle electronics
Agreed 👍
Why there's no snow plow ??
@@andis9076 That's problem with the municipal government. I donno why (probably budget related) but local tax payers expect better than that for sure.
@@andis9076 Where is your snow tires?
@@andis9076 Do not blame snow plows.
It is called "winter" - nothing "extreme" here - just winter.
It wasn’t a blizzard. 10cm fell in the commute and the commute is so slow that eventually people got stuck where they were.
It wasn’t that bad … just lots of unprepared people all together at once 😂
Gosh if only there was a way to make the planet warmer.
they say this stuff to get a vote and money that's it
QUE????????????????Estamos morrendo de calor no Brasil,amo Vancouver,linda
Drive more and drive old cars, burn everything like grass, trees, wood, plastic, all kind of paper, clothes, neighbors. Smoke as much as you can. You get the idea 💡
People in Vancouver have no idea how to drive in the snow. They put the pedal to the metal and get nowhere. I used to live there, so I know. But I learned how to drive in the snow before moving to Vancouver because I am from Eastern Canada. You just press the gas pedal a little bit and the tire can grip the snow easier. Spinning the tires just makes ice under them. I now am in Toronto, and we have our share of snowstorms, so I use winter tires.
Hi
I'm new subscribers yahoo!!! Watching from Switzerland 🇨🇭
6” of snow good lord help us just a bunch of people out without proper tires
The snow on their roads looks pretty lite. I don't know why they could drive on those road surfaces. 4 Wheel Drive with snow tires is the way to go.
Where are the snow plowers?
Exactly, I'm wondering same thing.
@@andis9076 prob not ready, not hookup at all. That’s sucks for them tho. Too bad
In Vancouver, we stay home from work, and go play outside on "snow days".
Carry chains & know how to install them. Chains are cheaper & offer more traction than snow tires. If you drive the highways regularly then get dedicated snow tires for every wheel.
Chains would have done nothing in this, probable would have made it worse, they are not driving on ice or packed snow, it's a couple of inches of wet snow that melts a few hours later, that's what happens every year in Vancouver if we even get snow
@@mikenelson1614 You need to buy some chains & learn how to install them properly. The issue in Vancouver is the immediate gridlock from unprepared drivers at the bridge choke points. The same situation occurred in 2008 & I used chains for two weeks straight to deliver freight. Chains offer more traction on any kind of snow, ice, or slush.
@@misterfunnybones I've used them at work, I never needed them on my car in the Vancouver area. It would be interesting to see how many accidents and people getting stuck were the result of them not using the proper tires.
Varför har ni inte vinter däck
Whats the difference between all season tires and 4 seasons tires?
It doesn't matter . unless it has a mountian peak symbol on it , it's useless in snow.
Why they dont have ring chains?
Wow a regular winter in Canada what’s the problem? Stupidity? This is normal
To people who live in Winnipeg, this is just a normal snowing day.
I have a civic and I had no issues.. even went up burnaby mountain
Me too up the Burnaby mountain , down to Hasting , stay away from Lougheed
At this point, sell yer car and get a submarine lol
I don't understand, this is Canada. But what about winter tires. We are in Moscow already in early November, we are blowing cars for winter tires. Almost everyone in Russia has two sets of tires, winter and summer. I don't know, Canadians are probably very economical.
Everyone in Canada has 2 sets as well except for that very bottom southern west corner which is Vancouver.
Thats the reason why I go to my home country during winter and come back during summer, I can not endure extreme cold.
Y’all should be ashamed to call yourselves Canadians. 4 inches of snow😞 In Atlantic Canada we drive in 30 centimetres of snow often and totally deal with it.
Hi
"WINTER TIRES" !! Dec 1st every year , it should be a law everywhere.
I'd say mid Oct it can snow during those times
Yay let’s go out driving in a winter storm!! Then wonder why we parked in a ditch stuck upside down.
blizzard? who makes these things up??
I went to work and home that night no problems 😂😂
Ah yes, normal weather for Canada!
Stay strong Vancouver. I know you were just inundated with leaves from autumn.
